version 4 bumper, where to get?
well i did a search or tried to find the version 4 bumper and front lip replacement and whenever i typed in version 4 the search wouldn't let me because 4 was not 3 letters long. So does anyone know where i can find this??
| Opes | 10-11-2001 06:53 PM |
If you're talking about the one with the three slits beside the foglights and the curved front bumper signal lights Sugar can get it. I just ordered one from her and it should be here any day now.

SOA carries the version 4?? hmmm american never had that version on these shores so i think i may have to special order it
| imposter | 10-12-2001 09:29 PM |
this is a reply i got from subaru of australia:
The part no. is 57720FA071 and can be supplied by your local Subaru dealership.
It's true, if you go to your dealership and give them the # they can order it from SOA. I thought it was strange too that you could get a part from a version that was never available to the US. Whenever you can get a part # just go to subaruparts.com and if it comes up there it is also available at the dealer.
As for the inner beam, i had to cut mine (converting from an L) and the foglights are the same as an RS. You can get the clear turnsignals from www.autocaresubaru.com for $80 + shipping. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Jim:)

OK I see the difference now but is it actually better than the ones you get factory from your US spec bumpers MY99 to MY01. I'm stuck with the canadian or MY98 US one. But something about the version 4 I don't like as much as the ones you guys have.
If anyone of you want to buy a version 4 and sell me your stock RS MY99 to MY01, I'd probably take it.

US MY99+ bumpers...
those are the V5/6 bumpers. Well, actually the MY99's have the V5 bumper, and the +MY00's have the V6 bumper minus the lip -- the mounting holes for the lip have been pre-drilled.
Anywayz, many people here in Vancouver have the V5/US bumper (me included) and the V4 bumper is rare here and still looks VERY good. It's simpler and cleaner than the V5. Stick a lip on the V4 and it looks awesome!

I can sell you mine. I've the front bumper + nice lip + clear turn signals. How much are they charging you? I can charge a lower price since those are used. I can sell you my rear spats too.

on the price of the version 4, just go to subaruparts.com with the part # on above post & that is about cost plus 10%. see what your subaru dealer wants or see if he will sell it to you for the same price without the shipping cost.

OEM Part numbers
does any one have the oem part numbers for the parts for the ver 4 bumper?
many thanx to Imposter for the bumper number. what about the turn signal lights? what about the proper back beam? if you keep your old beam, what mods did you do?
I work for a dealer so I am going to order them directly from my warehouse since I pay dealer cost.:D

RE: OEM part numbers
Okay, here are the parts #'s i have and what i have found out:
Front bumper cover- 57720FA071 -available from SOA
Inner beam- 57760FA400 - available from SOA
Right turn signal- 84441FA080 - both sides not available from SOA
Left turn signal - 84441FA090
Right Fog lamp- 84501FA360 - both not available from SOA
Left fog lamp- 84501FA370
Right fog lamp bracket- 84927FA000 - both available from SOA
Left fog lamp bracket - 84927FA010
I was converting from an 'L' so i "had" (trying to save money) to cut the inner beam, but on an RS i would think that since both versions have foglights in the same spot, the beam should be the same. As for the turn signals, if you want clear go to www.autocaresubaru.com , otherwise if you want amber see if someone in australia or somewhere else has used ones. and for the foglamps, the RS's will work.

one thing i forgot:
if you have the double-bar bumper beam like i did, you may want to save yourself the hassle and get the replacement. If you really want to cut, remove the bottom bar flush with the 2 brackets that attach it to the rest. leave the brackets there for strength.
i think that's everything

--no. SOA does not carry the covers. when the bumper comes in would depend on how often you dealer receives shipments. my dealer doesnt stock body parts, and it only took them 6 days. they are stocked here in the US, i cant remember where though.

Is there any web page that tells you how to do it?
Im getting one next week. Im also getting the front indicator from Australia... I've looked for them everywhere!

sorry for the delay. Yuji-and everyone else that's wondering-it was a very easy install (for a car w/ 90k miles and a few rusted bolts) took less than an hour. here are some brief directions:
1)remove headlights, grille
2) underneath there are several plastic screws/retainers. remove all of them.
3) crawl underneath and there is a few metal bolts. remove those. on my car they were so frozen and at such an awkward angle i couldnt get enough force on them so i just hacked the tabs off the old bumper and used vice grips to get the bolts out
4) the final 2 bolts are in the wheel wells. remove the front inner fender liners and you will see. taking off the wheels helps in doing this
that's it. its easier to have someone just to help hold the new bumper in place while you put in the side bolts as it hasnt had a chance to conform to the curves of the car

i cut the old 'L' beam. it would probably be easier if you got the replacement. the fit and finish would probably be better too. earlier in this forum i said where i made the cuts.
i think im going to get those clear covers that fit around the lamp, but i believe you can get the ver4 STI's from ISR Performance or MRT Performance and they are expensive.
Jim
Can anyone tell me how to make picture file sizes smaller. ive been trying to post pics but they are too big. thanks

To make images smaller, you need graphic software like photoshop, paint shop, and other software. there are tons of freeware that do that as well.
I liked using IrfanView (freeware)

As far as I know, the bumper comes with NO llip.
Also, the fogs should work but the turn signals will not.
You can get the turn signals (clear) from ISR performance.
