Mehhhhh...havn't seen any National/Tour exposure...must be all local stuff......hmmm...wonder if its faster than Stompy or any other WELL Prepped BSP cars..?????? I doubt it........Its illegal in SM anyways...since they cut the front bumper beam...should be a FP car...

Not that I know anything about the car, but are you sure they cut out more then 1 pound of material from the bumper beam? Speculating that a car is illegal without knowing the facts kinda bugs me...

ummmmmmm..I would say they cut or replaced the whole beam..."Speculating"...is not the issue......FACT is that for a HUGE front mount to work...they would have to cut AT least 5 or more pounds out of the beam...Basically...when a huge front mount is positioned...it usally uses a new front Beam...TXS, APS, COBB, Insert Big company here....uses a Replacement beam....if it were cut...or they used a replacement beam..is Illegal in SM...period...

Umm, he's participating in the discussion, so his moderator hat is off right now. If he does any moderating in this thread, THEN it would be bad karma. However, I doubt that would be forthcoming.

So if you think he's stirring up trouble, you must be in a position to know the particulars of the car in question. Educate us instead of telling people how to behave.

So everyone is upset because they hacked the bumper beam to fit in the front mount? Wow....autoX is strict.
trhoppe 05-31-2006 12:24 PM

No, everyone is not "upset".

He just broke the rules for the class that he is running. EVERY SPORT ON THE PLANET HAS RULES. If you break the PARTICULAR RULES FOR THAT SPORT, it would be the same thing as this. It just happens that the RULE IN HIS CLASS prohibits from hacking bumper beams.

Why is this stuff so hard to understand? Does rally not have rules? Does drag racing not have rules? I *know* road racing has rules. I guess street racing doesn't.

Its not that we are upset....but rules are rules...ESPECIALLY on a NATIONAL level/known car...it seems it would be under scutany at that level...Local stuff..no one cares.......

Would you want to run against a car knowing it will beat you and is illegal for the class????

Bill
FlySpy 05-31-2006 12:33 PM

I run against cars all of the time that illegal in their class for some reason or the other. We all have and I guess it really only matters if they are faster than we are. I dont post alot on the forums because I usually get in a fight of some sort. all I'm saying is that we are speculating on the bumper, it makes sense that it is cut, but I don't know for sure, so I will not say anyhting. That's why we protest......maybe someone should warn the owner that this may be a problem. Thanks for your understanding Bill!

Andrew
.....Does it matter who I am to leave a post here. If you were charged with cheating would'nt you be concerned?
Andrew
Actually yes it does....and yes I would be concerned...

Everybody knows that when you put a BIG Frontmount on...you will HAVE to do something with the beam......

first off...the Beam Part# 57711FE071 is a Double Beam...and right below the top part of a stock Bumper...is a black strip in the middle...behind that is the Absorber..Part # 57705FE040...The absorber is mated to the beam...which is behind Said Black Strip...the absorber is Obviously Gone...along with the bottem Beam on the Stock Bumper beam...which is a helluva lot more weight than 1lb....more like 20lbs....

The other "indicator" is that the intercooler piping has to to be Routed behind the foglight covers...which you will have to cut the end parts of the beam to get the piping to fit...

anyother Questions....I can provide you a detailed list if you want...and frankly..I am surprised noone protested the car before I said anything...

I'd rather find out now than at Nationals after day one is completed and I have no chance to go back in time to fix it.

It could be that he interpreted the rules differently when the car was built. This could be an honest mistake.

Just becuase you are in a region where there are a number of illegal cars doens't mean that it is okay everywhere.

Exactly...^^^^still  over that one...

Look I didnt' mean to create a ruckus.....honest..I think its great that Cobb and SOD have a reputation...there are quite a few threads over a FM in SM ....if it retained the stock Bumper beam...and/or didn't remove any material to make it fit....the carry on...But most of us know here that it has.....

not a big deal...if Chris wants to continue to drive it...who am I to say he can't...

According to those results, the Cobb car was over a second slower than the two BSP EVOs. (Nearly 1.5 seconds for the faster of the two EVOs.) Sounds like some seriously fast EVOs!

trhoppe 06-01-2006 01:12 PM

-Tom
That event was at the TMS bus lot, a very low grip sealed asphalt surface. The spread there between the ST* cars and "R" compound cars tends to be much smaller. Also that particular course was very transition heavy and no power spots. Not justifying anything, just adding comment.

-Paul

ps: Dead Neova's suck very bad there too. =/
KC 06-01-2006 02:32 PM

Paul,

Tom was being sarcastic... an SM car shouldn't be losing to BSP by a second... the SM carshould be faster. If anything, all things being equal, Chris needed a 51.522 to beat SM in PAX.

Here are the Pax results: http://autocross.com/tr/tr306pax.shtml

Nothing looks out of whack there in those results. Good mix up front. If it really was too slipepry a surface and a course that favored transitional cars (speed maintenance), you'd see more street tired cars in the top 20. I only see 3.
So everyone is upset because they hacked the bumper beam to fit in the front mount? Wow....autoX is strict.
Actually for the most parts, rules have to make sense. And if it wasn't strict there would be a lot of things done with good intentions that don't meet the rules

I'd have to agree with all above, that FMIC looks huge and heads north into the bumper and that's beam territory.

the fastest evo is a daily driver too. I talked to the driver the other day when I saw him on the road about a week after the auto X. he does a 60 mile daily commute in that car
AUTOwrXER 06-01-2006 03:57 PM

I don't need to know anything about the bumper to tell you that this car is not compliant. The fender flares for the rear tires are not legal by SP allowances, and there is nothing additional in SM that would justify it. 15.2.A gives an allowance for fenders, and the portion of the bumper and the hood which constitute the fender. There is no allowance to modify the door. It screws 4 door guys who want the "widebody" look, but that's the rule. The car is not compliant any way you look at it.
