Infineon Sports car or Stock car course?

I'm always up for GT4 challenges! :D
MattNJ2.8 01-14-2006 08:05 PM

Hmmm I'll challenge you guys when I get farther... only 25% done so far :disco:
GarySheehan 01-14-2006 08:40 PM

I think I've only got 14% done. But I've got 80 Gold licenses :)

One of my favorite competitions at Sears was running the stock Miata for fastest laptime.

sports car course...

im gunning for a 1.05

i did the 1.06's with and without the steering wheel, it's easier without though!

another fun course in the LMP/GTP cars is apricott hill, it actually seems like the cars "have" downforce like a real lmp/gtp car....

im in the 58's around there....

i finally got a logitech wheel and was really surprised to find out how much faster my times were with the controller. its a lot easier to counter steer a slide with it because it makes the steering so much quicker.

which tires were you setting those lap times on?

I don't have the patience for that. I alway end up getting within .009 seconds. And then get frustrated and give up. Usually because it takes me 15 minutes to whittle those times down.

The coffe breaks are a PITA!
REX8 01-16-2006 12:40 PM

I'm 67% done. Just ran a 1:05 with the Toyota, on the controller. Its significantly harder to drive on the wheel, although I use the wheel 95% of the time. The car responds much differently on the wheel.

Jump in the F GT car and tell me what you get.
Rallitek.com 01-16-2006 02:26 PM

oops... I'm 99.6% done. All I have to do is do two more driving missions. ;) Formula GT car is the way to go :D

I only use the Logitech DFP. The wheel feels very natural to me. I don't have a problem with countersteering, but I DO countersteer very quickly, to the point to where Joel and another buddy (that does a lot of track driving) were shocked. The wheel makes a REALLY loud high pitched whine when I throw in opposite lock. I think a lot of it has to do with how stable my pedal and wheel setup is, so that I can make fast inputs like that.

Jack 01-17-2006 08:57 AM

You guys are good, getting 1.05's or 1.06's. I tried this last night with the F1 car and with the Nissan using NOS and super softs. 1 lap warm up, 1 lap timed run, tires then spent. Can't get into even 1.15. Oh well......back to driving missions.

CB,

It was GT Mode, Sears Point Sports Car track. Car is the Mazda MX5 Miata 1800 RS (NB, J) '04. We just bought them new at the Mazda store and put them on the track with no tweaks and no drivers aids, manual transmission.

My fastest was a 1:52.122.

Just so you are aware, the car is very twitchy because it has a lot of body roll. The reason I like this car a lot is because you really have to drive the car by feel (with the DFP, of course). Too much yaw and your laptime goes down the toilet.

Have fun!

Yeah, my setup allows the same inputs, and the wheel just screams when you go countersteer quickly.

For a good challenge, try seeing how fast you can make it around the Nurburgring in an F1 car. I had 3 major offs and still managed a 5:43 (iirc).
Element Tuning 01-17-2006 07:14 PM

Chad,

My wife hates you because I spent all night trying to match your time. That time is just sick! The best I could do was in the F1 at a lap time of 1:09.41.

I could go a little faster if I could nail those first two turns after the main straight and if I setup the car a little better.....just like in real life ;)

gt4 times
ok, I'll bite.. I just finished the little Infineon challenge, with the Toyota Minolta 88C-V Group C car on Racing Slicks (RS) with a time of 1:07.691.. That's in GT mode, in Arcade with super stickies I can dip into 1:06s when -10% weight and +20% power, but it's a 1 in 20 lap, I can't do it consistently yet.

As far as real world comparision. I think there was a thread about that a while back, from Top Gear of all places trying to put that to rest.. I still find it a good place to look to when I'm going to a track the first time. I played Forza Motorsports (Cause it's got Road Atlanta) alot before I drove there and it helped a little bit..

I've done 1:51's on Toyo RA1's at Infineon in USTCC trim. The real trick would be trying to figure out how to upgrade a WRX to make it similar.

Considering I've done 1:52's in a bone stock '04 Miata in the game, I'd say game pace is a bit faster than real life.

I can't believe how consistently fast you are....you must be a race car driver or something ;)

I'm a little quicker in the Arcade mode:

Polyphany F1 1.64
Toyota Minolta 1.67

I can only hit these times once in a while.

You're right though the GTP car is so much easier to drive. The F1 machine is "twitchy" and the rear end will snap out unexpectedly.

theicewall 01-21-2006 06:22 PM

I love El Capitan too. My favorite thing about it is the compensation for dynamic understeer while coming over the top of the crest and others like the one that you photographed. Floor it, floor it, floor it, coming up hill jam brake and turn wheel start to drift over the crest, neutralize and understeer until the front end comes back down and then continue on to the next one... its a beautiful thing when you get it right and can practically take it all out without slamming into the wall.

Bonzo 01-21-2006 09:42 PM

It would be really cool if you guys were into pc sims, specifically rFactor.

Posting lap times, sharing setups, hot lapping, showing hot lap replays and full races, statistics galore plus so much more including every type of car circling every track in the world is just a click away. This can all be done online bangin doors with your buddy/enemy too:p

I'm no racer (I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express) but in my last nights Formula3 league race which consists of 2, 30 minute sprints at Mid Ohio my total elapsed time was separated by less than a half a second. 30.26.941 and 30.26.469. I was guessing race two was going to be much faster after tuning out some late race front end tire wear push.

It's time to cross over to the dark/pc side.

Easy, maybe not quick:

Find the car you want to unlock from here: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/driving/granturismo4/hints.html

Complete the race series with a car (modified or not) that kills the competition. Not so fun this way, but it gets the job done. :p If it's an endurance race, run it in B-spec mode with the AI driving for a few hours while you sleep and/or work.

Gary,

I think what i originally did, was to do the one mercedes challenge, using that older mercedes squarebodystyle.. (i think its mercedes DTM)...

if you win all the races, which you can do pretty easily, you get the mercedes GTR (that flipped at le mans LOL)....

you can immediately sell it for like 800 or 1 million....do that like 4 times....
then get a good lmp car (the pescarolo) and let your bspec run the long races for you, iwth your screen off...just let it run...and youll rack up some points...

once i got all of the prototypes, i really just do laps now, i stopped trying to complete the game...

hope this helps... if i could just copy my memory card for you i would.
