Roof Scop...Yes or No?

I found this product on fastwrx.com and was wondering if anyone had it on their car. From the picture I think it looks really good, however I was wondering if it would get ripped off at high speeds.(It is a fake roof scoop so in order to make it functional I would need to cut a hole in my roof and I'm not willing to do that.)It is installed with one screw and 3m adhesive. It is Approximately 2" high x 10.5" wide x 13" long.
I was wondering what everyone thought of it, I personally like it but....

I'm not really one for adding something that isn't functional, I'm more of a what can I take off kind of guy. It might look cool though if you want something to balance out your hood scoop. The paint there doesn't seem to match and seems to fit a little loose. Any other pics?

I would have to say no. It just looks to me like there is a snorkel on the top. But as long as you like it who cares?

It shouldn't come off at high speed because i belive there's a small openning at the back of the scoop...it would look really nice but you might as well make it functional.

Non-functional - no... maybe if it's your thing...
functional - DEFINATELY YES!!!:D
I bought a RA style roof vent for my baby but totalled the car before I got to install it.

You would have to be issued a ticket from ricecop.com if you had that thing on your car.

Well, at least it's something a little different looking than the "normal" one. I am DYING to get a roof scoop on my car (and make it functional, as I want to be able to get more air in the car during the summer time!!!) However, I have yet to see a roof scoop that I like. I think I'm going to have to try and build one myself :( I saw one that looked awesome on an RS that was modified by it's owner, but that was the only one.

Wow - tough crowd tough crowd. One person starts with the rice bit then you all turn into this:

I think the starter of the thread understands now that the majority of you feel it is rice. I'm not willing to get heated over it, but from a perspective that I would like to install one of these down the road, why must I also not have A/C? I suppose all people with sun/moon roof's must also remove the a/c or else they're ricin it up too? It's not okay to put the windows down on a nice afternoon or evening, open up the roof scoop and feel the air rushing through the car and STILL have the ability to survive on a 105+ degree summer day sitting in traffic?
I know my personal intentions are to eventually turn my car into a track-only car, so, yes, most likely the a/c will be removed at some point, and it'll sure be nice to get some more air circulating in the cabin. But I think you guys have sufficiently beat the horse, brought it back to life, and then promptly suffocated it again with the rice comments ;)

Can't see the backside of the roof vent you posted. But if you buy a WRC style roof vent, it will stay safely with one screw and some 3M stuff. because the backside of WRC style vent have a opening
part to let the air go through.
part to let the air go through.

a buddy has one on his car (funcional) and i think it kicks ass! you can't imagine how much more air pours inside the cab with the duct and everything. anything helps when it's 90+ outside and you are wearing a bigass helmet!

So,
I have an RS, and my hood scoop isn't functional. Does that make me a *******? I think not, I think this roof scoop would look awesome, i'ts not as big as the other ones i've seen around. Get it!

If you want one PLEASE install it for the function and not for the look. It's tacky if it's installed without a function. You'll just be like those people installing tape on hood pins on their hoods.

I have now looked into making it functional if I get it, but I have heard people having problems installing moonroofs because of a brace that protects you in case of a rollover. Would this be a problem if I wanted to make it a functional scoop or not???

No, and if you read enough comments about the moon roof, I think you will find that most people feel the "brace" that gets cut is flimsy as all hell. There IS a big brace across the roof line, but the install of a roof scoop will in no way come NEAR this. Look at the install of somebody else's roof scoop and you will see it only requires cutting in the region of where your two from "dome" lights are (by the rear-view mirror) - that's what needs to be replaced, basically.

That scoop is pretty ricey, especially if you put it in without making it functional. For one thing, you have air conditioning. But the ONLY reason anyone should ever put that on a WRX is if it doesn't have air conditioning (which is unlikely, unless you personally took it out to save weight or something) or if you do a lot of autocrossing or rallying in a hot area where you'll need fresh air without using the air conditioner while pushing the engine.
| whiplash306 | 01-02-2004 10:41 PM |
I think the roof scoop is SWEET....I've wanted one since I first purchased my STi. The only one I've seen is from japanparts.com for like around $450.00, which is crazy. From what I know, it's only the scoop. If anyone has info on where to find a complete kit, including all the parts, mounting hardware, etc., please post it. I agree though, if it's not functional, it cheapens the look of the car. However, if it's functional, in my opinion, it enhances the uniqueness of the car.
| WRXMikeH | 01-03-2004 01:05 AM |
I say unless you take out your AC and have lexan windows, you shouldn't have a roof scoop. It just looks out of place on a street car, IMO. People say that about the hood scoop too though

It is a STi scoop and the vent opeing is made by Primative Enterprises. I made the interior directional vent myself. I still have my A/C but find myself using the vent more than the A/C. Especially when AutoCrossing or Road Racing. But, everybody has their opinions.

I wouldn't IMO, but if you do.. U are gonna need other body mods to keep up with the look...
If you put the scoop on a stock looking Rex, it would look rediculous.

Agreed however, I always wondered if it would work if you installed the actual jdm roof vent then put the roof scoop over it and used it as a cover. That would be pimp.
