Carbon Fiber Modification Wishlist?

Hi everyone--
I am reseacrhing the needs and wants of WRX owners-- I work for a carbon fiber (CF) fabricator.
I already have gotten some great ideas and insights from the locals here in Tempe, AZ, but I'd like to get a wider opinion.
What is your CF wishlist for your WRX? I am looking specifically for interior, exterior, and engine compartment components.
Also do you currently have any CF parts that you wish were better? What could be better about them?
What do you think should not ever be made of carbon fiber?
Thanks for your time.
Mark

Windows, pistons, seatbelts, airbags, tires, and lugnuts. A CF engine block would be m4d tyytttee3e!

Cheap carbon fiber mirrors would sell like hotcakes. A CF roof would be unique too, so you could CF skunk stripe the whole car :p

i like the idea of a carbon fiber armrest/glovebox cover.
Also one on these carbon fiber reflectors that doesn't say STI

And the plastic cover that goes around the instrument cluster.

For the love of God whatever it is you make, don't make it insanely expensive like every other CF piece of crap out there!!
| drivrswntd | 07-14-2005 04:22 PM |
good carbon parts cost lots of money. especially if you want something intricate or structural like a dash or a door.

There are very few aftermarket structural CF pieces for a reason. The engineering behind it makes it expensive. If you are making cosmetic parts it's not expensive. You don't need to make parts with controlled CF weaves, quality resins, nor complex curing processes.

how bout a scoopless hood, I know lots of people would jump on that, 02-03 and 04-05. CF dash kit, cf autometer dual pod, cf center console, cf diffuser, cf roof skin wagon and sedan, etc.

Steering column, dash/ac/door kits like the factory but real carbon fiber...none of those cheese stickers that always (always) look like...well, stickers.

i would like to see the CF roof, Canards and front bumper one piece, Eyelids that dont stick on, diffrent color CF that matches our cars, like a silver or blue hood etc...
| Handsdown | 07-15-2005 08:08 PM |
what do you mean eyelids that don't stick on? you want to bolt your eyelids into the lights?
make an inexpensive CF rear diffuser like the one on the JUN wrx.

I'm honestly to the point where I like ABS Plastic products and finish better than CF.
CF is getting played IMO.But using it for what its FOR is a major plus...not for necessarily the way it looks.
But if I had to pick anything it would be a CF version of the Syms upper wing attachment. (I would paint it but a cheaper version would be killer! $1000+ for a wing is F*&ked!

I have CF eyelids that are 3m i like them they give a good look but they have a wave in them on the light. i thought it was possible to bolt them to like the headlight bolts or something close to it but i also thought it would interfer with the hood.

CF door handles either the whole thing or just the lever for exteriorCF rain gaurds for the windows.

There is a website that has full CF door panels.
If you could do it, that would be amazing. Makes the car look like a 360cs.
It is easy to overkill your car with CF.

I'd go for CF canards that replace the STi stock splitter:

Something like this but without that plastic outline. :)
And CF rear diffusers

rear diffuser like the '06 STi, but in CF and fitment for the '05. Also, that new mini-wing on the '06 needs to be CF. Cosmetically, I'd like to see some CF underhood stuff that is not 'stick-on for my '05. (i.e Fuse cover and the piece that directs air into the fender, dash stuff like intrument cluster surround and radio bezel)
Basically, replace all the cheap black plastic

CF Jun Lemon Dragon rear diffuser
CF copies of stock parts (fenders, bumpers, 2 piece headliner!!, dash)
JGTC style dash/center console that fits the stock pieces, such as the gauge cluster and at least two din slots. Don't need airbags necessarily. ;)
All business look, can be lots of flat pieces with minimal curves and hardly any compound curves.
