Hate that STi spoiler/wing

Hello All enthusiasts,
This is a question about the rear wing on the STi.
I know the spoiler/wing on the new STi is functional and provides downforce. However, I simply just don't like it! Plus my commute requires me to not go over 80 MPH were in other situations above 80 mph the wing may actually become effective. My question is, does Subaru or any aftermarket companies make a less (Fast and the Furious) aggrerssive wing...one that does not look like a giant rectangle? I understand that some people like the wing, and I don't mean to offend, but I'm approaching 30 and don't need the extra attention. Has anyone changed their rear wing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ben

You can usually find a WRX owner who is willing to trade decklids and spoilers. Post in your local forum.

When you say wingless...are there any holes that need to be patched up on the trunk lid?
Thanks,
Ben

sorry for sounding dumb...but I'm new to the Subi world...what's "mine's lip"?
| Laugh Damon | 12-11-2004 10:22 PM |
I think its a brand of a front lip, or a front spoiler or whatever you want to call it.
And to get wingless, you would need to trade trunks with a 2.5rs
Doesnt the 05 STi have an aluminum trunk?

sti trunk is same as wrx trunk which is the same as the rs trunk as far as im aware
to get wingless you would have to find someone who has a wingless crystal gray and trade with them, easy since it bolts on, makes it hard due to the new color so only 05s have that color
and the sti wing has insane holes under it if you take it off, something like 12 holes on your trunk to patch
mines spoiler is like this little lip that goes on the trunk at the point where it goes perpendicular so it looks like a added lip on the trunk. kind of like a m3 if i find a pic ill post it
have fun be safe

If u do go wingless, U beter do something about the springs or what ever in the truck, Itll shoot up and knock u a good one to the face if ur not careful. That baby shoots up there with all of that weight...

bwagman - we sell the mines trunk spoiler. It's a very nice and subtle :). Here's how it looks -

visionracing,
The spoiler looks nice, do I need a new trunk lid? Also how much and what about painting/installation?
Thanks,
Ben

^^well depends which you get, the real one is carbon fiber and you can just use double sided tape to adhere it
they make a replica one to which youd have to paint and attach some way, most dont fit to well
the one above almost looks molded in..

Ben - it's designed to fit all 2002-2005 trunks. Painting would depend on what your local bodyshop charges. Installation is done via 3m commercial doublesided tape that mines supplies with it. Pm'd you some pricing info :)

i think the mines spoiler makes the wrx look like a toyota echo. anyone agree?
| Handsdown | 12-12-2004 02:03 AM |
i think it looks more like a wrx with a mines trunk lip.
| mw1029h | 12-12-2004 03:40 AM |
I purchased a replica mines fiber glass it cost less than 200.00 shipped. I had it painted for 150.00 it was glued on. Its ok but if I had to do it all over again I would have just bought the carbon fiber, my car is blk. check around don't buy the first mines lip or replica you see prices very greatly once you no what you want look hard for a good price.

Does the STi wing come in two parts? In other words, it looks like I can take the top half off? Just to see what it looks like...Is this possible, has anyone tried it?
Thanks for all the input,
Ben

uuummm NO, i have a WRX that came with out the $300, wing option. all 4 door Imprzas have a wing as an option, except the STI. it's juat that delears expect every one to want one so that's what always gets ordered.

I think it is a fair sticky. Heck, having a sticky with the different wing and lip options would be fantastic. Pretty much, a link to ravensblade-impreza would pretty much cover it.

I guess the "newbie" subi owner doesn't know the drill....
It's funny in the past I've owned a Vette, and a Roush Mustang, both have their own dedicated forums... although there are those typical "here we go again" threads like in this one...it's nice to see the responses and suggestions I've gotten on this thread.
Here's what I did, I actually removed the top half of the wing, looks better and has a less "pull me over" look.
I temporarily buttoned up the holes with plastic pushpins (did a leak check) seems to be fine so far...I was thinking maybe I could make a "cap" paint it and fit it around each edge of the wing (kinda like a boot)...
It's not perfect, but I'd rather not go for a trunk exchange.

uhh but now its like a tie fighter deal since there is nothing that connects the left riser to the right, i think id look how you say strange?
why not exchange i mean you can look and compare both colors will match so no fear there and people would prob pay you to trade since your giving them an sti wing...i dunno just my opinion cause i think what you have now is more pull me over cause it looks like your trying to mod it and junk

It doesn't HAVE to be CF. For those of you in the know, would this just mount to the existing holes, or would I have to also get the trunk lid?
Thanks!

thats the sti replica wing, only comes in cf or the replica which is like fiberglas with cf wrapped over it
alot of places sell it, replica is not that much, real one goes for more than youd want to spend for a spoiler
fits stock holes

I saw a silver GD impreza here in morgantown with the top of the wing removed. I personally think wingless is the way to go if you have an itch to remove the wing.
