V-Limited over priced? part 1

umscooby 03-24-2007 12:12 PM

V-Limited over priced?
Doesn't 500 bucks for a piece of abs plastic seem ridiculous?

I'm speaking of the V-Limited front lips for '04+ models. Then again, i purchased a fiberglass replica for $250 and it hasn't held up to chipping for ish. Makes me think i should have gone with a poly replica, but all i've seen look cheapish. I want to pony up for the real deal for my '05 and was wondering what is the best deal anyone's ever got on one of these brand new.

Preferred vendor to buy from?
Best price you've seen?
SQ3.0dotJP 03-24-2007 12:13 PM

thats y i stick to knockoffs, then ur not upset when you bust it up.lol. you can find abs plastic replicas around too. <3 ebay
dayamdave 03-24-2007 12:25 PM

A few are selling fiberglass ones, and fastwrx sells the STi badges for what..12.99 for the lips and BAM, u got urself a v-limited lip.
kennyvb 03-24-2007 12:27 PM

there's a replica polyurethane version available.
SQ3.0dotJP 03-24-2007 12:32 PM

only person that knows the difference it you, lol. its not like when you had to wear payless shoes to school instead of the new jordans. its like wearing jordans you got on ebay via china(35 bucks a pair, oh yeah i rock them). noone knows the difference and personally i dont care, either i think it looks good or i dont. and it being your car you probably dont give a **** about squirrels' opinion.lol
umscooby 03-24-2007 12:40 PM

Like i said, i already have the fiberglass replica. I've had to repaint it once, the thing chips like crazy. the poly replicas aren't painted so they wouldn't chip, but they look like crap to me, they loose the "hard edges" of the authentic V-Limited.
Honkey3k 03-24-2007 12:47 PM

overprices FTW
RBelcher00 03-24-2007 12:52 PM

Haha.

Yes, welcome to the world of good quality parts.
Overpricing is the name of the game.
You've got to keep products exclusive right?
For example, I myself have never seen anyone with a V-Limited lip in person.
Does it look AMAZING? Yes!
Do I want one? Yes!

Am I willing to pay $500 for something I KNOW I will break on a driveway or crazy southern California streets? Maybe...

Haha.

Do you live in an area where you think it might break? If so, go with the replica and slap on the STi sticker.
It will still look amazing!

And when you turn the car into a show/race car, then put the real deal on it.
Ha.

Good luck.
infinite012 03-24-2007 01:35 PM

try painting your lip with plasti-dip. it seems to be able to hold up to a lot of abuse.

get with the program
This has got to be the most-requested product we've ever had. Previously we resisted because it can cost as much as $5000 just to make a mold for a polyurethane spoiler. But our customers kept insisting, and we resolved to do it.

And now, at long last, they're here.

I just ordered mine yesterday.

If you get lucky you can get used Real V-limited for 200-250$ range. :)
06STIGO13 03-29-2007 04:44 PM

Yes, it is overpriced... and oh yeah... I can notice a difference!

Just kidding, about seeing the difference! ;)
jnorth85 03-29-2007 05:15 PM

i had a replica and i could see the differance it drove me nuts!!!
so i sold it now id like to get another but havent found the right "deal" yet.
lokies 03-29-2007 06:16 PM

you get what you pay for.....

if you you're a nut and craze for perfection pay the money and get the real deal...
I have a poly and its beautiful...
EnterTheDragon 03-29-2007 10:13 PM

I couldnt pay $500 for a piece of hollow plastic, especially since all the ones I've seen in person have always been cracked. I don't see a reason not to get a poly one.
SteelGrayScooby 03-29-2007 11:18 PM

The 06 V-limited is absolutely a must on every 06 and 07.

I cringe everytime I see an un-lipped 06.

I bought mine from Fastwrx along with the subaru nut things.
Install was ridiculously easy....a few drills and then the nuts go right in. Very easy.

I have like 8 cracks on my lip, and it hasn't broken in half yet. No matter how good you are at parking....you will eventually pull up THAT little bit more and boom.....500$......

Buy the fake.
AspenWhite_STi 03-29-2007 11:30 PM

Switching my CF S203 Replica lip out for genuine V-Limited this weekend. I love the CF lip, but my friend (subie technichian) is hooking me with a sweet deal on new V-Limited.

I must have robbed a bank on mine. Bought a used one from another member locally. I paid 150 cash for it. Probably the cheapest ive ever seen an OEM one sell for.

