Tail light options for WRX? part 1

AlphaDog 04-02-2002 04:35 PM

Tail light options for WRX?

OK, we all know that the Altezza style tail lamps are from Satan's cedar chest, but I would like to know if any other replacement options exist for the WRX.

I think the rear end of the car is very boring, and could use just a little something to spice it up (cayenne warm, not jalapeno seed hot).

Anyone know of anything?

A Scoobysport with a turbo boxer four sound coming out of it would be add a little spice.

Aqua makes taillight covers for the WRX that are a nice alternative to the played out Altezza lights. Check vividracings site for pics.

Leave the Tail lights alone...they are fine.....keep it Stock...
Zahnster 04-02-2002 08:05 PM

Your tailight options come down to Wagon or Sedan. If you didn't notice, they are different
Chunky_Chicken 04-02-2002 08:20 PM

They look good covered in dirt, course you should clean them off once and a while so you don't get rear ended.

Spray tinting always is nice.

A friend of mine is REALLY good at doing it. He can make lights look like they were darkened at the factory...

You could also make the tails entirely red...
Frederf 04-02-2002 09:09 PM

I'd like to see a Passat-esque arrangement. Possibly body color taillights with colored LEDs the correct color. Just a thought.
ATX25RS 04-03-2002 01:22 AM

yeah spray tinting works...mine are spray tinted red and have a small brow on them

you know what, to all of you who are telling this guy/girl to keep the taillights stock are just wasting space on this thread. there is no point, you're not being helpful... the person is asking a simple question and rather then being an aid to his question you are being a deterrent. So rather then putting stupid comments in, restrict yourself and if you have a real answer post that instead. Personally I'm lookin' at alternate options myself. so keep the the info flowing

Lol, you didn't read this at all. We are talking about taillights, not headlights.
Hazdaz 04-03-2002 11:12 AM

SHERIFX: I'm totaly with you on this.

ALPHADOG: I saw a post on here about 3 versions of the taillights (I think from the UK). 2 of them were alittle too "Altezza-like", but one of them was basically the same as the stock lights, but Jewelled - I think looks real nice. Not sure if they were just a prototype or what. Do a search and you might be able to find it.

I also thought that the lights were kinda boring, but after driving behind a few WRXs thsi past weekend, I really like the way they look lit-up (like with the lights 'on' and when the brake like is 'on'). At night they are very nice. I wish they did look a little more 'unique' during the day. Maybe those jewel versions would do the trick without lookin too crazy.

Hell, the headlights are pretty funky and "out-there", why be satisfied with the 'generic' lookin taillights?
Wagon Guy 04-03-2002 01:13 PM

Satan's Cedar Chest? What the hell is that. Any pics of the tezzas on a WRX? Web links please? Throw me a frickin bone!
Jejunum 04-03-2002 02:44 PM

dont think there are altezza lights for subies i could be wrong however

i think alternate lights would be neat...i dont hate ricers! heh
SilverWRX02 04-03-2002 02:51 PM

Oh yeah there are altezza's for the WRX. The Only Rex I've seen with Altezza lights I think it was from sports car compact magazine or one of those magazines. THe car is orange...

Personally I like the tail lights of the WRX. But I would like to enhance the clear part of it. Like the M5 red and white tail lights. The white part of the M5 looks really nice.
GeoT100 04-03-2002 03:47 PM

i wish they made all white tailights, cuz then i would get the tailight garnish that AQUA makes , that would look kool on my blue rex since i have white rims and white side marker
newbie sewbie 04-03-2002 07:39 PM

since everybody on here seems to be so oppose to the altezza, and mind you, it's your car, so you want it to be different and stand bout amongst the scooby crowd, so i would slap on the altezza, just so you'll be notice

Jejunum 04-03-2002 09:47 PM

err i know im being stuipd now (for multiple reasons i guess) but i dunno where those altezzars are sold ; id also like to see pics

can anyone link me please?!
Tedwrx 04-03-2002 11:31 PM

tail lights

APC has only made one set of altezzas for the wrx, and there is a 95% chance that they will not make the altezzas for the wrx. That is what the apc rep. told me in Daytona, he also said that he thought the altezzas would sell better than if they made replica sti headlights.

P.S. Iwould spray your tails red.:)

for those of you who are considering "smoking" your taillights here are some pix of a photoshop job I requested. They don't look too bad, but they don't look great, imho.

Ok, now "smoke" them really close to body color (except reverse lights).

I think that would look great on my black WRX. Anyone done this or know what to use?

