STI in T1
Saludos,
Do someone know the guy racing in SCCA in the Touring 1 class vs. the ZO6?

By the way congratulations on what I heard your first win of the year!

Are you going to the runoffs?

Thanks,
Miguel Alcrudo jr.

Just saw that on SCCAforums. Nice job. Only 1 second off the Z06s is pretty damn good for a first year car!

More than 1 second ahead of the Z06

Chuck Hemmingson, of World Challenge fame, is seriously campaigning an STi in T1. He was at Heartland Park just this past weekend...

bvondran 09-07-2004 11:40 AM

He is registered for the runoffs. The only Subaru in t1.

He was the one who won :)

Won what? If you're commenting on the race Sunday at HPT, Hemmingson only won because the Corvette in the lead DNF'd with a mechanical ...

- Steve Sulatycki
trhoppe 09-07-2004 12:28 PM

 I know he "won" because the lead car DNFd, but IMHO 1 sec a lap off the Z06s it still impressive..

-Tom
zzyzx 09-07-2004 12:32 PM

True, but I wish that 1 second off was behind a car that was actually working...
zoomfactor 09-07-2004 12:35 PM
only won because
Hey DNF's are still part of racing, right :D
trhoppe 09-07-2004 12:37 PM

Wow, reread the sccaforums post and I take that back.

Fastest laps were 1:34s during qualifying

What's the T1 package like on the STi? I don't have an 04 GCR.
DILLIGAF Racing 09-08-2004 12:00 AM

its not in the GCR. Its in the Fast Track from Feb. I think.

As a racer, instructor, and past car builder,.....In this day and age anyone who builds a racecar, and goes out and races it against cars like the Z06, knowing that its a 2-3 year commitment and MAYBE they'll have some success ( success being podiums which dont really matter at this level as winning is what counts) deserves alot of credit. Its easy to sit home, or sit in front of a computer and judge these people who make this effort, but I tell people this all the time,.....its a big difference between building and racing a racecar and building and running an autocross car. You will almost never ball that later up , nor have senseless act of stupidity happen to you for no reason other than someone saying,.." sorry bud I didnt see you"...or "it was a racing accident..". Not to mention the politics behind the rule changes. I talked to a couple of T1 guys running Sti's and the organizers are allowing the M3s to run coilovers, but wont allow the STi to have height adjustibility,...things like that. Dont get me wrong, not taking anything away from autocrossing, I did it for years, and its hard in its own right, but think of what its like as a driver/owner to go into something KNOWING that the Z06 package (just to name one) is sooo strong. All you have to do is drive one set up for that class to understand.

So if they ( STi guys in T-1) only win when the Z06 has DNF then so be it,.look back in racing history, alot of champions are made that way with just enough frequency.

Again, dont get me wrong,..a second a lap is ALOT,.but these are the guys that will bring alot of handling secrets to the community for the rest of us to benefit from. We have a project in the works that certainly will, and for our proposed series,..its more political than the current presidential race,..by a long shot. Thats all a part of racing, and if you like racing, you live with it.

LEt's just give the people who DO go out and race a Subaru some credit, because for some reason, there is no money behind these efforts YET, and so these people are pioneers in our Subaru community and deserve more respect for their efforts.

Watching the Runoffs on Tivo now. They spotlighted Chuck Hemmingson's STi about 5 minutes into the program. Pretty nice of Speed to notice :)

I could be mistaken, but aren't they moving this car to T2 next year? I'm fairly certain the STI lap times are pretty competitive with the T2 times, that could be a very fun car....for someone with more money than I.

Like i posted above.. his car is for sale and not much more than you can buy a new STi.
aren't they moving this car to T2 next year?
That's the recommendation in the December Fastrack. For the EVO too.
there's alot of vettes out there ... Car of choice for the series huh ...
As they mentioned on TV, and has been debated at length in the T1 forum, for the cost of a fully race prepped Vette you can't buy a street version of any other competitive car.
bvondran 11-23-2004 04:42 PM

With the new T3, and the much discussed transition of SSB and SSC to T4 and T5, Touring could become the next world challenge. Tourings should be a lot of fun in 4 or 5 years.

I think Hemmingson qualified better than all but 1 T2 car at the runoffs. I think the move of the M3, EVO, and STI to T2 made them the cars to have in that class.

He dropped back several places and and was lapped by Heinricy. Anyway Heinricy has won 4 times in roll and works for GM on the vette. I say it would be safe to say he is a "WORKS" driver. I don't know why they allow him to drive in the runoffs. He does get his butt kicked in other forms of racing so I guess it's his pay back.

why wouldn't they let him drive in the Runoffs? They have let Paul Newman run in past years. If you have the money to run, you can run.
they are just changing the names...not the rules.
As I understand it, they're thinking doing it because of the difficulty in policing OEM shock valving, ecu's, etc. Moving these classes to Touring allows those items to be free.
why wouldn't they let him drive in the Runoffs? They have let Paul Newman run in past years. If you have the money to run, you can run.
Yeah that was just to promote the sport and he was a good driver, but I thought you had to win a certain number of races and then be invited. The last few times Paul Newman raced very poorly and had the best car bar none, wait a tic Pauls was 80 something. :D
DILLIGAF Racing 11-24-2004 05:40 PM

You don't have to win any race. You have to enter 3 National races, then you get the invite. And Paul Newman was running a GT1 car that whole years, and he was 80 exactly I believe. Pretty sure it was one of the years I was there. Those things are LOUD at 8 in the morning after a long night of drinking.

He must be nuts, no the people on the track must have been nuts to drive with him ,no the SCCA most have been nuts to let him drive....just kidding I always liked Paul. :D If all you have to do is race in 3 events why didn't our main man Gary Sheehan run it the event or does he.
DILLIGAF Racing 11-24-2004 08:25 PM

does he run any SCCA? It has to be a National level race. I am almost positive on this, we are building a Production car, and we look alot into this.
