Side Turnlights

that's what they're really called.

subydude is a ripoff.(not all the time, just in this particular case. i'm down with DPT, yeah you know me.)

japanparts for the win.

that is all.
03twrx 07-13-2006 02:35 AM

No, they're actually called teh awsomeness! Can't wait to see them on. Will you be cutting yourself? Do you need to order anything else to make em work? I'd actually like to know the total cost when you're done.
99subi 07-13-2006 02:38 AM

i belive he already had the frosted ones on the car, he is just changing them up
Handsdown 07-13-2006 02:40 AM

99subi is right - i had frost colored ones for a year and a half about, you can see them on most of my pictures. you need a plug and wires... or just two small little female disconnects, but basically they come with bulbs and everything. i actually used the plug from the front sidemarkers, you could even use the bulb from the sidemarkers as well and just extend the wires, but in order to make it flash i grounded it through the signal bulb.

i had attempted to sharpie the frost ones orange, it worked. but you can tell they're not genuine because the housings on the frost ones are white, and the JDM amber have black housings. now that the frost ones are off the car i just cleaned them right up with some rubbing alcohol and they're frosty again:D

dremel- $45
bank overdraft charge- $30
sideturnlamps- $42 from japan/$65 from subydude
some wire- $2.95

it gets expensive... and you have to make sure you don't screw up your fenders.

but it's oh so worth it. they're on now but i'm not posting pictures of my car until i finish my headlight project.
9vapors 07-13-2006 02:43 AM

yep, just get that template from scoobymods, or search here, makes it simple to do...
Awesome, I love the amber too.
03twrx 07-13-2006 02:44 AM

$30.00 huh. So you too are a victim of Bank of America.
Handsdown 07-13-2006 02:45 AM

h_p 07-13-2006 02:45 AM

Handsdown 07-13-2006 02:46 AM

03twrx 07-13-2006 03:06 AM

Are they HID's? Sorry, don't know much about lights.
Handsdown 07-13-2006 03:07 AM
Are they HID's?
no but the H7s can be fairly easily converted to use a D2S OEM hid setup with a simple adapter plate... and with great success too(sharp cutoff, hardly any hotspotting)

click my laughing face, i was gonna be sneaky but i want people to see my plans.
03twrx 07-13-2006 03:09 AM

Everyone is a ripoff on them now. Its not just Subydude. I bought mine from SD when they were selling for 30 bucks and some change about a year and a half ago.
MartinD 07-13-2006 08:33 AM

Charlie - can you order the clear sidemarkers from them as well?
Handsdown 07-13-2006 09:04 AM
Charlie - can you order the clear sidemarkers from them as well?
will that template work for the wagons? only using the door jam and wheel well for reference...
Handsdown 07-14-2006 01:59 AM
will that template work for the wagons? only using the door jam and wheel well for reference...
i have seen posts by people saying they used it on the wagon and they seem to have gotten good results, however I can only urge you to measure many times and make a template with tape over the area you are going to cut... step back from the car to size it up several times. when you're cutting, just take it nice and easy, don't rush it and everything will go fine.
Alaskan_awd 07-14-2006 02:14 AM

Has any one put these on an 06 yet, or maybe an 06 wagon even? I am thinking about doing this but am afraid to modify the body, give me a month or two :p
NewShockerGuy 07-14-2006 03:33 AM

Side markers FTW!!
Here's mine!

So easy to install and changes the look of the car too!

Love them!

How big of a whole did you have to cut into the fender? Did you have to remove the fender?

Nice work dude, looking good!

don't be afraid!
:-)
Handsdown 07-14-2006 04:17 PM

you don't have to remove the fender. since the fender is so spongily soft and bends so easily, it might be easier to remove it, but i found that it never bent out of shape and was easy to work with and wire up all with it on the car.
"B" 07-14-2006 05:02 PM

so people do this for looks? I've always been confused as to why people would add these.
Handsdown 07-14-2006 05:53 PM

looks/visability/safety

i've had lots of people nearly merge into my lane at night(even with a white car) without them, but never when they're on.
Alaskan_awd 07-14-2006 06:14 PM

Does modifying the body in that way lower the value of the car at all?
Handsdown 07-14-2006 06:59 PM

yes, ridiculously much.

unless the buyer doesn't know/doesn't care/likes it
"B" 07-14-2006 07:01 PM

Ah, well as long as safety is part of it and you're happy with it then I'm all for it :). I guess I'm not really into these because I came from a car with them OEM + they were much better looking IMO. I loved how they were recessed into the fender a little more than these, plus they were cleared. I'd def go for side blinkers for the impreza if they looked like these:

has anyone ordered the amber side-light markers from this place before?

http://www.boomplustoys.net/jdm_impreza.shtml

they sell it only for $22 plus shipping.. wonderin if its real oem jdm
Lazyxturb0 07-22-2006 09:38 AM

nobody knows...?
NewShockerGuy 07-22-2006 11:19 PM
What cutting bit/accessory did you use with your dremel?
Reinforced cutting disc, and a normal "smaller" cutting discs...
Then I used the round metal grinding bit and I also used the wood sanding bit...

It got to the point where I was using about 6 different bits back and forth...but the end outcome is an exact fit of the sidemarker... I didn't even need silocone to hold it in place, I only used a bead of silcone to keep the WEATHER OUT :-)