But yea, 200-250 is a fair used price for an OEM v-lip.

I did that for the first time while hopped up on cough medicine. Good thing I hadn't installed the lip yet......
silverwrx666 03-30-2007 01:00 PM

I am kinda thinking about the ravspec carbon fiber one and the mach V poly one
imprezaowner27 03-30-2007 01:11 PM

Im dieing to get a Lip....even the 200$ for the replica is a tad much for a black piece of plastic under the car that 90% of people will miss anyway
silverwrx666 03-30-2007 02:04 PM

200 isn't that bad to me.

but I paid 31 grand for my car though

just another drop in the bucket

I've owned both. I sold the Ravspec as soon as I opened the box. Never even installed it (btw, it's just a small portion of cosmetic CF covering the top of the lip. The lip is actually made of fiberglass.

Poly one is far superior.
momolicious 04-03-2007 01:38 AM

http://www.fastwrx.com/fivstfrlip.html

this is the poly your saying is better? its the exact same shape size strength and weight as the original right
ABS for FTW!
keep practicing, start by saying that out loud
Big-E 04-03-2007 01:46 PM

I took the same approach that an original is around $500, is located under the front bumper, is at the lowest point and ahead of the car and will be prone to objects and ingress/egress issues (hopefully not).

The replica is urethane, was about half price and I'm not going to worry about it.

Get one, paint it if you like and enjoy it. If you can find one for less, go for it. Otherwise, if you have a concern about a replica, get an original or don't get one at all.
ghibli99 04-03-2007 02:28 PM

I've purchased 2 V-Limiteds, one for an '05 and one for an '06. I don't remember what I paid for the first one, but it was part of a large parts order w/ Japan Parts. The second time, RSD was having a sale on them, and I got it for $479 shipped. Yeah, they're expensive, but I like the genuine article.

HIREN 04-03-2007 06:23 PM

I got mine for 399 and got the rubber piece that goes underneath it for 100ish more through a group buy. When I got the parts in I was like WTF. I couldn't believe I paid $400 for a flimsy piece of plastic that I almost bent just holding it! The rubber piece was just as overpriced, 100+ for a universal strip of rubber! I'm surprised Subaru even uses such a flimsy piece. I guess only time will tell how long it lasts. I haven't installed it yet but I'm already practicing parking away from the stops!
Vew 04-03-2007 11:24 PM

I have the Seibon poly replica. Not perfect, but considering where I live, I scrape literally 5 times a day at least, so the real deal is not worth my money. Don't think I like to cheap it out either. Everything on my car is the real deal or the best I could find.

It's held up to the numerous times I've bottomed out. However, the finish not great, and it's slightly warped at the bottom, but you can only tell if you put your ear to the ground.

momolicious 04-03-2007 11:29 PM

how much lower does the vlimited replica make your front go, i can definately see how its impossible to keep from being scraped on inclines or bumps if your car is lowered any
umscooby 04-03-2007 11:35 PM
not too much considering it takes a ton of abuse and hold up fine. ABS for FTW!
i agree, it is the superior material. my fiberglass replica is probably the worst for wear and tear. never liked the carbon fiber look. the poly is probably the next best thing to abs but i've seen both in person and the real v-limited looks better.
o2sys 04-04-2007 12:41 AM

it all depends on the replica....just got the Mach V one and looks and fits A++

some replicas can be better or par to of its original....
magoowrx 04-04-2007 12:46 AM

i have a real deal one. its worth it to me cause most peoplea re to cheap to buy one. thats what sets my car apart. besides I would rather support subaru then knock off chinese company, but thats just me.

Support Subaru? The 25k you dropped on your car wasnt enough supporting? I don't think it's a matter of being too cheap, more like too smart to pay that much for a piece of plastic.

$500 bucks gets you an Xbox that plays video games, music, movies, a snowboard, a round trip ticket to Hawaii,...or you can "support subaru" and get a $5 piece of plastic.

Being a consumer isnt about supporting anyone...I'm sure nobody at Subaru has issues paying rent or eating food because of the lack of vlimited sales. They'll get my support when they decide not to rape me for a piece of plastic.

With my H-Techs and sitting on a flat surface, I can make a fist and I can touch both the lip and the ground... Bad news if you actually saw the roads and hills we have in good ol Morgantown. So far so good though **knocks on wood**
