My new JDM V7 wheels

I just bought these jdm 7s today. Little worn re070s but grips like crazy. Ive moved from stock 205 16 inchers to these. 225/45zr17 potenza re070.
the grip is just wow.... no words can explain it.

THUMBS UP!
No matter how many times I see those wheels, I still love them. I wish I got an '04 STi just so I could use those wheels. ;[

They are the greatest wheels subaru ever has offered hands down - better than most aftermarket too - Damn I want some....maybe next spring - what I would love to do is get the silver jdm ones found on the non-sti but no one seems to import those to the states for some reason - thumbs up man - wrb on gold = teh hotness (because we have it)

v7's... awesome. i ran my course with them... b ut silver on gold doesn't work. works great for blue though!!

Love the wheels and your car. I want those wheels sooo bad!
| txl146 | 08-07-2005 12:01 AM |
very nice... I love RE070's on my WRX, but I am thinking about getting lighter tires next time I'm shopping for new tires. RE070 is about 2-3 lbs heavier than some of the tires that are considered 'light'.
| SpikeMike | 08-07-2005 12:30 AM |
i got my rims and tires off a member here. I love the RE070s they grip like hell but what do i know... this is the first time ive been on 225/45 tires... yea when i was putting the wheels on damn it was heavy... i can feel the weight but the sidewalls are like rock man... handles like nuts  .
I love my v7s man its a perfect fit.

yea any good tires suggestions? Im probably leaning towards the yokohama es100s or the falken 512. Im lookin for some sorta cheap performance tires.
And how come i never see the potenza re070s for sale on tirerack or anywhere else? were they made specifically for the STi or what?

I've heard some good reviews on the Hankook RS2's, and some pretty good ones on the Falken Azenis Sport rt615.
| SpikeMike | 08-08-2005 04:19 AM |
awesome yea ive been having my eyes on the hankook rs2... and anyone experience a clunking sound when the wheels are fully locked and moving... for instance parking or doing a 3 point turn... i never had it before but now i do with the jdm v7s... i kno the offset is 38 correct? and the width is 7.5? Anyone experience this or is this normal... im guessing its the tire rubbing against the inside of the fender plastic.

I have some JDM's for sale on Ebay.....

fully locked and moving?
If you lock one set of tires via the handbrake youre gonna activate the LS center diff and it kinda clunks.
Offset for these wheels is +53mm(17x7.5" is correct). +38 is not a Subaru-friendly offset.

I think I see what you meant. You meant wheels turned to full lock and youre getting a clunk. Sounds like a rub but why those wheels/tires would be rubbing on your car is a mystery. Thats an ideal wheel/tire for your car. I'd check the the wheel liners for rub marks.

yea i didnt think id have issues but i guess its ok. i try not to turn the wheel all the way when i park. gotta check if its rubbing if it is then i guess im gonna just cut some plastic

I love my V7s, all you need to do is get them static balanced, get rid of those external weights.

Sorry to threadjack, but I'm selling a set in SoCal with Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires. PM me if any of you are interested. I'm willing to ship and accept paypal.

Hey Mike did I see you at the In-n-Out meet on thursday in Marina Del Rey? Make sure you require sticky weights in addition to static balancing.

| beeferino | 09-27-2005 12:13 PM |
Those are sweet rims! Congratulatons man, I know what it's like to finally get something you want. Been waiting 12 years to get my WRX!
A quick question to any of the guys here: What do you think of wheel spacers? I'm thinking of getting a 5mm spacer to bring my offset from +48 to +43. Traditionally I don't like the idea, but I want to find out for sure if it does more harm than good.

| BraveUlysses | 09-27-2005 01:51 PM |
Large spacers can put more stress on your wheel bearings, but 5mm is pretty small, so you should be fine. You'll get wider track width from doing it, but it may not yield any tangible handling benefits.
| subieworx | 09-27-2005 02:10 PM |
I like the look of them, but they are sooooo heavy. I don;t get why everyone always bashes Rotas for being heavy when these things weigh a good 5-6 lbs more per wheel.
| beeferino | 09-27-2005 02:30 PM |
Thanks, BraveUlysses! I was reading that the spacers make it tough to centre the wheel on the hub and that Subaru lug bolts are notoriously short. Just curious to find out who here's running on wheel spacers. I'm not. For now, at least.
I guess the spacers would enable me to get larger brakes.
Heard about these rims being notoriously heavy too. But dang! They look good! Why don't wheel manufacturers quote the second polar moment of area as well as the weight? The distribution of weight on the wheel is just as important as how heavy it is.

They are lighter than my formels I had..
I believe its 18.5 which isn't bad...They are not 20+lbs.

they are pretty heavy though i think mainly because of the re070s those sidewalls are like iron man so solid and so heavy... but a very good performing tire... so dreamy :o
