Custom Made Gauge Covers for 2.5RS! part 1

ImprezedRS 05-09-2001 06:58 PM

Custom Made Gauge Covers for 2.5RS!

Ok i can do this for everone that has a 2.5RS. Not done completly on them still trying to figure out how to make the stock lights work with them. But they are basicly similiar to the indiglo gauge(they don't light up), it is a cover that goes over them. I can customize them to have whatever you want on them, notice mine has a map of Charlotte, NC on them and i have moved the red line to 7k RPM, there is also one thing added that many people would like, it is that i have added a mark for 125 & 130 mph, not sure on how acurate it would be but it does help. So here are the pics of them and tell me what you think and if you would like to have some made up when i get everthing figured out.

JC 05-09-2001 07:03 PM

That's crazy. I'm happy with my indiglos though.
ImprezedRS 05-09-2001 07:29 PM

These might work with the indiglo gauges, right now i have my indiglos behind these.
Aspen_2.5RS 05-09-2001 08:15 PM

That is definitely different.

Doesn't it make the markings you need to see harder to read? How do you tell when you need gas? When the needle is on "Greensboro?" [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] It is kinda neat though. I'm willing to bet if you did them in colors instead of a map, people would be very interested.

MagicMT 05-09-2001 10:01 PM

I agree with Brian. Nice custom work on the gauges though! Looks cleanly done [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 05:48 AM

I can put anything you want on them a picture of your car, wife, whatever you want it is all done on the computer and its hard to tell on the picture but it is really easy to read the markings, but i can do them in colors and other things.
Hades69 05-10-2001 07:28 AM

I have to say that is probably the most orignal gauge cover i have ever seen.
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 08:09 AM

Here is a sample one i made that Subie Gal might like...

ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 08:20 AM

All i got to do is print it out and you pay me the cost of it and its yours, like i said i can customize these things to what you want on them.
Accurit 05-10-2001 08:32 AM

thats a great idea u have....but u can t get your lights to work with it....

well heres somethin i ve seen when i went to korea last year...

In Cell phones...they were able to make any photo or image into a tranparent film...so they put it inside the cellie behind the screen and any time it would light up y\u would be able to see it.... some people has picsutres of their girlfriend/boyfriends, cartoons, words, so on....

so maybe thius can be a solution for your lighhting troubles.....just need to find someone who can do it...

heres my idea...trim around the surroundings of the MAP u have on yours where the numbers are so u can see atleast the numbers to lights up...
or set up to Photon Lights on to the steering wheel column and turn on and off when u need....u can get these at any Remington Stores these lil lights are like Mini Hyper Whites....ravers use these....i shined them on to my gauges(white light but they have many different colors) and it looks nice...

hope this helped a bit...
ChaosThom 05-10-2001 08:59 AM

That is remarkable Jason. Great job! I'll have to take a close look next time I see you.
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 09:18 AM

I thought about that Accurit but i would rather use the stock lights in the car. What I'm trying to do now should work, but will look into that more.
ForesterPerformance 05-10-2001 10:57 AM

So, is this the new low-buck alternative to in-car GPS? You'll never get lost as long as you don't leave Charlotte [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img]!

Did you do this on a drawing program? How difficult would it be to do one for a Forester so that it could be customized too?
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 11:22 AM

Does the Forester have the same gauges as the RS? If so it would be very easy. If not the i would would need a forester gauge cluster.
mpaone 05-10-2001 02:20 PM

Hey, put the Tach in the center like the STi's. That way, I can show everyone how fast my car reaches 90mph...then 50...then 90 again.[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Seriously though, you should make some with a small STi logo on the speedo.

BTW, nice work!

-Mike.
MagicMT 05-10-2001 02:37 PM

Just throwing ideas out there. STi logo on the tach and a Subaru logo on the speedo.
MagicMT 05-10-2001 02:38 PM

ImprezedRS, you said you have indiglos under there. How does that look at night? Pics?
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 08:01 PM

Ok I have everthing figured out now the stock lights will work for them but the indiglos won't unless you can figure a way to get all the markings off of them but, i will have several different designs made even a special i-Club one if I'm allowed the use of the new logo.
ImprezedRS 05-10-2001 08:23 PM

Also i would like you all to add some ideas of what you would like to see on these, i am planning on doing the STi ones and also a prodrive one, I will talking to a owner of a legacy and a owner of a new WRX for some custom ones for them.
Imprezed_Driver 05-10-2001 10:15 PM

Hey Jason, go to Staples and get some of the transparency film for overhead projectors. You can get them in any color you want, plus that will let the lights work really well. Only bad thing is you need to use a Zerox type printer that will heat the ink into the transparency. Another thing would be translucent paper to let the light through and you can still use an ink jet type printer.
ImprezedRS 05-11-2001 06:19 AM

