2005 Nationals-Done. What are ya doing next year? part 1

2005 Nationals-Done. What are ya doing next year?
That time of year again. Certain colder weather regions are finishing up their seasons of auto-xing and are about to put their cars in hybernation for the winter... and tinker/play with them.

So.. what's everyone doing next year? :)

I most likely will be back with the 8 in BS. Just no Pros... just tours.

thrdeye 09-26-2005 10:28 AM

I am still a noob, but I'd like to experience Nat's if money allows next year.
leecea 09-26-2005 10:51 AM

I'll remain in DS and hope to be teaching my daughter how to autox, plus trying to squeeze a few more tenths out of my times.
CamaroFS34 09-26-2005 10:52 AM

I don't know yet. It's going to depend on what happens to FS in the next month or so. I might sell the black car and get something else, but I don't know what. :(

Karen
Dussander 09-26-2005 11:09 AM

I can not decide.
Take the year off.
Focus on w2w.
Focus on solo2 again.
My main problem is that with my wife's work schedule and with my little buddy (son), I can't AutoX enough to put in a good charge for the championship.
AtomicRacer 09-26-2005 11:17 AM

Sticking with STU.

HS with Kim's MINI, Rallycross the Subaru.
jcroy66 09-26-2005 01:07 PM

No Pros KC? Bummer. :( Phil and I will probably be doing basically the opposite - Pros only, with only the Toledo National Tour (and Nationals of course). No point in going to Peru this year.

Car will still be STX.

But we haven't decided which class I should do next year - do we pick up a year-long co-driver with whom to split expenses, with me in L2 and STXL again? Or no co-driver and I do STX with Phil instead? I'd guess it'll probably boil down to who is available as a co-driver.
Storm 09-26-2005 01:10 PM

I may buy a BMW.... :P
Jsortor 09-26-2005 01:13 PM

Someone can buy Andy Basham's car as I believe it is for sale now.....
mccanixx 09-26-2005 01:18 PM

Staying in STX. But focusing more on national level and cen-div events next year. We'll see what the budget allows for, but would like to do at least 3 pro-solos' and our national tour here in Toledo. Yeah I'm still a newbie.

Yeah to travel expenses :(

Just looking forward to another great year with the people that make auto-x fun. :D
dwx 09-26-2005 01:25 PM

Maybe I'll actually autocross the car I've spent the last six months building.
Templar 09-26-2005 01:35 PM
Maybe I'll actually autocross the car I've spent the last six months building.
Wow, does that sound familiar. Well, except you can add 5 to the months

Perhaps Phil and I will both be able to show up at nationals and get smoked by a couple of bimmers.
Scooby South 09-26-2005 01:36 PM

This year was a bust for me trying to autox...so I have been slowly preparing for next year....Depending on what happens in ESP...I will campaining in either ESP or BSP depending....Working some issues out suspension wise...but other than that...will wait to see what developes with the boost issue...in the class...or if SCCA makes a seperate class...

so at least a partial assault on the Tour...and some pro's...and the Finals..

..but just about ready..:)

flyboymike 09-26-2005 03:12 PM

I'll continue in STX locally. It's just that where those "local events" are is going to change... possibly twice. I will be starting my first stage of actually making significant changes to the car. Basically, next year will be tires and F/R swaybars.

Eventually I'll be getting coilovers, camber/caster plates, and Group N rear strut tops. Would it be worthwhile to do the plates and strut tops while I'm still on the stock struts?

Watch out KC! I did get to drive a very nice BS 350z Saturday. I had forgot what fun RWD with power is! lol....

Current plans though: autox as much as possible, keep the car in STX with maybe a few minor tweaks.

Steven
Orion 09-26-2005 03:42 PM

I'll be starting OVR's RallyX program with a little help from WOR. Dunno what car, it may be the current RS or a new WRX. The RS would see more RX time than AX next year and the WRX would see both.

As usual, no Topeka again as 3rd shift and a 2 y.o. don't leave much free time. Once he's older I'll be back. I may head home to Toledo for the Tour, but that's it. Never made it to Peru and probably never will.
10th Warrior 09-26-2005 03:42 PM

next year: more trees, less cones.
makofoto 09-26-2005 04:24 PM

Hoping to run STU in Mark Coleman's STI ... and support a number of Team Blew friends that hope to finally make it to Topeka. Jeff Barco, Max Hayter, Sebastian Rios (all STX), Henry Bjoin (SM2?), Norm Roberts (STU), Scott Taft (SM) ...
AUTOwrXER 09-26-2005 04:29 PM

Next year I'll be working on the tow vehicle so that when KC revs on me I'll embarass him ;)

Seriously, I'll start the BSP transition as soon as the official word comes down about boost and just run SM locally. BSP next year definite; perhaps Pros only.
rautox 09-26-2005 04:34 PM
 What are you getting into? Gonna go for the BMW afterall?
Nope. The idea of a spec (er) class is becoming more and more appealing. I'm checkin' out a kart this week. Lots of logistics involved between here and there, but that's the current direction.

