Skyline Tails Conversion part 1

Skyline Tails Conversion
Has anyone ever though of putting some R34 tails on the rear of their car? If so, Pics :disco:
MattDell 09-12-2004 10:43 PM

No, that would be retarded.

MB38 09-12-2004 10:46 PM

You don't drive a Skyline.
Rogue3000 09-12-2004 10:48 PM

actually yea, there's a guy on the vividracing forums (okay i know most of you don't like vivid) named Parrothead...he was actually pretty serious about it, and if i'm not mistaken, still plans on it. he did discover however that if he were to use the actual tails from an R34, they wouldn't fit (too large) so he might do R33...still cool IMO
BoostdScubaru 09-12-2004 10:48 PM

have considered myself... dont ask these douschebags though if its not JDM they are going to cry and moan about it... very few of them have an open mind for show cars.... they think you should get some HELLA lights and go rally it.... only to destroy the car... which isnt a rally car.. only inspired by one... i say do it... would look great.. especially if its what you want...
BHawk 09-12-2004 11:19 PM

It's your car do what ever you want. But, may I suggest that it might be easier to use something other than Skyline tails to get the same effect. That way you wouldn't have to spend so much money and it wouldn't be as blatant as using actual Skyline tails.
Sasco 09-13-2004 12:09 AM
You don't drive a Skyline.
I never said I did
MB38 09-13-2004 12:15 AM

Never said that you said you did.

I'm just giving you ****, don't worry. It is your car, and if you want to... I'd like to see how it turned out. Custom body work is always way cool. I just like ribbing people.
iofdetiger 09-13-2004 12:17 AM

put some malibu lights on there.
brazymstrp 09-13-2004 12:34 AM
put some malibu lights on there.
USDA Grade A, skyline
128d 09-13-2004 12:36 AM

Go for it. Don't worrie about what other people say. It would be very diffrent.
BritneySpears 09-13-2004 12:48 AM

very different, and retarded.
saar 09-13-2004 02:59 AM

Might as well throw in some JDM ITR headlights w/Audi TT sideskirts....
Sasco 09-13-2004 10:18 AM

I guess its bad to be different
ptsmalls 09-13-2004 10:24 AM

I think the R33's would look awesome....I like the whole headlight/taillight conversion. Looks badass. If anyone could photoshop them on there go for it.
quentinberg007 09-13-2004 10:38 AM

I honestly don't think it will fit the contours of a car. I'm assuming is is going on a GD, rather than a GC. A GC might be able to pull it off, but on a new age, it is going to look like someone slapped some **** together, IMO.

Good luck getting that to fit on the rear of a WRX.

~~Quentin
vtecTHIS 09-13-2004 10:56 AM

they look good on the back of 4th gen preludes, like they belong there, other than that i don't think they fit our cars. but i am def not knocking the idea, stuff like that is cool if done right
ptsmalls 09-13-2004 11:14 AM

It would def. be tough to get them to fit nicely on a wrx but a gc body would be easier, you could even do a r32 tail setup that would fit nicely.
MikalsWRX 09-13-2004 11:18 AM

I wanna do the school bus tail lights. So when i stop a big stop sign comes out by the the door :D Actuall do what you want Its you car. I put an escort fromt bumper on a ford probe. Cant get any crazier then that. Good luck and show some pics. :D Mikal
PoopRSkupe 09-13-2004 12:58 PM

the impala lights kinda look like skyline tails...
dead-eye 09-13-2004 06:16 PM

Go ahead and do it. I actually thought about doing the same thing w/R33 taillights on my GC8 but decided to spend the money on other upgrades. I saw a bright yellow lexus SC400 with Supra taillights today and it looked pretty good even with the big aluminum spoiler. Custom bodywork is always cool as long as it's done well. It also helps if you've got the performance to back up the looks.
N'CTRL 09-13-2004 06:42 PM
the impala lights kinda look like skyline tails...
Ya, you might as well get Impala or Corvette lights. I mean, they do give the same look and like BoostdScubaru you wouldn't be JDM'ing your car out like most people here did. I mean, that is if you weren't trying to make the car a JDM Nissan....or um...hrm.
mr. m 09-13-2004 07:59 PM
only to destroy the car... which isnt a rally car.. only inspired by one...
no, i would say the rally car is inspired by the street car because the rally car is based on the street car.
Perdue 09-13-2004 08:20 PM

To everyone their own...if you can't deal with someone else's way of modifying their car, who's the real ricer? Anyways, if you wanna do Skyline tails, I'd say go for it. If you pull it off, it'd be bad ass and extremely different. If you don't pull it off though, I sure as heck hope you know how to fix it. I don't know if the actual tail assembly would fit or match the scoob's lines though. Maybe just molding in the actual circles into the body and maybe creating your own lines (or a shaved look with just the circles for that matter)? Just throwing out some ideas for you.
I guess its bad to be different
Being different for the sake of being different is worse than not being different..

