kind of hard not to be swooned by the 710.
rankink 03-31-2006 10:45 AM

no doubt about it - v710
endeavor 03-31-2006 11:13 AM

Is this for autox, TT or everything?
KC 03-31-2006 11:19 AM

V710 Ftw!
WagonMonster 03-31-2006 11:59 AM

Toyo RA-1
MattSTi 03-31-2006 12:02 PM
Toyo RA-1
Second that (for road course). I don't do autox and cannot comment.
Jaxx 03-31-2006 12:20 PM

if $ isn't a concern life shouldn't be considered

imho kumhos are still "the cheep alternative" to Hoosiers
kfoote 03-31-2006 12:27 PM
Is this for autox, TT or everything?
yep, need more info. Money not being an issue:

Endurance races: Toyo RA-1
Sprint races/Time trials: Goodyear Eagle GS-CS
DE events: Toyo RA-1
Rain: Hoosier Wets
Intermediate wet/dry: Full depth Toyo RA-1's

Auto-X: no idea
Jack 03-31-2006 12:30 PM

This is like a Valentine One or something else decision.

If you want to win: Hoosier.

Otherwise...take your pick.

jack
wm07 03-31-2006 12:40 PM

^^^

huh? since when Hoosier is faster than V710?
of course, unless you are not talking about autox tires.
SPOOLN 03-31-2006 12:59 PM

Kuhmo 710's for me. The wife doesn't like a stack in the house, with Enya playing for the tires 24/7. But ehh, she understands.

V710 yo... heck, they're so good I got a cellphone with the same name! Motorola y0!
Scooby South 03-31-2006 03:43 PM

Sorry For AutoX...Should have specified earlier
JoBoo 03-31-2006 04:13 PM

I voted for hooseirdaddies, but not for autox. i dont know squat about autox. but if you want to turn left and right at over 100mph real fast.... whosurdaddy now?

edit: fwiw, price wasnt an issue here... if you consider $/traction/wear there might be better alternatives..
KC 03-31-2006 04:26 PM

V710s for auto-x... don't even look back man.
rankink 03-31-2006 04:38 PM
V710s for auto-x... don't even look back man.
Exactly!
Scoobie Doogie 03-31-2006 10:48 PM

V710's for sure. I ran 205/50R15 V710's and Hoosier S05 225/45/R15's on my ITR (fronts were 225 on Hoosiers and 205 on rear). The V710's were almost as fast and they were 20mm narrower. Superb tire, just needs more sizes available.

I'll double-2nd the RA-1

I've used them for track days and for street/mountain road driving and they just seem to last and last. I have a 2nd set that I haven't even had to use yet and it's been some time now. Have about 8 track days on them + street and I'm running -3f/-2.4 r camber.
blue blurr 04-01-2006 02:53 AM

Ra-1 :)
ca_deal1 04-01-2006 02:57 AM

RA-1 is good
KC 04-01-2006 08:24 AM

This is for auto-x people. :) The RA-1s cannot hang with V710s (given same driver capabilities/prep). Period.

Where does it say it's for Autox? Just says r-comp :p
Warp3 04-01-2006 11:01 AM

V710s...I've been running them for about 6-7 months now and they ROCK! :D

KCRex 04-01-2006 11:44 AM

I wish they had the V710's in my size (245/45 16). Since they don't, I have to pony up the $$$ for the hoosiers. We'll see how the A3SO5 do this year!
Lowball 04-01-2006 01:07 PM

yeah but what's he gonna do with a v710 when he hits a puddle... :D Guess as long as you don't plan on doing any wet auto-x days your golden on the 710's
WRX8XB 04-01-2006 01:40 PM

i still need R-comps....
Scooby South 04-01-2006 01:43 PM

Interestingly NO ONE has voted for the Hankook's...I know Tom is racing today....but...nada..

