AWESOME

Man...that's a NICE looking hood!!! Does anybody know the cost on this is???

gjhsu 10-14-2002 06:54 PM

Too bad you can't use a top mount with that... then it would be PERFECT.
rayder 10-14-2002 06:59 PM

but then hot air would get sucked in through the top...

Hood will be $895.
atf78 10-14-2002 09:50 PM

Nice :D Now all I need is a larger turbo and FMIC so I can buy it :(

Bastards! How's a guy supposed to save money?!

Veeery nice ;)
NC2.5RS 10-14-2002 10:31 PM

Dang, that is such a sweet hood. Its Kaminari, so the quality must be pretty damn good.
rayder 10-14-2002 10:39 PM

thanks guys. The fit and finish is superb. Bolts right on with absolutely no adjustments. I love the hood.. really sets the car off.
Leonardo 10-14-2002 11:05 PM

Do you have any weight comparisons?

It sould clear the GReddy IC pipes, righ? Since the pipe goes where the radiator canister is.

Think they can try it out on a car with the GReddy kt? Rob should havo no problem withthis I hope!

Would be a shame to buy this for it to be hitting pipes!

Leo:confused:
rayder 10-14-2002 11:40 PM

if it fits with stock, it will fit with thei hood. We will be weighing in soon. Possibly offering a street version (best fit, finish, and durability) and a race version. (purely lightweight and will need hoodpins) You do not need hood pins with the regular hood because of the reinforcment with aluminum and carbon kevlar.
WRX-ellent 10-15-2002 04:14 AM

I have to ask...I know that most of the CF hoods out there have some type of fitment issues, does this have those same fit & finish issues?

rayder 10-15-2002 04:49 AM

scroll up.
Evil Imports 10-15-2002 05:56 AM

i want one, but need my FMIC first, grrrrrr next month i guess

rayder 10-15-2002 11:14 AM

you must be thinking kamikazi or something.

you better do some research before you go around spreading false information.

How's the quality of Panoz? TRD? Rod Millen? Or how about PTeazer? Is their quality any good?

Because Kaminari makes parts for them too....

man there's alot of people here that have no idea what they are talking about, but act like they do.
decibel_dj 10-15-2002 11:35 AM

damn the close up pics really show off the hood. i thought it was a monster style when i saw the pic in the other thread but damn i wasnt expecting it too look so clean from the other angles..
rayder 10-15-2002 12:50 PM

Actually the main selling point is quality. Kaminari is more expensive than almost all other US manufactured ground effects. So you are wrong again.

You stated you "Kaminari's not known for making high quality stuff" - How did you come to this conclusion?

Too thin? LOL - What are you comparing this too? I don't know many other companies making handlaid fiberglass parts in the US with the same quality. If you are talking about urethane... of course it's thinner. It's HIGH PRESSURE urethane. Which is OEM grade material. It's stronger and lighter than any low pressure urethane that many other manufacturers use.

The only reason why you have to make a thick part is because the material you are using will not hold the shape. Which creates a heavier part.

...... I'm just saying there's some justification on why kits from the big jap tuners cost 2x as much as the Kaminari stuff.
personally if you compare the price of the big jap tuners you are mostly paging for the added prices for shipping to USA and the name itself.
Leonardo 10-15-2002 01:05 PM

The GReddy hit has a pipe that comes up where the coolant reservoar (sp?) and goes up and over the intake runners. My concern is that it might hit with the opening / lower part of the hood vent.

Also, where you see that the wiper fluid canister is, my tube rubs with the hood liner. Won't it rub with the hood?
rayder 10-15-2002 01:09 PM
that's part of the justification .. agreed... but most of kaminari's products are fiberglass as well... not the urethane a lot of the jap vendors use.

almost every Japanese part I have seen has been hand laid fiberglass... and VERY thin.

not to flame or fight with you but few jap manufactors sell ureathane body kits. the price they charge for 8oz hand laided fiberglass is equal to the price of the same component in ureathane. they over charge for the product even though the quality is great.

define thin most high quality fiberglass kits are 8oz hand laid many knock off kits use only 5-6oz total

okay ... point taken.. some fiberglass kits I've seen were flimsy (ie the MR2 and the older mustang kits). I spend too much time looking at SOJ kits which are all urethane. :) Anway... like I said... I'll shut up now. I did go through and deleted my posts though. I wasn't trying to pick fights or anything.

back on topic... your new hood is definitely the nicest thing out there right now. If I ever go FMIC, that's the way to go. How is the carbon fiber hood laid? I'd like a nice percentage of carbon to epoxy unlike some of the crappy ones I've seen around (*cough* procarparts.com *cough*)
rayder 10-15-2002 01:24 PM

I wasn't flaming the Japanese parts. They are thin to be light... my point was fiberglass doesn't have to be thick to be a quality piece.

