06 STi rear wing diffuser

I was think about gettting the 06 STi rear wing diffuser but looking at the install picture it seem like someone can remove it and take that damn thing in seconds ($400 ).

It looks cool initially but IMHO it does not look smooth in the pics...
I'd just wait for a while to see them in person and then decide.

a replica will still need to attach in the same fashion
look at one on an STI
I dont think they're as easy to remove as you may think from the parts diagram ;)

Now I need to wait and see if someone can fit it to a GC8 or just go to the dealership and do a few measurements and find out for myself.

If it was carbon fiber then it might look better, but right not it doesn't flow at all... yuck..
I love what the Evo MR has as far as the thing that has all the shark fins going across the back end of the roof... That is what they should put or make on our cars... If I could get one in black, cf or maybe even painted to match the rest of the car I think I would be more opted to get that instead of the sti air diffuser...

By looking at the picture above, it seem like to remove the wing you would just remove the two side covers first then the 4 bolts. It's not like a trunk spoiler where you have to open the trunk first to unbolt the spoiler. It seems easy for a theft person to steal it.

i'm thinking you'd want a body shop to install this for you.
as far as i know there is no template with the diffuser either.....

For all the hate the '06 brought, there sure seems to be a demand for parts from it :)
I think the rear-window wing is neat, but vandels and theives will probably bend it all up because they are jerks and should rot in a pit full of spider babies and ducks.

is the center section separate from the sides?? Part W140012 looks like a little screw that holds the "wing" to the sides... or is it to hold the cover onto the sides?? if the center is separate, it wouldn't be too hard to make a cf center section...
Also, someone really needs to make a slightly taller and adjustable version of the rear wing...

Someone can take your fog light covers in less time it takes to get that wing off.
What do you do.. sleep in your car? If I really really wanted to, I could jack your car up on a tow truck and take the entire thing.

looks cool.. is it really just 4 sheet metal screws holding that thing in place though? If so, it definitely is a DIY as long as you are ok with lining it up. If i like it in person, Ill prolly buy one for my 05.

The weave on the cf is awesome, and it seems to be 100% cf, the underside isn't fiberglass or anything else. The fit is tight, it bows up a bit off the glass in the middle. I have a combo of some 3m double sided super sticky tape and some rubber window gasket thingy from home depot. It's on tight and isn't going anywhere, it help up fine on a 300mile high speed blast to atlantic city with no problem. They recommend using glass adhesive, but i wanted it to be removable if needed.

I like the CF one way better than the factory one as well... It just flows a lot better.
| KrazyKarl | 09-11-2005 12:20 AM |
I wouldnt worry too much about that thing getting stolen, regardless of how easy it is to remove...for it to get stolen, first someone has to know theyre easy to remove, otherwise they wont attempt it...the car just isnt common enough for that to be common knowledge. and second, the thief would want it to be easy to fence, which it wouldnt be...again because the cars arent as common as, say, an accord.

the edges wedge into the rubber water drain thingies on the sides of the rear glass (there is space underneath still for water to run off). The installation guide says to have a glass shop install it with glass adhesive. I am just using 3M double sided sticky tape, the kind they make to hold on body parts like fender flares, lips, etc.

That CF thing would cause more separation than no vane at all. It's going to do the exact opposite of what the '06 Roof Vane is trying to accomplish. But go ahead.. in the name of fashion