And just imagine what you'd think if you saw an RB5 wing, or an STi hoodscoop, on a Corolla or a Civic or something. If you think "way to go man, nice custom work" the Skyline tails are for you. If you think "what the hell are you doing ricer, those are Subaru parts!", well...

The Impreza was designed from the beginning to be a rally car first and foremost.

scobaru 09-14-2004 04:11 PM

some how.... I kinda sorta expected to see a newbie posting this..... anything can be done with the right amount of money. I love the classic impreza jdm tail lights.... all I have to say

phong 09-15-2004 07:28 AM

<dad mode on>
Find something aftermarket that actually fits and leave the body alone. This way when you 1) sell the car it will not be perminently altered and 2) when you get sick of it (which you most likely will) you can put the original lights back in. Don't do anything perminent that you can't change because you will kick yourself later on.

I saw a Corrolla S with a wrx hoodscoop and lexus badgind all over it. But I do agree, the lights would look awful, quit modding cars for the sake of doing something to them! Just beacuse pep boys it 5 mins down the street doesn't mean you have to buy the wings and altezzas.
deebo 09-15-2004 10:18 AM

i know the pep boys crap is stupid but just because you hate them doesnt mean everyone has to

if you want skylines then try and make them its your car just dont **** it up
MixeD_MenacE 09-15-2004 10:31 AM

although i am opposed to any conversion, i have seen a beautiful R33 headlight conversion on a GF8 (93-00 wrx/sti wagon). the fitment looked stock until i noticed the corner lamps were part of the headlight assy. and it had the quad smoked headlamps (HID's too). a few oldschoolers might remember this beatup white and primerd "drift" wagon from oskaka i believe.

Remember, its sacreligious to people on this board to modify anything past the "JDM" or "rally" look the impreza has become to people statewise BUT its your car.

Good luck on the conversion though. Measure thrice, cut once.

I can hear the sad music playing now. There is a fine line between open mindedness and being just plain ridiculous. What is the point? You're not even close to being 'original'. There is only one word to describe it: tasteless. (You thought I was gonna say rice, huh?) [fanboy]Cross-breeding dogs is one thing, but ya better leave the GC alone!!![/fanboy]

I am going to play the  advocat for a second...if someone with a RS swaps in a WRX motor/turbo or someone with a WRX swaps STI brakes..what does that make them (fans of the other car right, then why not buy the other car and stop being a "fanboy" riiiiight??)

If one can mod correctly then by all means, go for it!!

Very well put. Its one thing to say if I want to slap on some skyline tails, I might as well buy a skyline (like I have $90,000 lying around o_o;;). But you should look back at people who have gc's and put sti or wrx parts in em. They might as well buy an sti right?
Sasco 09-15-2004 02:21 PM

One more thing. I never said that I was actually going to do it, I just asked if anyone had done it, and if they had, to post pictures of it. I don't even have a Subaru! If you read below my name I have an FD, Im just in the market for a second car, which will hopefully be a gc8. I probably wouldn't go through all the trouble of doing a mod this risky anyway.
joe z 09-15-2004 02:29 PM

i saw a green svx with Skyline tails i almost didn't know what is was

Function over form, buddy. Doing performance modifications is much different than slapping the tail lights of one car onto another (that doesn't even look similar). Making one car look like another is just being a poser.

yo
ttiwwop.

can you provide a photoshop or a picture of an actual subaru with the skyline rear tails?

the negative comments are getting a little annoying...so maybe if a pic was posted, people would either see that they really dont look that bad, or it would prove just how bad they look.

either way it might help, plus i am interested in how this would look. if i missed that a pic was already posted, sorry.

dan
Butt Dyno 09-16-2004 04:35 PM

I can't see how you would even do it. Half the lights would have to live on the trunk, not an easy job certainly.

The trunklid is skinnier on the Skyline.

john
turbocolin 09-17-2004 12:12 AM

just get afterburner lights from the uk if it is a gc8 or if it is a gd get morette tails
Handsdown 09-17-2004 02:29 AM

just get altezzas(the two red circle type)and cover all the chrome with flat primer then put vinyl over everything but the circles.

pretty much any way you do it, it's gonna look jacked and tasteless.

just get a real skyline if you like their tails so damn much.