I can't tell you how me make the carbon fiber parts... companies (seriously) have been trying to figure it out for years. Soem companies start their own glass shops and pull their molds, but the carbon fiber always stay here...

I can tell you this though. The resin/epoxy and bonding material we use is NOT off the shelf. No one can buy the stuff we are using. :)
Rebellion 10-15-2002 01:34 PM

sweet! if I could just justify the cost of the FMIC
Leonardo 10-15-2002 01:37 PM

Gentelmen, please excuse me but I have a question on the table and one other thing, please exuse me but try tu use Japanese instead of Jap. Some find it offensive.

Thanks,
Leo

Any word on a group buy for these hoods? I want one! Also does the carbon fiber hood have a clear coat on it? I am worried about rock chip damage here in Colorado.
rayder 10-15-2002 02:43 PM

the hood needs to be clearcoated for best finish. However, the gelcoat on the hood is actually stronger than clearcoat. It can be polished to a very nice finish, as mine is.

However, for the best FINISH we suggest clearcoating.
WRXThis 10-15-2002 03:42 PM

So I called Irvine Subaru to order and the 2 that they have are for Sema and they won't be selling them until after Sema. Where can I get one of these *now*??
rayder 10-15-2002 04:27 PM

it will be tough to get one right away. Everyone started ordering already. Vivid Racing has a order in production right now. You can call them and reserve one from the first batch.
2OHOH2WRX 10-15-2002 05:54 PM

A bit OT - where can I get your CF wing? Does anyone have a GB going for the wings?
WRXThis 10-15-2002 06:11 PM

Vivid Racing you say? Um...no, I hate that place.
krazedant 10-15-2002 06:17 PM

that is one sweeeeeet looking CF hood.....
motoxphil 10-15-2002 09:27 PM

As an owner of a Kaminari body kit I can assure you of its quality. I honestly have never seen carbon fiber of this quality. While there may be lighter versions out there, I have seen none that have matched the finish or fit.

I have tested their body kit to....well the needle was pegged at 140MPH. It held up great but my coner marker flew of. LOL!

No joke, I would be affraid that the body shop would make the hood look worse by clear coating it. I'll take mine unpainted please.

All I have to say is where is my darn FMI!

thanks Phil... it looks better on your car than mine.:p
Leonardo 10-16-2002 08:34 AM

Does the hood come standard with that cool TurboXS logo? ;)

WRXThis 10-16-2002 12:06 PM

Hey, I just noticed. Where are the washer sprayers mounted on this hood??
rayder 10-16-2002 01:08 PM

there are small indentions on the hood for you to drill out if you decide to install them back in the hood.

I personally have never put them in.... but I'm in California.
Leonardo 10-16-2002 01:23 PM

I would feel sorry for the poor bastard that is going to drill the hole and the bit runs from the indentation:o

Hope that poor bastard ain't me:eek:

Leo
rayder 10-16-2002 01:39 PM

lol - for the most parts it's pretty easy. Just go a little at a time...

most people put on aftermarket ones that look better.
motoxphil 10-16-2002 06:44 PM

Yeah, I want a set with the blue lights.

Looks like a fantastic hood from both the performance and the aesthetics perspectives. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks on a WR Blue color WRX. I know that at some point I'll want to upgrade my hood (right now using stock hood with Aqua vent since I have FMIC in place). And, regarding the comments about Kaminari quality being top-notch, that is what I hear from a number of different people, too. There were a couple of WRX cars on the Super Street NOPI Nationals Tour with Kaminari body kit pieces installed, looked really good in person.

GoodFinder :)
Leonardo 10-18-2002 08:46 AM

Bompus!

Any new pics:D ?
aspera 10-18-2002 08:57 PM

It looks so smoooooth. The WRX looks like a different car without a hoodscoop. Does Kaminari have matching carbon widebody fenders or a bumpercap?
aspera 10-22-2002 01:35 AM

bump for people who missed this thread
decibel_dj 10-22-2002 11:27 AM

any updates on the hood?
