2WD Invites for X-Games Rally part 1

LyveWRX 05-18-2006 10:06 AM

2WD Invites for X-Games Rally
Ok, since most if not all of us (who have not rallied yet) are going to have to start in 2wd, whats your pick for 2wd invitees.....

Heres mine.
Eric Burmeister
Doug Shepherd
10th Warrior 05-18-2006 10:16 AM

those are both good choices. I have a feeling an SRT-4 will be there.
fliz 05-18-2006 10:20 AM

I'd like to see Mark Utect...but since he's a regional competitor, I doubt he has a chance.
sachilles 05-18-2006 10:22 AM

One would think this would be a perfect venue for ANY sport compact vendor to display their stuff. Even being one little bit of the x-games, I would think it will give rally more US exposure than its had in the previous decade. That has to be a pretty big carrot dangling for the manufacturers.
XenoWolf 05-18-2006 10:25 AM

Well, Shepherd and Burmeister are obvious favorites. Matt Johnston might be a good choice, albiet he may not be in the series much longer. Kenny Bartram might pluck one away simply because of his celebrity status (and past X-Games competitions). Sprongl would also be on my short list in his quick 2WD Swift...
WOOKIE101010101 05-18-2006 10:41 AM

Doug Shepherd and Jon Nichols (guy does top 5s at CDN events in a GTI!).

Unless there is a RWD guy, like andrew havas...

then Havas and Nichols...
KC 05-18-2006 10:59 AM

Pick an underdog unknown. The little guy. Someone someone hardly knows, but is up and coming and fast.

Make this guy/gal 'happen'. :)

I assume these spots would go to anyone who can put on a good show for the fans.... The no fear factor and since 2wd is the introductory class I would figure they would be the younger driver catagory... or apeal to the younger fans like Cowboy Kenny.

+1 awesome local guy who is an amazing driver... mark drives a RWD mustang
FaastLegacy 05-18-2006 12:34 PM

There's a guy out of Saint Louis who drives a high horsepower late 70s/early 80s Corvette. That takes some skill, you can tell the car is a handful just by spectating.
WRXedUSA 05-18-2006 12:53 PM

Shepard is a fireball, he would be fun to see go at it.

+2 Mark and Rob FTW
LyveWRX 05-18-2006 01:36 PM

I always forget about RWD, Growing up in the age of 2WD cars has put filters on my eyes....

How about the HairyCanare Mustang? I heard it was still around.
greg donovan 05-18-2006 01:55 PM
I'd like to see Mark Utect...but since he's a regional competitor, I doubt he has a chance.
hasnt always been regional.

ran for the GN championship twice and almost won it.

he also has a national championship in G5 and PGT.

he would be awesome to watch in his G5 mustang.

that would be one heck of a show.

That would be Doug Jenkins and that car, nor driver, is nowhere close to Mark and his Mustang, who I completely forgot about :o I still think of him in the Subaru :o He would be an excellent choice.
AlbaScoob 05-18-2006 03:47 PM

There should be a RWD V8 shootout!
mykrrrr 05-18-2006 06:15 PM

Lurch aka Eric Burmeister
Jake Himes
The upcoming team of slidewrx/mykrrrr (oh wait...nevermind)
AlexP 05-18-2006 09:20 PM

How about Bill Bacon in a Canadian Swift+?
AlbaScoob 05-19-2006 07:26 AM

I'm sure there would be a greater choice of 2WD drivers if we had cars like this to draw interest...

Did this guy race in the Salem Rally Races last year, not sure about this year... BUT when I watched him, he made that vette do things....

I bet it was fun to drive...

He doesn't travel much. He's done the 100AW a few times and I think Headwaters and Maine or STPR a year or two ago where he rolled. His teenage daughter drives it to school every day, too.

I'd like to see Hamilton in the TDI and Freehill used to be exciting to watch, but don't think he's running this year. Kendall in his new SRT4 is another possibility.

Freehill went Group 5 1.8l turbo motor and blew the turbo up/had massive problems right before cog and hasn't gotten the thing back together yet...
LyveWRX 05-23-2006 07:38 PM
"Jake Himes"
I forgot about Da UP's own flyin finns, good call...

( I laugh a little at your third choice, though once you get er together, I should probably crew for ya.)
ryan j 05-29-2006 04:55 PM
Yes, why?
Running in a class with no other cars, then promoting yourself as a National Champion and the next American WRC driver..... plus they're looking for an exciting driver.
Evo3Codriver 05-31-2006 12:02 AM

The 4 that should get invites are :
Doug Shephard
Eric Burmeister
Jon Nichols
Andrew Havas

Matt Johnston doesn't seem to be going anywhere except in his press releases. Is the guy a flake or what?

He ran a pink civic and talks in ebonix, you be the judge.

There won't be any old rotaries there. Newer more marketable cars will be the only ones running, so no RX 7s.

ZING!

Hey, Nice to meet you too. Do you have any accomplishments I can make fun of over the internet?

Perhaps I should look up your stage times, and results. Since you seem to be so critical of mine. Even making fun of how I talk, your either a SERIOUS badass, or just really insecure?

As far as I know, you have never beaten us on any stages, and I am sure there are people out here that think you talk plenty funny as well.. My bad, they probably have some respect to not diss you about it on a subaru forum.