Anyone visiting WDCR be warned, this will assure wet events from this point forward.

Not takin' the STU plunge yet? C'mon KC, you know you wanna.

Likely further developing the RS for STS for 2006... there is a slight chance that I may be going to B-Stock in a non traditional (not 350z or RX8) RWD car.

Who knows for sure yet. STS is more likley.

Plan on doing any Nat. events, tour and Pro, close enough to get to and the SeDiv series again....

F125 and having the car/kart last the season.
Scoobie Doogie 09-26-2005 06:54 PM

I'm selling my ITR and WRX to get an STI. Owning the STI vs the ITR and WRX will cut my insurance bill by 60%. (Read: mod money) I'll be running in STU. There is great competition in WDCR with Mike Neary in his M3. Competing with him will give me an understanding if I need to bother with Nationals next year or not. Should be fun!

Anyone know if there is an STU Mod thread around like we had for DS and STX?

Autocrossing.. not sure.. kicking around setting the CRX up for STS-2

I will probably go to Nationals in the AMS car.. FP or SM or something.
I am also working on a sponsorship package with AMS for a substantial season that includes a few Time Attacks, One Lap of America, Pikes Peak, Bonneville Salt Flats, Nevada Open Road Challenge, hell if JGTC comes back and lets logbooked racecars in we might even see about that.

And jsut because I am an addict, and its the last year of eligibility for my SSC Neon, I want to go to the runoffs just to do it.

Stay in STX, keep learning, do an Evo school, and try to close up some of the huge gap in PAX'd results between myself and Jeff Ellerby and Brian Goodner at the local events :(

I'm itching to finally buy a shifter kart and run F125 and/or run with the local kart clubs for some pick-up racing. Just gotta find a good local used CRG chasis...
TheWRX 09-27-2005 11:48 AM

Stay in SS. Run more national events, including Pros. Suck less than this season. Maybe add the LSD. Might have a (much faster) codriver.

CM, tours only? STS, pros only? CM or STS regionally only? DSP regionally? a LOT of other things on my plate right now. autocross is actually pretty far down on the list for the first time in 6 yrs.

nate
ratt_finkel 09-27-2005 05:11 PM

Depends alot financially, and what classing changes come to G-Stock. I would love to take a trophy in the class and should've, but that is another story. I would also love the build it for DSP if the Bimmers move. Otherwise, I'll let Jay and Ed have the fun their ;)

Oh and of course, I have the Evo to play with. I'm all about underdogs, so I might give it a shot in AS. More than likely STU though, IF, I decide to try my hand in that car.

nooooo... if you sell it then there goes all the fast suby's in sts. billy would have no more competition at the pro's. if you leave he migth ditch too... who knows.

btw. i'll still be in stx... but... with a whole new setup
omahasubaru 09-28-2005 09:19 AM

Oh... that isn't very nice saying he's the only fast suby in STS. Geez. The rest of us are trying... Wasn't an STS suby on top of STX after the first day of competition at nationals this year? :p

Corey, send me the details on your car for sale. I may be interested instead of co-driving. Billy & I have been talking setup... so give it at least one year on asphalt Corey. May be just what the suby's need to get in the trophies for Solo II @ nats. Sucks you didn't get in there this year. Damn close.

Coulda shoulda woulda... I don't like to theorize about what could have been, but I will say this: I had so many errors on my fast run on the South course, that I am surprised by my finish actually. The CAR can easily trophy in STS. Concrete or asphault. ;)

I didn't make a big deal of it, but for the record: we were running the same tires in STX as our STS drivers (225/45/17's). The only difference in the car for sts vs stx trim at nationals this year was we threw the high-flow cat on the car for STX. We will be on 245's next season! :)

Well crap. Who knows what will be happening next year? Spec 944, STX, STS, BSP, Speed Touring or USTCC.

There are plenty of fast RSs out there. I believe Steven was able to show us that it could be done in STX also (However I believe the rain helped with this aspect. The RS is a much better car in the rain than the WRX).

We will just have to see what happens in the next coming months.

I would actually argue that on the South course the RS lost some advantage over the WRX in the wet. The south course had so many tight sections that I really felt we would have a heads up over the WRX. But when the wet weather set in it equalized all the AWD cars since it was all about a little power, smooth tight lines and not spinning (the wheels or the car). Due to the RS getting torque quickly with little throttle I was lighting up the tires a lot more in the wet than I think a WRX would, since it would have been off boost through a lot of the technical sections of that course. I knew I was going to get plowed down by the WRX's on the north course, I'm just happy that I held on as best as possible on day 2. lol... All in all, I'm still amazed that first run on day 1 held the top spot, as I think the car was driving me, not me driving the car.
