Rally New York aiming for WRC status! part 2
You said:

I'm sure the FiA would gladly provide an oversight crew to aid in design/logistics/structure.

I say: the FIA stewards/observers do not aid in design/logistics/structure. They observe and determine whether the event meets the criteria for inclusion, and what needs to be improved.

The aid in design/logistics/structure comes from other organizers, the FIA doesn't have anything to do with it, and certainly does not provide it. You pay, they come.

That's what I meant.
That's not really how it works. The FIA don't have a organizing group.
I meant that The FiA has standards for route structure, miles, safety, etc. via it's sporting regulations. Of course the FiA does not actully provide the inputs of D/L/S, that is left to the organizer. It is at the risk of the organizer to put on the event within the standards. The organizer and stewards are responsible make the changes within regs, I know this, as well as you.

See this particular PDF for an example, note the wording on page 9.

I know that in the Swedish rally for that matter, the FiA observers were keen to enforce spectator safety, and time and time again, Christina Lundqvist, clerk of course, kept hammering home the idea of spectator pens (for example) to ensure the FiA keeps the Swedish Rally on the calender. The FiA made the rules, it was up to the organizer to meet them.

I'm not getting into all the questions here, but if they have it, I will come.

WRC NY has a certain ring to it, don'tcha think? :D
Might be interesting if it happens, but I don't know what the terrian is like around that area. I would watch it on TV, but not go there... I've always felt going to a rally is like watching a skyscraper go up with only a view of 1/4 of the bottom floor. You see things happen, but you don't often see interesting things happen.

Also, if it happens, money says there is at least 1 death (crowd most likely).
this is why DVD recorders and Digital TV were invented!
go watch rally...
see, smell, hear, experience the cars
record event and watch when you get back!

^^^ Totally. When I went to the USGP a few years back I had no f'in idea what was going on in the race, but it was amazing just to be there.
I very much appreciate what Ivan does for rally in our area, and Rally NY is a great event. If you really want to see WRC come to Rally NY start helping now. Sign up to work the spring event, or better yet talk to Ivan about helping to organize it - he starts putting it together months before the events. At the very least, treat it like it already is WRC and come watch it - he'll need thousands of spectators to show that the event can handle the tens of thousands of spectators who will show for a WRC event.

Alex
Alex you are right on the money. I have been a volunteer worker at every Rally NY event since 2001. If we want rally to survive and thrive in our area of the country, we need to support it. Going and watching a rally is nice, but if everyone did that [instead of working] there couldn't be an event. As Rally New York gets bigger and bigger, they need more workers and marshals. Being part of the events from a workers perspective is very rewarding. You are an important part of the bigger picture and a true contributor. Get involved and help make it all grow!

On a final note, maybe someday this will become a round in the WRC calendar. But if it doesn't, the extra effort and support we provide will only bolster rallying in our community and raise the level of professionalism in the US for the sport we all love. Lets not speculate on why this might not materialize. That serves no purpose. Let's move forward and see where we can go with this.
