Scca Touring 2 Racing Air Today On Speed, Dec. 3rd @ 2pm
Hey, Fellas, this just a friendly reminder to tune into our Touring 2 Runoffs race today at 2pm eastern time on the SPEED Channel. I'm a one of the two race techs on the ICY/Phoenix Subaru Factory Team. We kicked a$$ all season and finished off with a bang in this race. Most claimed this to be the best race of the entire weekend at the Runoffs. If you LOVE Subies, tune in. You won't regret it.

Thanks Jay. Finally, something worth watching on Speed again. I'm so sick of NASCRAP. I wish they cover more rallying also. Maybe even Rally America events. And who cares to watch a bunch of rednecks commenting about NASCRAP either. Speed should cover more of a variety of auto-racing IMO.

Anyway, sorry for the rant and thanks again Jay ;)
pitwipe 12-03-2005 11:24 AM

PVR set :)
Butt Dyno 12-03-2005 01:49 PM

Yeah I added an 'SCCA' keyword to the TiVo a while ago. I recommend it :)
Patrick L 12-03-2005 02:34 PM

MAN!! Talk about some bumping and banging. crazy

You guys here the talk about Hemmingson and his team looking to get with Subaru about a Speed GT team. Any word on that?
psg 12-03-2005 02:46 PM

I doubt it. At SEMA they had an 06 STi on display, "prepped" for T2, so I expect them to go that route again.

Wow, finally got to see it, great racing. Hopefull SOA will pony up some $$$ so they can go pro racing soon.

And why is it that all the SRt-4's like to punt everyone off the track out there. 7 out of 10 times a car goes off, its because of teh Neon diving down the inside being a jackass..

I just watched the race! I knew who won already, but that was the best wheel to wheel, fender to fender race i've seen in a while. How about the amazing save the sti pulled with three laps to go through the carousel! Wow!
REDI-wgn 12-03-2005 03:05 PM

all i have to say is , 'what a race'
hemmingson is a drving ass b****.
thumbs up
kfoote 12-03-2005 03:05 PM

The '06 STi was also on display at the Runoffs.

The T2 race has been very good the last few years, and this was no exception. It's kind of a shame that Rob Hines got punted early on, he had been very fast all week. Many of the guys up front ran in the Northeast Division, and even during the regular National races they put on a good show from where I was sitting :)
bigSTIck 12-03-2005 03:07 PM

I was on the "edge" of my seat

This race was the best ever. The save was impressive, excellent driver.
D fresh 12-03-2005 03:08 PM

That race was the shiznit.

Hemmingson's (sp?) save in closing laps was awesome, you could tell that Knowles (in the f-body) gave him the chance to save the car and the position, that was pretty cool.

I was stoked to hear that SOA might launch a pro attempt in Speed GT or Trans-Am. I hope they do. BTW I see no SCCA designation on the front bumper, hopefully the '06 T2 car is a disguised Trans Am or Speed GT effort.

That was one of the most entertaining and rivoting races I've seen in a long time. I can't wait to see more Subies in these events. Makes me want to run out and enter T2. Maybe in 2007 ;)
bemani 12-03-2005 03:44 PM

Very exciting race. Nice amount of Subie exposures too :)
zoomfactor 12-03-2005 04:04 PM

+1

One of the best races I've seen on television in a while.

You mean, Grand-Am and not Trans-Am.
pitwipe 12-03-2005 04:16 PM

What an incredible race! My heart was in my mouth the whole time. Congrats to everybody on the Subie team!
kevin 5150 12-03-2005 04:34 PM

that was a great race!!!! i was just flipping throught the channels and found the F-500 race going on, so i thought i would watch to see what the next race was. it was the T-2 race and i was sooo glad that i got to see the Subie's kicking some arse. it was too bad that the caution came out about halfway through. Hemmingson was walking away with it with a 3 second lead.

but that was a GREAT race!!!!

hope that SOA does pony up some money for a full out Speed GT or Grand-Am effort. that would be fun to watch.
8Complex 12-03-2005 05:10 PM

Agreed, that was an AWESOME race. If all the races were like that, I'd tivo all those the same as WRC. A LOT of fun to watch.
Genya 12-03-2005 07:59 PM

Thanks for the heads up, that was a really good one! Go Subaru!
blue blurr 12-03-2005 08:07 PM

