Subaru really needs to release a widebody Impreza for this generation Impreza before it changes. New-Age 22B.

So here is the question then... whre's the freaking intercooler since they got rid of the central vent that goes over the intercooler?
WRXedUSA 12-12-2006 09:58 PM

Thank you for the pics.

I'm curious on thier test results.

No roof vane on this '06?

since when has the SWRT been using a 4 lug setup?
Crashsector 12-12-2006 10:05 PM

Any word of they are allowed to use different diffs this year?

Myself and Unabomber were at Prodrive a little over a year ago and they mentioned that they were going to a 4 lug pattern. When we asked why they said it was to save weight.

That's kind of what I was thinking but doesnt that increase the likelihood of a vacuum leak on a gravel rally and also increase the length of IC piping? I guess we'll just have to wait till they pop the hood to see exactly what they did with everything. Im sure it makes sense whatever they did or they wouldnt have changed it from something that seemed to be a very good layout.

They've actually been on a four-lug setup since 2005.

Since BFG got bought out by Michelin they for all practical purposes are running Michelin tires.

Hood vents! I hope they make it to the 08s!

Also that exhuast is on the right now...just like the spy shots of the impreza mules.

In the south of France. That is where SWRT's gravel test roads are.
littlefluffybunnies 12-13-2006 09:44 AM

ah ok, thanks. lol
was a bit confused as to menik's location
last press release said they'd been busy in france and spain since new zealand.

i also seem to recall them using 4 lug on tarmac and 5 lug on gravel a while back too. at least since the switch to the GD chassis.

If Im not mistaken, the WRC Impreza's have been routing the exhaust to the right for some time now.

Now if Speed would just announce that they will cover the 2007 season:(
mykrrrr 12-13-2006 11:20 PM

Cool pics. :)

These WRC cars are looking more and more like silouette (sp?) cars. I sorta like the old days of the Grp. A cars when they were almost exactly like their roadgoing counterparts. Either way, Grp. A or WRC spec...I <3 rally. :D

The exhaust has been on the right for years on the competition cars. Even the SRTUSA cars have had right-side exhausts for as long as I've been following them (not that long really, 2001 or 2002.)

Zefy 12-14-2006 12:38 AM

sweet pics!

i'm pretty curious as to how the BFG's will run... at the end of the season they didn't seem to complain to much about the tires...

and just for interest sake... the bolt pattern is 4x136mm with a 98mm centre bore...

(looked into it since the old subies were 4x140... close... but not quite... and bbs wouldn't even sell them to anybody except the SWRT... darn...)

that hood looks sweet! wondering about the intercooler too though...

and wait... is that the diff skid plate they are dropping down there? that thing is HUGE!
STiShawn 12-14-2006 09:11 AM

Zefy, thanks for the pcd info, always wondered about that...

and yeah that looks to be the diff skid plate

From the looks of the hub on Solberg's 2006 Car, it appears that the bolt pattern can actually be changed to accommodate different wheels...

doesn't really look like it has different diameters though... probably a weight saving thing...

i've had a look at the gravel, tarmac, and snow wheels... they all share the same bolt pattern...

You're right about the wheels they use sharing the same bolt pattern, but are you sure that the extra holes in that hub aren't designed to provide the option of different bolt patterns?

It looks like it to me, though I could be wrong...
theicewall 12-14-2006 11:40 AM

Why did they change the exhaust moving it 10" to the left of where it was before though. It's a touch straighter outlet... but since the wrc car has custom bumpers and all that... why not make the exhaust outlet in the correct position so that it doesn't look like a hack job?
Menik 12-14-2006 11:45 AM

Because this is a TEST VEHICLE. I highly, highly doubt they plan on leaving it like that for the 2007 season.
digitalpimp 12-14-2006 01:35 PM

the intercooler would still be basically where it was before, now they are ducting the air out the sides of the bonnet (same as the new spec fords) to get the air to go around the a pillar, this reduces air speeds over the roof of the car reducing lift. it also lowers the temp of the air comming in the roof scoop (not a huge concern, but it is easily noticiable on CPD's #1 car which uses a older style wrc rad pack. it also looks way sexier than the last bonnet vent :).

i think the curve between the top corner of the bumper and the top of the fender is intresting. i would have thought they would have made the vents and on the sides of the bumper even bigger to let more from the rad pack out there, but they have all but gotten rid of it. my guess is either a. hurt brake cooling or B. was to fragile down there (a bad cut on a few corners and the ducting would be quite smashed). or maybe they are now allowed less area for inlet/outlet.

Homer Simpson can help you add "speed holes"!

As far as the photographed car goes, isn't this car an upgraded 2006 Impreza WRC? As far as I know, the 2007 model won't debut until Mexico.

My other question is will the 2007 SWRT car be the new re-designed Impreza? In Japan and the rest of the world, won't the new Impreza be a MY2007 vehicle and a MY2008 vehicle in the U.S.?

Prodrive already said the 2007 car won't look too dramatically different than the 2006 car. It's gonna be the same chassis as the 06 car. Most of the difference is be underneath the car.

The completely redesigned WRC won't be out til 2008 at the earliest, but even that's all speculation.