I've always loved the R34 Skyline tails (and I don't think anyone makes "them" for other cars), so maybe something like these would rock for our cars, and let you get away with not having your head ripped off by people who think modifying your taillights is somehow wrong, yet body kits, carbon fiberhoods, etc are fine.

Color match the outer part with the car, have two circles, and with the JDM headlights (which are also circles), it would look cool. Right now, the rear of the car sorta looks like a hyundai/kia arrangement.

This is only a model kit... but you get a bigger overall picture,

One more for good measure... don't care for the yellow though.

Zahnster 04-04-2002 09:15 PM

The one for a Suby would have to locate a backup light in it somewhere...
Vineet Singh 04-04-2002 09:40 PM

Damn... didn't think of that!

Maybe part of the inner circle could be white? Good call though!
North Ursalia 04-04-2002 10:26 PM

How about this? Backup lights in the center as requested :)...

Frederf 04-04-2002 10:56 PM

Lol, yeah I posted, saw yours, and thought WTH?
Subdav 04-04-2002 11:46 PM

say it anyway

yes I like those rear lights and would probaly buy those round job's. Seem's to me Subaru "said" "round" is in!! atleast up front...but the butt is square I don't get it.......
Frederf 04-05-2002 12:07 AM

So you can tell which end is which
Vineet Singh 04-05-2002 02:10 AM

Schweet photochops! If only someone could make them now. The reverse light could be a ring incorporated into one of the lights made of the new "white" LED's, I've seen some attempts using those in older BMW's for "angel eye's", but this would be far simpler.

I'd pay some good money for these, as long as not everyone and their brother starts buying them up :)

Round in front, and round in rear, sounds good to me :)
ATX25RS 04-05-2002 02:28 AM

sweet photoshops...i like that look....i may try that on mine :D

Andres
Frederf 04-05-2002 02:49 AM

*bows* Zank you, I'll be here all zoo ze veek.

I may move the reverse lights to the outer lights and putting the turn signals as rings between the stop lights and reverses.

Or

I may move the turn signals to the inside and put the backups as rings on the inside lights.

I'll post blowups of the housing in a sec.
AlphaDog 04-05-2002 02:14 PM

I'm glad this thread got back on subject...wading through those who think that 2 feet tall wings are vogue but better looking tail lights aren't...anyway...

If any of the various vendors/manufacturers for the WRX who are on this board see those, why not chime in on the possibility of producing them?

I'm thinking that would really complement the car well, especially with Morrettes (double round lights up front and back).

-Dog
Zahnster 04-05-2002 02:23 PM

I think we don't need the orange. Replacing it with the white works. On most taillights, the rear turn signal just blinks one of the lights in the taillight cluster. So our blinker would be like the inner or outer red circle.
smp291 04-05-2002 05:43 PM

Those skline tails look pretty good!!

I think I have too much free time on my hands... but I figured I'd throw something together in Photoshop.
One thing I noticed is that the WRX's taillights aren;t wide enough to give you enough room for two LARGE round lights (I think the lights in the other pix are too small). Instead I think this might look interesting:
Street Tuner 04-05-2002 07:34 PM

I was told by another member not to post pictures on here because this board could not handle them so you can go here and see some tails that are off the Project WRX.

Kostamojen 04-06-2002 02:08 AM

We saw those APC lights back when they showed the car at SEMA Street Tuner... We already "handled them", And yes, they are ghey :p
wolf8314 04-06-2002 05:00 AM

Atezzas BAD!!!!!! and i dont mean bad as in good. But hey i think we might have something with this whole GTR tails.....i personally like them and might buy them if they looked good on black.

GoodFinder 04-06-2002 11:46 AM

Interesting ideas. Some kind of tail lights like the Skyline would be a neat alternative for the WRX.

Anybody wanna photoshop that rear pic of the WRX to instead of having R34 taillights to have:

4 Slits

---------- <- red brake light
--------- <- red turn light
-------- <- red brake light
-- <- white reverse light

I wish I had photoshop so I could show you what I'm talking about but not elongated bars with rounded ends, but angled tips kinda like <_________> kinda like that *shrug* thats always been my idea

The thing to keep in mind about spray tinting the tails is that it will look a lot more red than that Photoshop. It almost look like those tails were clear to being with and then had the bottom darkened...

Here is my rendition (hope you don't mind I used your pic Cthulhu):

Of course you could go darker than that, but sometime cops can be dicks about tinted tails...
AlphaDog 04-09-2002 03:41 PM

That above pic with the smoked lenses looks really good...

Did someone say they had a direction sheet or how-to site?