Yeah that is what i used was a transparent type of material.
ImprezedRS 05-11-2001 07:40 AM

Here are two of the designs i will be offering which is one similar to the stock one and one with the STi symbol on the tach

Like i said these are custom and i will be putting a ad in the classifieds for these, you can choose what background and what color lettering and where you want the redline to start.
WRacerX 05-11-2001 08:09 AM

ImprezedRS, any plans for the WRX? I'd definitely be interested in some white gauges...

jacobhorn 05-11-2001 03:26 PM

I am deffinately interested in white Legacy guages. Thanks.
STi-Nismo Dood 05-11-2001 08:30 PM

Does anyone happen to have templates for the MY93+ L series Imprezas? I would want something like the Whitefaced STi gauge-skin. Whatever happened to the custom indiglo gauges that someone was designing for non RS models?
ImprezedRS 05-11-2001 11:15 PM

I will be trying to make these for all the Subaru models if the RS ones sell good.
STi - IMPREZA 05-11-2001 11:26 PM

Can you make some RS gauge that goes up to 180 MPH and with a tach of 9000RPm in white? Im pretty sure im intrested in that! Actually I have a set exactly like that, but in yellow, so if you can just transfer everything to white, that would be good! Let me know what you can do okay. Thanks
ImprezedRS 05-11-2001 11:51 PM

I could do it but you would have to send me the gauges and then i would have to scan and the make the templete and a whole bunch of stuff.
John2.5RS 05-12-2001 01:22 PM

Could I see a picture of the prodrive version?
ecfitzgerald 05-12-2001 09:01 PM

What type of restictions do you have, can you do foil? I would love to have that shiny blue used on watch faces.

Ed

And yes I WOULD like to have the IS gauges for those that would ask. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
Imprezed_Driver 05-12-2001 09:17 PM

I think you should make some for your fellow southeast members there Jason. hehe, we need a logo.
ImprezedRS 05-12-2001 09:51 PM

Hey if the southeast ever get a logo then i will make them. But i'm not making the prodrive ones .
Imprezed_Driver 05-12-2001 11:19 PM

a logo for the SE. hmmm, i wonder how many of the members would be interested.
ImpreziveRS 05-13-2001 06:40 AM

Any idea what the cost of these are going to be?
John2.5RS 05-13-2001 06:19 PM

No Prodrive! Why not?
ImprezedRS 05-13-2001 07:01 PM

There might be a prodrive one, maybe.
omahasubaru 05-14-2001 09:58 AM

STi guages with a yellow STi logo, and 7,000 rpm red-line would be perfect for me.

How well do these work without the indiglo set-up??

Jon
Norris 05-14-2001 01:25 PM

Hey ImprezedRS, great work! I was wondering if you have a kph version of the gauges? My car has the black background, and ideally I would like indiglo gauges, but all the ones I find say "RS" all over, and I don't want to be ricing too much. But, I do like the white ones you have (do they look like the standard RS ones?) Do the numbers light up? Do you have any pics of your mod at night?

Thanks man!
ImprezedRS 05-15-2001 10:02 AM

These will not work with the indiglo gauges and they are only for the US Spec RS, I have no night pictures yet but will get some as soon as i can figure out how to get my digital camera to take pictures at night. But i will be posting a thread in the private classifieds sectin this week so you can order them and the price is not set on these but they will definitly be cheaper than $50, so don't think they are going to be outragess price.
98mpreziveRS 05-15-2001 09:22 PM

hey man killer work, but i have seen them before..but probably the only reason i have is b/c i am a veedubber and a hardcore UK max'er [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img] wannabe
I saw them on a MKIII Golf a little over a year and a half ago, but still SCHWEET looking [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
I still am partial to the leopard one's a someone has on her dub [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif[/img] not normal, but their COOL!
anyhow NICE work [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
Stavros g 05-16-2001 12:32 AM

Looks good. How about the Canadian version of the RS...

Stav
ImprezedRS 05-16-2001 06:09 AM

I got the idea from Max Power magazine.
ImprezedRS 05-16-2001 09:01 AM

Ok i will be taking preorders on these coming up this week and will be making them this weekend. I'm starting out with four designs: Plain one similar to the stock ones, One with Subaru on the Tach, On with STi on the tach, and one with the STi Rabbit on the tach. You will be able to choose what color background and also be able to choose the color of the lettering and logo you choose. These will sell for $30 shipped and for the first week will sell for $25 shipped. I will be posting the ad for them soon in the private classifieds.

I'm assuming this is only in mph? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif[/img]
ImprezedRS 05-16-2001 10:26 AM

Yes these will only be the US Spec, but wait the Canandian ones are coming soon after i sell some of these to get the dash thing from a canadian one.
Norris 05-16-2001 10:45 AM
