If you guys could show just one photo to someone who has never heard of rallying, or if you just have a favorite photo of rallying, post it, here is my contribution, I always liked this:

"I don't know who this is. There's no way of knowing. But this image from the 1974 Canadian Winter really captures the true essence of rallying I think. Two people alone in the middle of the woods at night. Competing against the elements and trying to excel. No spectators. No glory. Just the challenge. Note the ruts off to the right where someone has already gone off here."

too many images to choose from....
but i think anything from Safari will wrap up what rallying is all about....
2 people... 1 car... vs extreme conditions...
yeah... for sure that's the stuff i live for :)

It would be Mqrko Martin with his WRX airborn in Finland a couple seasons ago or just a nice shot of a Lancia Stratos jumping.
All the above pics are great though.

Monte Carlo

Quick0002's post is literally breath-taking...
But I always think of Monte Carlo as the classic world championship rally, with it's mix of dry, and wet tarmac, plus often snow and ice, combined with lovely french towns and countrysides...

Colin MacRae, Monte Carlo 1998, hanging it out before an audience, on tarmac of varying grip levels...

seeing these wonderful GC8 rally shots makes me happy...during a lame work day things like this are needed to help me maintain sanity!!!!
The puge did doughnuts because 1. he was so far ahead it was silly and 2. he had just confirmed him winning the season championship.

That's Gilles Panizzi... he never won the season championship, AFAIK. He did the spins because yes, he was way ahead, and also because he's a great guy and wanted to give a little gift to the fans, I think.
Wasn't that also his home rally?

I love the shot of the donut tracks that Rattler posted... That is funnier than the shots of the donuts themselves!

OTG has it, the FIA Banned doing donuts at the finish at the start of the year, So gilles did them mid stage. It was Catalunya, thats the most famous corner on the rally.

Someone must have the picture of Pat Richard in his early days getting huge air in the Rocket Rally RS. It's the one Dave Clark has up in his shop. Shows the car really high. Excellent shot.
