Jamie,
Do you do all the work by yourself?
Oh, do us (the Motorsports forum) a big favor and weigh one of the stock front seats, please. Pretty please. :D
Good Luck!

thus far yep...
my mechanic pal Mike and I have done all of the work on the car..
he handles the heavy stuff (drilling the seat rails, mangling them into place, wiring up the elec. stuff)
and i jump in there as best i can... removed steering wheel, airbag, roof rails, repaired trim, swapped bumpers, lights etc.
it's not all that hard once u figure out how the stuff comes apart :D
seats...
which one do you want me to weigh?
the drivers side is DECIDEDLY heavier than the pass side.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the extra weight in the driver side. Driver side please. I need to figure out if it's worth the price to lose the extra weight in my car. I'm sure many other STX drivers will be interested as well.
Thanks Jamie. Best of Luck this year.

Glad to see the car is starting to take shape. Hang in there, you'll be ready for the season in no time.
I'm gonna try to make it to Susquehannock Trails and Ojibwe Forests this year. I'll definitely be at LSPR again. Hope to see you kickin' butt a couple of different times this year!
Good luck!

Found in older posts:
"the yellow car did sell...
it's going to Chicago... for about that price
new owner is Mike Anson - rally rookie but he can drive
he'll be fine!
that car would so rock in Gp2....
and yeah i think i did well against Mark Durley in his Focus...
the P car likely could have won Gp2 last year (region)
this is true....
it's going to be an excellent car for Mike!
congrats to him!!!

the steering wheel install looks great, but too bad you lose your cruise control capablilities (uneeded in a rally car, i know). So besides losing cruise control and air bag, you also lose the turn signal cancel, right? How hard is the Momo/Sparco adapter to put on? Does it need to be welded, or does it screw right on? Im curious since I would like to be able to swap back to stock if I happened to change it out. IMO, the stock wheel is too difficult to use in performance driving, autoX, etc... So im looking for a smaller radius. What size is that Sparco?
thanks

yep i got the sparco wrx seat brackets.
they worked well although one of them was crooked from the factory and took mass muscle to get it bolted down into the car... shame it has to come back out in a day or 2 for the cage work!!!
:D
You should really ditch the roof rails.

not permitted per the rules as the roof rails were not a factory option... they are standard on all wrx wagons, thus they remain. :)

Yes you lose cruise and turn signal cancel - also horn (have to re wire)
the adapter is cake to put in... just look at the photos...
took me 15 min tops....the MOMO hub adapter slips right into place. no welding needed.
the sparco colour2 steering wheel is a 350mm diameter...
fwiw?
in my RS i have the same set up... yet i've retained cruise, horn and turn signal cancels. i had someone machine the hell out of the hub to work though and it was a LOT of work to get it right.
cheers all, thanks for the support!

thanks for the info and good luck with it. I expect to see it sideways in alot of pictures now!!! hope you make it to STPR so I can see it in action. One question about the radio systems used in prorally. What radios are used when drivers talk to their service park crew? Just curious, cause I want to pick up a scanner to monitor all the action.

we use 2 way hand helds...
some of the manufacture teams use items which are much more sophisticated... not sure exactly what radio band they're on.

Great story brewing Subiegal!
One question: Does the lower grill impede airflow, which may lead to overheating and/or loss of pressured air into the air intake? I really want to protect my radiator, but have had bad experiences with aftermarket grills and overheating on other cars.
One comment: Now I truly understand why post-production paint jobs are never as good as the original manufacturer's-unless all the plastic bits are removed before the paint gets baked.
I'm very jealous btw....

the lower mesh grill?
oh i doubt that... i'm just putting it on to keep random bits from impaling the radiator... not that it will stop a *cough* stump *cough* but it may help somewhat while allowing air to pass through for cooling purposes...
:)
thanks for the compliments.

trashed radiators are a good way to retire from a competition. Im surprised there arent some better way to protect them from the common obstacle or low speed 1/4 angle shot.

Looks very good.. but doesn't ther roll cage get welded in first? Or are you going to use a bolt on cage? :)
| Subie Gal | 02-06-2003 11:17 AM |
spent a good portion of last night removing the center console, the complete dash (down to the wiring harness and support beam) and any other bits from the car...
the welding of the cage is in progress as of today!
hopefully by mon/tues we'll be finished.
i'll keep you all posted....
per the new scca rules, it's my understanding that bolt in cages are not legal.... the cage rules are very, very specific.
:)

FIA or SCCA?

Are you building an FIA or an SCCA-spec cage?
The memos leading up to this year's rule changes suggesting that FIA spec cages would be subject to the no-bolt-in-extra-gussets rules, but as far as I see, none of those memos made it into the '03 rulebook, which just says, "if if's FIA, it's good"
The FIA cage spec is generally tons more flexible than the SCCA spec.