I've beaten Jake on stages, I've beaten Jon on stages, sure they are still faster, but I learn to go faster every event, thats how it works. The only problem is seat time costs a grand a day, and I only take home 20 of those a year.

Feel free to find the stage results from my last rally in the Civic, Tall Pines 2005. Unfortunately I can't post URLS (WTF?). Go ahead and analyze them, and then tell me how much slower, and less exciting I am then everyone. Or even better, the non keyboard junkie rallyists that have beaten me on the stages can tell me.

You think It is my fault that there was no big turnout in Gp2 Nationally last year? My bad, perhaps I should have put my door panels back in and duked it out huge style in the massive P class..... oh wait.

Ok, I should have put a snail on my motor and RUMBLED in the 10 entries deep Gp5 national slugfest... oh thats right.

The only classes last year that had solid, national competition were PGT and GpN. I dont get to choose who enters. I built a Gp2 because it is cheap, and similar to euroland. I didnt get to choose when to enter the events. You think I LIKE a lack of competition? I went to Tall Pines ONLY because I knew Jon was going to be there, and he is my benchmark.

I had the money last year to do 5 events, and I had to spend it last year. What am I supposed to do? NOT promote it? Oh oops, only 3 Gp2 cars at Maine, I better hush up, Isnt worth promoting it. Certainly, unless I'm spending 100K+ a year (to beat 3 cars, instead of 2) I have no business writing press releases.

Hey man, it is almost the same this year, in fact, the guys that bought my car are winning the championship again, they even removed the pink. So you wont feel as bad getting whomped by a girl car. If you hurry maybe YOU can win the championship. It hear it is SUPER easy.

Isn't it funny (and depressing) as to how well self-PR works sometimes?
WRXedUSA 05-31-2006 11:46 AM

pwnt.
JC_595 05-31-2006 12:18 PM

The occassional stage "win" over others in class is not indicative of a dominant driver, merely of problems with certain stages or things that happen. That is rally.
greg donovan 05-31-2006 08:49 PM

Hey Guys,

Havas is running STPR in the orange RX-7!

GO ANDREW!

If Havas or Himes get a 2wd invite, they don't have to run Rx7s. Just like the invited PGT and GrN guys are going to be running open class cars.
JC_595 06-01-2006 09:39 AM

I dont know where you got your info- but you are incorrect.

2wd invites are for exhibition only, and include bringing & running your own 2wd cars for exhibtion (show) on your on dime. 2wd invitevees will NOT be running for medals OR prize money.

-Straight from the horses mouth gentlemen. :) (although I shouldnt call JB a horse)

Indeed^^^ Thank you to everyone at Rally America.

What about a 2WD Subie? I'm pretty sure there was a G5 Impreza at Oregon Trail.

now that RA has upped the displacement limit in G2 a person could run a mildly built ej25 in a FWD 90-94 legacy or a impreza and have a pretty good time and still be able to drop a bunch of wieght out of the car. i know you can pu about 150 HP at the wheels w/one in a AWD impreza. imagine that motor in a FWD subaru!

Where does it say or who told you it must be your own car?

If Nichols or Havas are invited, whats stopping them from renting a Gr5 turbo car like a SRT4? Would make sense for either of them to rent either Sutherland's or Bruce Davis cars based in California rather than towing their own cars cross-country twice.

Its not like Havas wasn't looking to rent an Open class car for STPR.

My vote is for Eric Burmeister but I may be a little biased.
JC_595 06-02-2006 10:23 AM

I misunderstood your post. sorry.

I took your post to mean that 2wd invitees could run AWD cars if they wanted, or be "supplied" cars to run. Which is very incorrect.

You are 100% correct in your interpretation- Kenny Bartram for example- can, and most likely would (if invited), run a rented (or "borrowed") SRT4.

There are lots of fast 2wd guys now. It is unfortunate that most of the fastest do not run Nationals on a regular basis.
Joshw 06-29-2006 04:20 PM
Matt Johnston doesn't seem to be going anywhere except in his press releases.
Dave, I don't see any difference between his press releases and your claims of winning 2wd on every stage at NY. If you don't have anything nice to say...AND you havent done anything worth talking about yourself then, certainly, you should not be unkind to Matt.

You're just jealous that he is younger, better looking, and more optomistic than you. Even if he never makes it to a WRC event, he is trying.
Is the guy a flake or what?
Flakey? You mean like belittleing Matt's dream chasing on the internet?
XenoWolf 06-29-2006 05:12 PM

Well, since this thread is back, here are the invites:

Doug Shepherd
Jon Nichols
Kenny Bartram

2wd
after seeing hte vw tdi at sandblast.. it sad they wrecked it in the rain.. otherwise we might see a tdi take x games 2wd.. someday it may happen.they are the champions of 2wd previously.
Porsche914boxer4 08-06-2011 12:45 AM

dude, what?
2011WRXMT 08-06-2011 02:31 AM

Ive seen a 78 280Z built for rally.
2005wrxowner 08-06-2011 07:32 PM

a tdi golf from pennsylvania. rally car. very quick car.. a group that is teamed with rallytdi.com they have won 2wd at sandblast and other rallies before.. have been 2wd champions.that would have been cool. but they wrecked in the rain.. therefore i dont think they would have made it.
Porsche914boxer4 08-07-2011 03:26 PM

no, I understood your post. have you seen a 2WD car in XG lately?
