Halo's (evil eyes) w/pics
well, i didn't even know what halo's were until last week. i saw a pic of them on a green WRX. well, i liked them. sooooooo... i made them! let me start by saying that these are a PITA to make and install. they look good though. i'll post more pics in the daytime or evening when you can see them better. what you all think?

(i'm sure this will be called rice sooner or later... but then again, so is everything it seems!)

me likey, not ricey
Dr Ken 07-10-2003 10:22 PM

Those look freak'n awesome.
Okay, so you'll have to tell us:
- what you used (hexagonal v round plexy)?
- make little slits or ribs?
- what is your light source (LED, color, voltage, etc)?
- how did you splice this in electrically (slaved of of driving lights)?
Yeah, day time shots would be really nice.
Thanks... and again, those look excellent, not rice man.

round won't work. has to be hexagonal to bounce the light.

little slits.

LED for me. 5mm, 3.7 volt, 20mA, 2600mcd...you will need resistors from radio shack

run a search thru google, there's tons of websites that show tutorials.

thanx! i just checked back and saw that you all posted. didn't mean to be a jerk  J/K.

-definatly hex shaped rods. you can get them at wal-mart, lowes, etc.

-made little slits. i tried a few different ways, but light, little slits worked the best.

-3.6 volt white LED's from radio shack. also put a 220 ohm resistor inline with the positive lead.

-i used the DRL lamps on the morette's. the little bulb that is in the high beam housing. made my own little plug out of a piece of the mini-blind wand.

i like the way they look too. i also agree that the HID look is kinda off with the regular lowbeam color. i guess it gives me a reason to switch to HID's in the low beams!

thanx again!
Black-X 07-10-2003 10:53 PM

here's a pic of the test rod.

From right to left:

-small little vertical slits
-small X's
-medium/deep slits
-light diagonal slits

this pic is with a normal flashlight. you can see how quickly the light degrades, so LED's were a must.

i chose the light slits, placed decently apart. about 4mm. the light also will not degrade as quick with light slits. i tried a couple other rods, and the deep slits block too much light from going from one slit to the next. i like the X's, but decided not to go with it.

I agree, that looks pretty cool.

Check out this website for a DIY. Granted, it's a corolla, but I think the concepts are the same. :)

That first pic is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.....Good job!!!!
imprezive one 07-10-2003 11:36 PM

how did you manage to get your morettes apart? I've heard that the silicone or whatever they used to seal the housing in is really tricky to work with and it's easy to mess up your lights. I've been wanting to do this for a while now but i'm just scared. Did you oven bake your headlights? How long did you put them in there and at what temperature? What were some of the major issues/hangups you encountered? Any pointers? Any and all information would be extremely appreciated. Awesome job!
Black-X 07-10-2003 11:56 PM

i used a heat gun, and a flat tip screwdriver. heated the housing up, and started prying. make sure you DON'T try to bend the 4 little clips that help hold the housing!!! they WILL break. i broke 2 right off. just pry around the whole thing, and when you've gone all the way around it, pry the housing NEXT to the clips. then they will come off. it's no joke. it is a SERIOUS PITA to take them apart.
SubaruRules 07-11-2003 01:15 AM

man
That looks nice,
dRu888 07-11-2003 07:28 AM

i lav it. it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
Edvig 07-11-2003 08:39 AM

The original evil set is up for grabs if anyone is interested. :)

That's hot
WR xplosive 07-11-2003 12:45 PM

WOW!!! bVery nice! I thought this was only possible with RSX, never thought it's for all the projectors.

I found an instruction over the web.
http://students.washington.edu/ashis/Creating%20Custom%20Angel%20Eyes.htm

but for some reason, the car on the above website doesnt do justice for the Angel Eyes.

edit: and I found this too :D

they were sweet untill i found out they were on morrettes. They definatly are cool, and i bet look great at night, but it seems that they are now just less ugly morrettes.
imprezive one 07-11-2003 01:30 PM

morettes rule... <--- matter of personal taste, as is everything else.

