3rd Brake Light disabled (rear deck)
i'd seen this topic posted several times before, but never saw this solution posted.
i did not care to remove the whole assembly as some people inquired, but this seemed like the easiest way to take care of turning the brake light on if you have the OEM spoiler.
there are wires going to the brake light in the rear deck, and they plug into a blue connector. just simply disconnect the blue connector and tuck the loose end coming from the light in somewhere and voila. the led's still light up on the spoiler, and now i don't see the brake light reflected off my trunk lid and spoiler.:)

Brake Light
Why not just pop the cover off the light in the car and pull the lightbulb out. It lifts straight up (bayonet type bulb). Thats what I did. Keep the bulb in the glove box incase I ever need it again.

Just unplug and remove...
then there is a vendor in this club that sells a plastic piece that covers the empty space that is left behind. The vendor name is CCB.

you don't even need to do that. Just open the trunk, and unplug it. takes 2 seconds.
only do this if you have the wing, otherwise it's illegal and VERY dangerous.

CCB Filler Piece
I am also interested in removing my 3rd brake light (yes I have a wing with one), and I am really interested in this piece. Does anyone have a picture of this piece installed? It is a different color than the back shelf, but my exterior is black, so I think it would match good.
Thanks, .. Paul

Sevenhead: Yes, it's ABS
Over the last 5 months I sold about 8 of these. Now, with the help of this thread I went through my inventory of 12 pieces in an afternoon and evening.
Those who have not received a confirmation will have to wait for the next shipment, sometime by the end of next week. Sorry guys, and thank you very much for the orders.

OMG. I can finally get rid of my crappy black fabric that I'm using to cover that hole. Every time I close the trunk...the air pressure knocks it out and I have to replace it!
God that was so annoying! Bump for a smart vendor filling a niche!

I got my "thingy" from CCB. Took about a DAY to arrive after I paypaled him. Well worth it!
Took all of 5 minutes to remove old light and drop the piece of plastic in. Looks nice and now I want have a glare off my spoiler. But I will have to retint my back window...
THANKS!!!

yeah..great!, that "thingy" is super sweet, but i cant share the love here, i own a GC8... anyone know if it works with older style imprezas?
i mean..its bad enough that everyone can see the brightass brakelight in the wing, but then when they get close enough, they see the outline of hte 3rd brake light housing in therear window.. not to mention the fact that i can see it from in the car in the mirror.. its not too appealing to me, but neither is a huge hole.
alot of GC8 owners had wingless cars, then when we add one, what are we supposed to do, suffer the same problem as WRX owners did :lol (no offense, i'd KILL for a WRX)
lemme know if you can think up anything for a GC8 and i will buy!

The only solution I see is get the rear deck trim from a crashed RS or a new one from the dealer. 98-99 RS didn't have the baby seat anchors so that would fit best.

damn aol, i had a question, but damn aol died on me. anyways, my question was how do i remove the clip. i tried taking out the fourth brake light a few days ago, but i couldnt get past the clip. do i pull the light towards me, pull up, left, right, or push it, or get the clip off?
thanks.

thanks.

woohoo!!!! just got mine last night. put it in today. it's awesome. thanks cc-b.
scoobyboy - i think i know what you're talking about. hopefully by now you've figured it out, but if not, go into the trunk and take the two bolts out of the bottom. then there is the "clip" towards the "front" of the brake light (front meaning towards the front of the car). i just used a needle nose pliers to squeeze the clip and push up and the whole thing was a breeze.
hope that helps. again, thanks CC-B!!!!