Do they have other T2 races? Or is it only the once a year thing at the runoffs?
srt4eh 12-03-2005 08:32 PM

was an awesome race.....great job
AndrewSS 12-03-2005 08:45 PM

awesome race, i got to see it live :)
joey1313 12-03-2005 09:07 PM

That was fun to watch. Good job ICY\Phoenix.
meridock 12-03-2005 09:13 PM

Best race in the entire week. Carnage and finesse driving!!!
Kostamojen 12-03-2005 10:41 PM

Did anyone Tivo it? I dont have speed :(
Do they have other T2 races? Or is it only the once a year thing at the runoffs?
The SCCA has many regional and national races across the country all year. Finishing top ten in your region (winning national events in your region) qualifies you and makes you eligible for the Runoffs. The Runoffs are like the crowning event for the SCCA, where one driver from each class is awarded the National Champion for his or her class.

That was an awesome race. To see it from pits was definitely an experience. With all of the work I was doing (timing, radio-ing, mental planning) made it just impossible to enjoy at the time, atleast till the checkers. Plus all of the excitement and drama made it nerve-racking. Was nice to be able to sit back, drink a beer and enjoy watching for once. I knew how it ended though :p

BTW, I believe some links to some in-car footage from David Rosenblum (the 06) and also a new Subaru driving game are available on Subaru's website www.subaru.com
Our team's website also has some info on it, www.icyracing.com

Thanks a million to everyone for the support and be sure to check in on us in this next year, we have some new, neat things cooking!!

mofugga 12-03-2005 11:11 PM

that was some of the best/exciting racing i've seen next to speed touring! awesome that subaru took 1-2, maybe it'll help them to realize they're good on the road too ;)
Butt Dyno 12-04-2005 04:20 AM

So - in lap 17 - did the lead car get hit, or did he just run out of traction? Right before he made that great save..

AmolaitoPR 12-04-2005 06:15 AM

This race was the first SCCA race I ever saw. Awesome display by the subies. I hope they can get qsome dinero from SOA. It's funny how the Evos weren't even mentioned during the race (AFAIK).

Those neons sucked A**!

Who cares they're both race series that I no longer watch because a) the coverage sucks and b) there are no Subies representin'.

He got popped in the back when Knowles ran out of braking room. It was a classy move on Knowles' part to back off and let Chuck save the car and keep his spot.

Awesome race, awesome job. Hopefully 06 won't be another 3 car T2 effort, but maybe a 1 or 2 car effort with an entry into WC or Grand Am :)

skuttledude 12-04-2005 08:37 AM

Actually I thought the move that Knowles did at the keyhole was lame. WEnt into the grass to try to bump Chuck out...wayy too optimistic..Nevertheless, Chuck held his groud and did a great job throughout the race.

side note..I notice he is on Good Year tires. I didn't know that they made a good Club/Tracking tire. I'm more familiar with the Kumho and Hoosier track tires. Anyone know anything about this?

Here's some info from Goodyear's website.

They have some price info on their showroom stock D.O.T. tyres..

Amen, I was glad Knowles was a classy veteran and backed off.

The announcers did not pick up on the fact that Knowles hit his brakes to allow Hemmingson to continue on and not take an unfair advantage away from the Subaru. It was only on the replay that you could see him tap his brakes and let off.

Great save...imagine the red mist at that moment and being able to pull that off...

Actually they did. I watched it again and they mentioned to look at his brake lights during a replay of that incident.

Then your not watching in the right channel then. Plus, Subaru could run in Trans-Am.
zzyzx 12-04-2005 11:53 PM

With all the press... I'm a little confused why:

http://subarumotorsports.com/

... has nothing to do with Subarus. Anybody have an explanation for this?

That's FUBAR'd......Dam sad!

Did anyone ever buy the silver STi that took 2nd?

icyracer-

Excellent driving!! You have a great team, kudos to all the hard work you did this year.
javid 12-05-2005 10:04 AM

Announcers comment to firebird that goes off in the madness early in the race:

"I'm going to add that to the list of things you don't want to have happen: going off the course airborne and backwards."

ROFL
Hrm, must have missed it. What spin did they put on it?
Everyone there, including Hemmingson, gave Knowles a thumbs up for the classy move.

Ironically Hemmingson gave knowles room for the divebomb attempt at the hairpin. Nice driving.
Did anyone ever buy the silver STi that took 2nd?
Actually Kristian Skavnes PSM STI T2 car is still available. The car is very stout and was refreshed prior to the Runoffs. It has a good, strong motor and tranny and wear n' tear parts such as wheel bearings were replaced prior to the event.
