STi vs. Morettes

Hey guys,
At the moment I have a set of LHD STi headlights on my car with an HID kit, but for some reason, the more I see them, the more I like Morettes! Which do you guys like better? My car is silver!

you ahould have made this a poll;) but I would definetely take the STi's over the morettes, even though the morettes look better than stock

When you are writing a thread, look down at the bottom and there is a box you can check for "make this thrad a poll". Check that and then it will take you t o a screen where you can post a pole :)

A year and a half ago when I absolutely NEEDED to get a set of lights my choices were Morettes:$500
STi:$900+ some people were selling for as high as $1200 for non HID!!!
I'll give you three guesses which ones I ended up getting. And the first two guesses don't count. $900 for a set of headlights:eek:

ding ding ding! We have a winner! Now if money were no object, it would be an entirely different story.
| jagcars26 | 02-04-2003 04:23 PM |
Im with supermarkus,,,i bought my painted to match used morrettes, before i even took delivery of my car. They were used for about 1month and i got em with the harness fr $500,At that time the JDM Sti lites were around $900.So financialy it was a no brainer. I did like the STi lites better but the Morettes looked damn good.
So jump ahead a year, the price of the Sti lites has come down and i got a killer deal on some new JDMs.
IMHO they both look good,Morette=more aggresive look,Sti=softer JDM look.Depends on what your looking for.
Rudy:D
ps,The guys that say you hafta buy the LHD Sti lites so you dont blind other drivers are full of crap. You can adjst the JDM lites very easily to avoid this. That $300 dollar difference btween the LHD and RHD is like throwin money away imho.
pss,,you mite see my morretes in the classifieds soon;)

Prodrive!
I prefer the looks of the STi lights to the Morettes, but the latter should offer better lighting performance, given their H7 setup. If you're putting in an HID kit, my nod would most emphatically go to the STi lights. I just don't like the Morettes. They're a visual incongruity.

My opinion is it depends on the car. STi lights look fabulous on all WRXs. Morettes look wicked on lowered cars & wheels and not too good on stock cars.

I'd take my STi's over Morettes just for the fact that Morette also makes those horrrrrrrrrrrendous tail lights.

Obviously I already voted with my wallet. :D (and I didn't pay anywhere NEAR a $300 premium over the RHD projectors like someone mentioned earlier....ye gods)

If you follow the line of the front of the car, you will see that there is a design consistency with the stock lights, as well as the stock-shaped lights (like STi or Prodrive).
Now, when you look at the Morettes, you see that the strakes on the side of the light doesn't mate properly with the line of the fender. If it were lower, so that the line swept right into the line created by the fender blister, they would look a lot better. The image of the car (yours?) that you posted is a perfect example of this "line" problem.
And then there's the line created by the upper and lower eyelids. Essentially, there's just too much going on, an effect augmented by the side pieces that replace the smooth grille bits. Plus, the turn signal's in the wrong bloody place.
THAT is what I mean by the Morettes being a visual incongruity.
Some people, it doesn't bother. Me, it does.

Yeah I can see what you are saying. Nonetheless, I find Morettes more appealing to my taste. I hate "bug-eye'd" headlights....even on Mercedes. STi's headlights, to me, still make the car look bug-eyed...

Generally, H7s will outperform H1s, all else being equal. The Cibie (IIRC) optics in the Morettes are also first-rate, though from what I hear, not as nice as the Hella optics in the Prodrive lights.
My Prodrive lights definitely threw more light than a set of LHD STi lights.

IMO the STI lights are nice but I prefer the more aggressive look of the morettes. I myself went with the color matched morettes front and rear!! The rears are awesome. I dont like the neon bug eyed look either.

One of the disadvantages of the morettes is a lack of nice after market grills. There are only a couple that fit and they are just so-so as far as looks. (IMHO)

Ive had both STi and Morretes, like Kevin said stock to stock bulbs,,the morretes will win in the lite performance category.
I installed the H1 Phillips VisionPlus(courtesy Dr.Blinky ie. Kevinlol) in my Sti lights and now IMHO they are a good bit better then the stock morretes.
Both are much better then stock in lite performance.

STi all the way, the Morettes just don't flow with the car
| CirrusWRX | 02-06-2003 02:29 PM |
I got color matched morettes and love em. To each his/her own, and I think when somebody says, "this is the way it is," we all realize it is still just a subjective opinion. I liked the fact that it altered the appearance of the car. I added HID to mine and LOVE THEM - absolutely LOVE them. I also have the replica STi genome grill (center piece) ready to go on, and I am just SO completely satisfied by the looks.
Of course, I could show it to 100 people and everybody will have their own opinion, and that's what makes us humans cool. But the most important thing is to be happy with YOUR setup, and NOT care what other people think!

Morrette lovers, if you could've gotten LHD STi projectors for the same price as Morrettes would you still go with Morrettes?
I was gonna get Morrettes til I found the STi's used for the same price.

Exactly. ;) Why transform your front with something (JDM) that looks similar? And I don't agree with the people saying that the Morette have cheap quality and stuff. The houseing and the bulbs that comes with the Morette manufacter appear (and it is) to be supreme, after all is a $500 product. late.

Just to throw something obvious out there, but can we get a consensus on the fact that being scooby owners, we have a delectable choice of headlight styles/mods!?
I mean, doing the mods to the stock lights, JUN eyelids and the like, Prodrive, UK300, JDM, morette, Ociari, who else am I missin here...
I just think it's sooooo cool that we have so many choices, that I would question somebody if they say, "it's a nice looking car except for those darn headlights" - to that I respond, "man - if you can't find something to change the looks to meet your needs then you got somthin wrong with ya!!
My overall opinion, they all look pretty damned good!
