rare or different shift knob part 1

rare or different shift knob
I have been searching for a shift knob for a 03 WRX, I want something different but cannot find anything. I like the ARC, but it has been done and are easliy available. Please help me out with suggestions and maybe a place I can get one. I might have to try super autobacs when I go home for christmas. I though maybe the EDM Ti one too. And correct me if I am wrong but the thread pattern is 10x1.25 right?
DjRez4 12-19-2005 07:30 PM

If I may make a suggestion:

A shift knob is one of the parts through which you interact with the car. Rather than worry about being different, perhaps you should consider the function and feel of the shiftknob.
car_cursed 12-19-2005 07:36 PM

that is why I am looking for something that is both. this is going to be a track beast with show car looks.
FujiFast 12-19-2005 07:57 PM

Prova shift knob...best shift knob on the market IMO, and I've had a few in my time: Cusco, HKS, Legacy GT, couple STi's, Perrin, Kartboy, ARC, Spoon, Mugen, Trust, and I'm sure a few more that I've forgotten with my Hondas and now Suby. Mated to the Kartboy SS, and tapped about 1/2" deeper, the Prova makes shifting easy and notchy.

I had this knob I picked up from Tokyo, it was pretty sweet...

Comes in 5 and 6-speed versions :)

i have the STI Special Edition Petter Solberg from subydude and its awesome. Dont know that many people that ahve it and its definitely the nicest shift knob ive ever had.
sandwi54 12-20-2005 01:03 AM

wow the prova knob is really expensive, but the quality looks really good though.
MartinD 12-20-2005 01:32 AM

LGT...best shift knob evAr :)
ControlFreak 12-20-2005 06:26 AM

The prodrive knob is sweet.. I have it in black in my car.. nice feel great look.

Gets super cold in the winter though ;)
Siper2 12-20-2005 08:07 AM

Yeah that's the problem... I have a Kartboy Knuckleball (silver), and it's cool but you can only use it in the spring and fall. Summer it scalds your skin off, and winter it'll freeze your hand to the knob for a month. :D

I like the OE knob in my RS. Though the new Legacy GT knob is pretty nice-looking, and I'm still trying to find a used one... People nab 'em up!

This is the shift knob I've had for the last four years. Its the STI WRC titanium:

Its very expensive but it feels better than any other shift knob plus its pretty rare.

+1 on both of his comments my prodrive knob feels colder than an ice cube in the winter. Love it though

Are there any sweet shift knobs that arent some type of alloy/metal. I live in the damned arctic circle.....
bobby d 12-20-2005 10:09 AM

That looks like a VooDoo knob to me. VooDoo is the best feeling shift knob I have ever used.

The Prova knob mentioned earlier in this thread is made of Duracon. It will not heat up and burn your hand even in direct sunlight and will not turn into an ice cube during the winter!
Gr8wall 12-20-2005 12:58 PM

i have the impul shift konb, the other member who has it is jdm addict. its nicely weighted but it burns in direct sunlight and is ice cold now. but none the less pretty rare i guess. these are for skylines but our cars have the same thread pattern. i dont have a pic of it but you can search for the pic. really simple since impul is rare.

That or knobs made of Delrin (which I think is the same thing, or very similar). I have my Prodrive Group-N which is made of Delrin and I absolutely love it. It is pretty rare and a bit expensive though.

There are Greddy and HKS knobs are made of delrin, and they look pretty cool too.

Here's the Greddy superlight knob:

I had my friend make me exactly what I wanted on his lathe. That is the way to go for something unique. Have yet to see anyone with a knob like mine. It's made of Delrin which is pretty cool as well.

Go to http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/ and check out their selection. I have the chromed aluminum weighted knob, and love it. It's heavy, smooth, and you don't see them on every Rex you run into like some of the Momo knobs.

the s204 knobs looks identical to the stock 05 STI. They just have sick red letters.....which I really want now
garie 12-31-2005 05:15 AM

I used to use the stock wrx knob, then swapped that out for a momo race air leather, then recently switched that for a Densport garage, DSG ver. 1 knob.

It looks like a light bulb and it has a great shape for shifting. They have a thread in the vendors/interior section

I liked my momo alot but eventually didn't like the "sphere shape", although it is symetrical its not the best shape for shifting imo....plus it sat too low w/ my kartboy short shifter.

my new dsg knob sits slightly higher, giving me a better angle when shifting.
Its alot lighter than the heavy momo but I'm getting used to the new feel and I lik eit
PeteDucati 12-31-2005 08:17 AM

http://www.ltbmotorsports.com/shiftknob.html This place hooked me up good regarding my MOMO steering wheel and hub.. they get the stuff out to you FAST. They've got a nice selection of MOMO knobs, too, probably 50 different styles.
adam555 12-31-2005 12:49 PM

I made my own in pottery class. Its the Finnish flag, not a cross. Works pretty well too.

that "white dildo one" is mrfairlady's or something. Ive seen it in person and is really nice, maybe a bit big for my taste, but id take it, plus ive never seen one before.

My kartboy isnt rare at all but feels better than any other knob ive driven...I had the momo subaru one and it was just waaay to big. This feels real nice and looks to be very similar to the wrc titanium knob someone already posted.
