IIRC I paid $350 for my window tint for front and rear sides and the back window from Mr. Tint in San Jose on Stevens Creek Blvd. I love my tint and they did an excellent job. Yes, there are probably places that do the same service for cheaper (which is why I gave a link to all types of different Tint Shops above for the Bay Area), but I definitely know that this place does quality work. You know it is good when you see a lot full of high-end cars getting the work done.

And in case you want to know the laws regarding Window Tint in California:

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/ - Here is the Tint Law Information for California.

http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html - This is the CHP Information, but the above is the current Tint Law Information for California.

http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_ca.html

BTW, before you decide on what you want, you should probably swing by the place and check out some of their work on other cars and see how good the quality of their work actually is on other vehicles. Also, make sure you get a good quality Tint and not the cheap kind that will bubble and turn purple in like 3-7 years.
Wannascooby 12-13-2006 02:43 PM

150 for 5 windows none on windshield...I thought it was pretty expensive for such a tiny car. Anyone know why its so pricey. When I brought in a corolla it was like 130 bucks...

Between $225-$275 in Westchester area of NY at a reputable shop. $80 from a guy on the corner in the Bronx. lol And post this in your regional section for prices in your area. What I pay in NY is going to be different than what Joe Shmoe pays in California.

$270 for everything but the windshield at Extreme Tint in Santa Clara http://www.extremetint.com/ . 35% fronts and 20% rears. They did it in about an hour and it's great.

What the hell is Titanium tint? I keep thinking you guys are talking about either the mirror tint or that half black half mirror tint. I don't see what the difference is between your titanium tint and charcoal tint.
What the hell is Titanium tint? I keep thinking you guys are talking about either the mirror tint or that half black half mirror tint. I don't see what the difference is between your titanium tint and charcoal tint.
i've never heard of charcoal tint....but i have been out of the loop when it comes to tint for a while.

Titanium is a black tint that is very reflective, almost as if the tint is dipped in metal..it never looks like chrome silver reflective though...just black with a mirror finish...hard to describe, but it is NOT mirror tint
Mayor McCheese 12-13-2006 05:14 PM

Yeah it's really hard to see in those pics what it truly looks like.
Knightmare69 12-13-2006 05:22 PM

Charcoal and smoke are just the 2 different types of darkness of the old school tint. I followed until the half/half hit the scene then I just didn't pay attention. I'll have to see if my guy had the Titanium. Mabye that's what he's been using all these years considering all the cars he's done has a reflectivness to them
xxxbelial29xxx 12-13-2006 05:32 PM

15%
$275 done by the best guy in town, (IMO) Gene @ World of Magic Glass 15% titanium smoke film, all 5 plus strip across the top
Seattle206 12-14-2006 01:27 AM

Got mine done for $140 for 5 windows, the tinter offered to do the front but I dont like tinted front windshields. Mine is 15% but I shouldve gone 5%, even though legal here is 35%. The original price to do the tint is $250 but i knew the guy that worked at the tint shop.
d-money rex 12-14-2006 06:11 PM

my first reply....yay...anyways..i have 5% on the back... and 18% on the front...5% banner on my winshield!

xxxbelial29xxx 12-14-2006 07:20 PM

Should have went 5%, was worried I wouldn't be able to see well at night though.
Knightmare69 12-14-2006 07:23 PM

Yea, I'm still on the fence about the 5%, back in highschool all my cars rolled with 5% but now I'm a bit older and more concerned about being able to see. Maybe I'll do 5% in the back and 20% in the front with a 5% banner, that should even the front out a bit no?
d-money rex 12-14-2006 08:24 PM

with 5% in the back..i have no problems seeing at night...as long as theres lights around...but when i go canyon crawling...thats when i cant see:eek: anything out of my sides!
Knightmare69 12-14-2006 09:11 PM

yea, considering that I'm in the city I won't have that problem but I plan on taking my gf skiing and those areas don't have as much light.

