Anybody else notice the WRX badge on the back of the car? I thought these were 2.5 RS's?
I can't wait to see 'em rippin' up the track.

looks like the badge is only on one of em... not positive tho. I thought I remembered one car being a WRX built up for a different series, but I'm probably wrong. Maybe they're using the WRX chassis w/ a 2.5RS engine? Dunno why exactly cuz most of the stock parts that are different they're replacing anyway.

Irish Mike's originally had a WRX they Road Raced. Some of the parts have made they way over to the 2.5RS's, I assume the trunk did. :D

For the longest time I thought that they only did auto repairs, no modifying. Then I found out that they race a Miata, and now a WRX also. I'm pretty sure they are into lots of other stuff and it's probably on their website, but it's bedtime now.

Someone explain to me why they didn't use white wheels? I know superlegs don't come in white, but it's a touring car! Touring cars with white wheels look soooooo nice.
Anyways, good luck to Irish Mike's!

Very different regs... I believe the Speed TCC is much more loose about car modifications. As you can tell this one is running a whole lot of internal engine mods. However, I believe the STCC has spec tires, which is an interesting twist.

Qualifying is today!!! GO IRISH MIKE'S!!
Hopefully qualifying goes well today, yesterday during practice the King Motorsports entry with Rookie of the year Bob Endicott behind the wheel was t-boned by Boris Said after Endicott lost power and tried to manuver the car to the side by crossing over the pit lane exit. Boris was coming up the pit lane exit to enter the track for his first practice laps when Endicott crossed his path.
Boris Said's BMW was repaired and will make it to qualifying today. Bob Endicott's RSX was retired from the event.

lukerussell - I know the entire Irish Mike's crew is in Sebring right now so they may not have internet access to post times. The only online info I could find was here: http://www.theracesite.com/results.cfm?fri=2712 but it only list the times & speed from the Top 10 during the practice sessions. I'm trying to find some info on todays qualifying....
Ohhh found this...will offer live timing during qualifying & the race! :D http://www.world-challenge.com/
Qualifying starts at 11:30 EST today! (In about 18 minutes! :D)
Also car numbers seemed to have changed:
Micheal Flynn (Irish Mike!) is still #26, the second car with driver Steve Piantieri will now be #95
Cobreth - I don't know the specifics on the motors Irish Mike's built for the cars and the technical Specification sheet for the Subaru isn't listed online. http://www.world-challenge.com/competitors/vts.html I'm not sure if those are the stock size or not.

Wow, pretty brutal qualification. 37th out of a field of 41 cars.
37) Michael Flynn, Subaru Impresa, 2:39.741 / 83.384mph
and the front row:
1) Bill Auberlen, BMW 325i, 2:26.701 / 90.797mph
2) Roger Foo, Mazda ProtegeES, 2:27.498 / 90.306mph
But times sure are a changing... not a single Acura in the top 5 qualifiers, and only 2 in the top 20. Nice to see Foo right up there.

What a blast, just got home.
Micheal Flynn in the #26 2.5RS looked really good out there for the first 3/4 of the race. He was battleing pretty heavily in the middle of the pack for much of the time. He started fading back about 20 minutes before the end of the race and then retired the car. Teething problems for a new car & team I would suppose.
I'm not sure where the 2nd Impreza was, it never took a lap...hopefully we'll get an update from Irish Mike's pretty soon. Heck if they needed a driver I was there! :D
[emailprotected] - Are those pics from the outside of Turn #2? I was on the inside of turn #2 and saw a fellow with an awesome telephoto lens on the other side of the track...wonder if it was you?
Also saw a White WRX wagon w/exhaust, Silver WRX Wagon and a GDA 2.5RS in the "midway". :D
Had a great time, but now I must sleep! I'll get my pics up tomorrow!

this is my take, it's probably wrong, but it's my take:
the subie seemed down on hp. i was sitting (i don't have my map) on what i think is turn 4 or 5. i could see what i think is turn 2,3,4 and 5. Basically turn 2 is a hard left and then it corkscrews until they come out of 4, step on the gas and into 5 which would be a long sweeper. anyway, as they would come through the corkscrew the subie looked good, as they would come out of 4 and onto the gas the others seemed to have an advantage. they either had more hp or were just able to get on the gas earlier. the subie was fun to watch and they'll continue to improve.
that wheels america (i think purple and green) bmw guy was awesome. he started 4th, got a flat or spun or something, and then banged, pushed and muscled his way back to 12th. he was getting on the gas about 30 feet earlier than anyone else on turn 4. that allowed him to stick his nose in all sorts of places.

That was Robert Stretch in the Wheels America BMW, it was an awesome drive, every lap he came by he had passed 2-3 cars! Roger Foo was hanging tough in his new Protege too.
Did you stick around for the GT race? Those Campion Racing Audi RS6's were awesome, every other car came by and sounded like a loud race car, the Audi's were almost silent!
My Pics here: http://www.subaruchallenge.com/Wills/sebring.htm
P.S. I think the dent happened with this car a few minutes before I shot this pic!
For those waiting to see it on TV, Speedvision will be broadcasting this race on Saturday March 29th @ 4pm EST folled by the GT race at 5pm.

There was an F1 or CART race cancelled in DC as well. What the hell is with all these cancellations?

That doesnt sound right, your average Impreza should pull on other cars out of the corner...

I recieved an email from my freinds at IrishMikes, they updated the website and the word on the car that didn't start was that it lost piston. www.irishmikes.com check out the interview its a good read and for those of you who are local and stopped by the shop, you may have been mentioned.
So the cars are real now how long until Subaru notices and Writes the check?

Not when "other cars" are 400 lbs lighter, have 270hp+, and years of chassis development time.

Read the race diaries on the Irish Mikes site. He posted the events happenings. It turned out to be a "ventilated" engine for the 95 car. Then after "wheel bearing" and fuel starvation troubles on the 26 car, they pilfered parts from the 95 to make the show in the the 26. They're definately learning the little differences between the WRX and 2.5RS. Some parts are different that shouldn't be...gas tanks, wheel bearings, etc....
All was well from the start until electrical troubles started to slow the car. They finished, but well back due to lost power. They were happy with the start and might appeal for the "holeshot award" since they vaulted 7spots in the first lap though got tagged and maybe lost a spot because of it, or something......
The diary was pretty good to read. I expect the team to show some promise sooner than later!!!!!

That is more along the lines of what I was expecting to happen...
And other cars may have more power and more improvements, but the AWD is very noticable midway through a corner despite the weight of the Impreza. It isnt til after the corner where the lower whp numbers would cause problems, and into the corner where the lighter cars would gain the advantage. I do expect the Irish Mikes drivers to take more advantage of the AWD starts and learn better how the car handles as the season progresses though... It will take some experience to get right (just think of Gary Sheehan)

Does the Speed Touring rules allow for fuel cells?
As for wheel bearing. Yeah, those crappy rear ballbearing type bearings. I replaced mine and they are pretty crappy.