Actually, v710's in the wet do very well. Better than most other tires other than a full Hoosier rain r-comp
scby rex 04-01-2006 03:39 PM

I love my advan ao48 in med comp heat cycled.I got 5th at the state meet on them in sm with 18 others.I was the only one on stock turbo. This is my second season on them too. kinda pricy though

The statemeet in Houston? The 2nd and 3rd place car in SM has a td04 and were on azenis on top of that.

Like everyone else has said, if its for autox and price is no concern then 710s all the way.
KC 04-01-2006 04:04 PM

Yes, the V710s do surprisingly well in the wet. It had just finished raining in Oscoda with rivers of runoff still happening on the course and still standing water, and both myself and co-driver (Bauer) were faster on the V710s than anyone else on the Hoosier wets.

Just take a look at any national event list. The answer is obvious.
mav1c 04-03-2006 01:07 PM

I just track so wear is more important than overall grip. Just tried the Nitto-NT-01's this past weekend and they were great.

No Doubt...See the reason for this pole is that I have a Dilima......I have a decent Guy wanting to Co-drive for National's....and he's a Tried and True Hoosier Guy....I like the Kumho's....He's want to pay half the tires...but wants "only" Hoosiers....What to do...What to do...

Tell him he's going to get MORE runs, for LESS money AND he's going to go FASTER.

Bill
Is he on a Hoosier contract? It would be under no benefit to *you* if all he wanted was Hoosier, because you will have to buy 2x as many Hoosiers as V710s. (your 1/2 of the deal will still end up buying at least 4 Hoosiers depending on what events you go to). 2 sets of V710s will last as long as 3-4 sets of Hoosiers. (ie: 10ish local events, a couple tours and nationals all dual driven.)

I would pass on it and just buy V710s. They're that much better.
KC 04-03-2006 01:47 PM

To continue...

You get about 50-60 runs before V710s 'fall off' but about 90-100 runs before they're useless (and they hardly cord). After they fall off, they're great for local events (unless you want to/have to go 100% of that year end trophy).

Hoosiers have been known to CORD at or about 30 runs....

You do the math.
mhoward1 04-03-2006 01:50 PM

Probably need to specify WHICH Hoosiers..
06'S...
Although they haven't been out that long, time will tell if their shoulder improvements were good.

Set up the agreement this way: you both buy Hoosier 06s. If they cord within 40 runs, you switch to V710s without looking back. I'd call that fair. It give the new Hoosiers a chance, make your co-driver happy, and if they don't perform, plan B is a known solution.

That does sound like a good way of approaching I think, but you will probably end up on Kumhos anyway.

BUT RA1's are like 615's, VERY good DOT tires..Very close to true r compounds, but not quite.

Well, at Walnut Ridge, the #1 in index was on Hoosiers. So what's your obvious answer? ;)
Well, at Walnut Ridge, the #1 in index was on Hoosiers. So what's your obvious answer? ;)
Matt Braun in the Elise... the Elise doesn't have V710s that fit. :) So of course they're going to run Hooisers... there's no other options!

That's what we call 'stacking the statistics'.

I'm sure Matt would rather be on the Kumhos if he could. :)
Matt Braun in the Elise... the Elise doesn't have V710s that fit. :)
I'm aware of that, considering that it was my car. ;) It still shows that the Hoosiers aren't that bad. They seem to work very well on small cars without serious camber issues. The Kumhos have a much bigger advantage on heavy cars, especially if they're camber limited.
I'm sure Matt would rather be on the Kumhos if he could. :)
I wouldn't be so sure. We would certainly have to try them both to see which one is faster.

the RA1 is an R compound race tire.

all Autox Tires are DOT not sure where you're going with that comment.

I don't mean to hijack, but what size V710s are you guys running? I'm looking into a 17x8.5 rim, and the only v710s that I see from Kuhmo's website is a 245/45-17, which will hurt acceleration...

What are you guys running? (tire size and wheel) How much fender rolling?

Thanks,
-Brian