20 rear and windshield and 35 sides - i find it to be perfectly functional, looks good, and light enough to stay under the radar if needs be

i paid $220 in LA
momolicious 12-15-2006 02:36 AM

hmm, 35% seems to be the sweet spot eh? i dont like it too dark but i want some tint, the 35% on that wagon looks alright
Junglist 12-15-2006 02:41 AM

About $140 for 15% on 5 windows. Only been hassled once for illegal tint on the driver and passenger windows.
GetUpKid 12-15-2006 05:12 AM

so titanium tint is prolly illegal huh
Junglist 12-15-2006 05:26 AM

no, just ugly
jmhubbard01 12-15-2006 09:12 AM

I'd say 30% is the sweet spot IMO. I would have liked to go darker, but didn't want another reason to get pulled. 27% is the legal limit in SC.
- 30% on top of the stock tint all the way around. Plus the ghey little legal stickers...

oh - and $150.00
MFR Sweep 12-15-2006 10:27 AM
- 30% on top of the stock tint
stock?
jmhubbard01 12-15-2006 10:41 AM

stock coatings - that's why SC is 27%... 30% tint on stock windows = 27% according to their regs... go figure.
Knightmare69 12-15-2006 10:42 AM

I dont' have stock tint, my windows are clear, did you get your car used or something where the previous owner tinted it?
CatfaceType-R 12-15-2006 10:57 AM
no, just ugly
....i don't understand how you can come to that conclusion...but ok

i got a similar tint job on my wagon too: 30% front side windows, 20% for the 5 windows behind the driver, all with ceramic tint for $140. $220 is pretty steep for the socal area...

i prefer ceramic over titanium since the metal particles reduce my radar detector's range.

cheaper tint films use dyes/pigments for color and they tend to fade. better tints use ceramic or metal particles and will typically have a lifetime warranty against fading or changing colors.
tratpop 12-15-2006 11:35 AM

i have been looking for a tint material tha tgives that glazed blue look to it, like a benz. I think it would look nice on a metallic grey/siler wrx
benj182 12-15-2006 01:03 PM

im shopping around for a good tint shop as well, and around the orange county area, the price ranges from 120-175 for 5 windows (i have a wagon). id rather go with a shop that does good quality work and pay a bit more, than a shop that has a really low rate but sketchy worksmanship.
rubrduk 12-15-2006 06:37 PM

forgot to mention...$220 included removal of the dealer installed tint (bubbles and dirt under it...teh ghey)
momolicious 01-07-2007 05:37 PM

why do most people do dark back and light up front, why not do same all around
dibblejr 01-07-2007 06:30 PM

Wagons are a bit more expensive because of our concaved windows. I havent found a decent place in Northern, NY. I wont do mine, my wifes wagon has been tinted and it looks like shiot.

IllNastyImpreza 01-08-2007 12:01 AM

$160 for 35% on all 4 doors and rear window = more like 28% all the way around.

I'm not a fan of the two-tone tint either. I went with 50% Charcoal (matte black/grey) all the way around on my car. Most people don't even know my windows are tinted until you see it next to a car with no tint. I've never had any issues with the nazi police out here in SoCal either, one of the major reasons I stayed light. That and it looks hella clean with the light charcoal tint on aspen white.

I paid about $230 for 5 windows. I know that was a little steep, but I didn't mind, knowing that the shop was very reputable and they had tons of references and photos of all their work on cars and commercial buildings.

And to the guy looking for the blue Benz tint... GOOD LUCK! I searched for months trying to find out how to get that. It's a specialty tint that the benzos get and IIRC it is actually baked/dyed into the glass itself. The closest retail product is that cheap dyed blue crap that fades in 6 months. There is a product that is also to the benz blue tint called V-Cool, it's a commercial building tint, but I was told by a distributor that our rear window would require two pieces as the rolls aren't wide enough. So basically you would see a visible line where the pieces were put together...

I was considering getting tint like the benz "sport" glass (the blue glass that comes on the E/C/CLK/CLS cars with the amg/sport package). the place where i got my car tinted, California Tint in Rosemead ((626) 287-2321) did have a bluish tint that looked VERY much like the benz glass. You might want to give them a call and see the brand/model of tint they use. I decided to go with the ceramic since i thought i'd probably get sick of the bluish tint.

Yeah i already got mine tinted. I actually called Mercedes and a few shops and they use a different kind of tint than tint shops use to ge the blue. Those are cheap dyed tints. The Mercedes tint is not dyed, uses a metallic/ceramic to get the color. No one carries that tint unfortunately and even Mercedes has to get the windows pre-tinted from the factory. Oh well, I'm over it. I'll just go out and buy the Benzo for the blue tint. :D
