shrug... I'd be surprised if Brock Sr. gave two $hits either way. He's got grandkids now. Sure he's opinionated, sometimes outdated in his pro-Detroit arguments. However he's a legend in the automotive community. One of "the" contributors over the years. Sure, he's probably not notorious on a Subaru message board, but Brock is to the auto scene as Yastremski (sp?) or Ted was to baseball. He may not hold any records, but it's people like him that gave character to it all.
From a personal standpoint, he's the first person to pull you aside at the track during One Lap and point out that no matter how large of a turbo you have under the hood, that it will still hurt if you put it into the wall at VIR or come over after you just smushed half the fenders by hitting a decent sized wild boar while coming across $texas. He legitimately cares.. which is more than you can every say about Tony Swan or Csaba Csere.
Will C&D be significantly better off without him? Doubtful? Will 1.6 million readers up and cancel their subscriptions? Also doubtful. Would One Lap of America ever be the same without Brock Sr.? The answer is a resounding no. It would never be the same.

Car and Driver, Motor Trend, I'd always pick them up hoping they wouldn't piss me off. But then I stopped. Recently with their new editor, Motor Trend has dug themselves out of the horrible rut they were in and now they have some of the best photography of any car mag. Car and Driver are still where they are, in suckville.
C&D really does need to make sure they don't become obsolete. I can't see how they can survive when almost every car guy or girl I know hates the mag.
As for Brock Yates, well that sucks that he got canned. Supply and demand I guess.

You are an idiot if you think that the president has *anything* to do with gas prices...
I enjoy the humor in the magazine comparos and odd-ball test vehicles, kind of a dry wit. I rarely read the soapbox pages though, and definitely gave up on Mr. Yates a long time ago. I wish him well with his onelap, it is a cool event. Bashing his old magazine on his website seems about what I would expect.
Yeah, the only reason I subscribe to Car and Driver is because of their humor.
Otherwise, as far as covering car tests and such, I like Road & Track better.