I saw a member on the boards that put DIY angel eyes into his stock headlight housings and IMHO it didn't compliment the look at all. Looked very incongruous with the whole headlight. There was too much open space around the ring, not like the isolated orbs of the morettes.
128d 07-11-2003 08:41 PM

I so want to try this on my STi projectors.

you think that looks funny, some guy on vwvortex did this to a mk4 jetta. A jdm projector setup WITH angel eyes... sexy
silverF4turbo 07-12-2003 12:39 AM

If someone has the balls to crack open a set of JDM/EDM projectors and try this I bet that would look insane
who farted? 07-12-2003 02:46 AM

that looks solid. too bad you can't do that with the JDM projectors. those look even meaner than the BMW's.
WuWrx 07-12-2003 03:44 AM

very nice :)

2nd that...that is kewl indeed...how do the Bimmers do it?
128d 07-12-2003 12:30 PM

They do it the same way, just a little more "hi-tech". :D

Whomever made that site / instructions is one creative mofo! I may hate Civics, but that guy has talent!

I wish they made Halos for the new Forester XT!

Turbo X 07-13-2003 12:15 AM

Freakin awesome dude! *wish I had the balls to take apart my Morette. :( *
Roy Lin 07-13-2003 12:19 AM

Those e-bay projector headlights look very, very cheap...

i wouldn't buy them, they probably aren't even DOT certified...
128d 07-13-2003 12:21 AM

^
Go for it, it is hard to make a big mess up with this sort of thing.
Ahzlon 11-20-2003 02:47 AM

does anyone think it would be possiable to do these "devil eyes" in stock GC8 headlights.. or if not there.. does anyone think it would look kewl to put them around the fog lamps???
02R6 11-20-2003 03:29 AM

Personally, I do not think it would "kewl" if they were around the fog lamps.

As to the possibility of putting them around GC8s, I don't know.
StewedSquirrel 11-20-2003 04:04 AM

I like the round blue look too, got that look on my MY98 OBS not too long ago (though not in the headlights. With just that, it's subtle enough to be tasteful, but still really 'obvious'. :-)

Nice work. I like yours better than mine! Trade ya cars?? :-)
grknss 11-20-2003 08:25 AM

Incredible! No rice there at all!!!!

and if anyone does this the the US STi please post how ;)
SpamMansXe 11-20-2003 10:29 AM

dude, that is the hotness!
CrazyMike13 11-20-2003 04:28 PM

Good lord those are hot! Do they make them for my GC8???
9o7wRx7o9 11-20-2003 08:38 PM

You know you could make some $$$ off of that...i may want you to do that for me some day when I get some EDM projectors ;)
Ahzlon 11-20-2003 11:38 PM

Well that got me motivated.. although my RS has larger fogs... but i'm gonna do some fiddleing and i think i'm gonna install some of those inside my stock GC8 headlights
here is a link for makin home made Devil Eyes

I did it to my CG8 stock headlights, I had a line across the top of the light and down the center, looked like mean eyebrows, I made one better than the other one so I took them out 'cause they weren't consistant

Now I have LED's pointing to the back of the light, kinda makes the whole light glow

Ahzlon 11-20-2003 11:50 PM

Hey could u post a couple of pics of that.... would love to see how ur project turned out... and you might get a copy cat :D
IronMonkeyL255 11-20-2003 11:52 PM

Those are some very good looking 'eyes'. I also think it'd look wicked in a set of GC8 headlights.
CrazyMike13 11-21-2003 10:40 AM

I second on some pics!
Machine Age Victim 11-21-2003 02:05 PM

I don't have pics of the led backlighting yet, but when I do I'll post on a seporate thread

I'll hist photoshop to try and replicate the eyebrows, did look pretty cool, but very much a PITA
Ikonosin 11-21-2003 04:13 PM

Hey Black-X, how about some up-close pics during the daytime so we can see how they look:)
