Bugeye Grille options part 1

Chapel 02-07-2007 11:34 AM

Bugeye Grille options
I'm trying to determine what front grille I want
I was thinking about doing the STi grilles but before I throw down money, I want to see my options
I know of the two C-west grilles and the Zerosports one (which I don't like)

C-west 'intake grille'

C-west regular grille (not a huge fan)

Zerosports (I hate the holes)

Are there other options?
ThisizBrian 02-07-2007 11:40 AM

neither. get the sti grille.
Chapel 02-07-2007 11:43 AM

are there any more or is it just those 3?
BlaxTrax 02-07-2007 12:14 PM

I foud the WRC style. Its probably one of my favorites, but I'm having a really hard time trying to find it.
Handsdown 02-07-2007 12:15 PM

liberal

(looks like zerosports without the holes)

gtspec

(looks like zerosports but instead of holes, has two vertical vents)

genome, looks like stock but with a single middle pillar

Chapel 02-07-2007 12:21 PM

The Genome one seems to be the 'generic ebay' one for the most part
I want to find the GTspec and Liberal one now.
Handsdown 02-07-2007 12:24 PM

liberal vs. sti (liberal on right)

on capt.crunch's stiswapped v7

here's the GTspec, impossible to find anymore, basically the same as the liberal replica.

it's like a badgeless STi Sedan one. I kinda like that... cheap too. I wonder if there's an Subaru badge I could add to it

The Liberal one looks just like the GTSpec one... only $300 more...

$360...

I think I might just get the GTSpec one... for $60, it's a good deal. Looks very close to the STi Sedan grille
Chapel 02-07-2007 12:33 PM

where do I get the badges to fit onto it?
I don't like the 'badgeless grille' I'd want a Subaru logo in the middle.

I see the difference there, I'm torn between the two.
I like them both... one is $260... one is $60
do I like it $200 more (I'll have to have the liberal/GTspec one painted, but that's like $30-40 at my local guy)
Handsdown 02-07-2007 12:37 PM

you can get the badges from subaru, they're kinda expensive though. you can also just reuse the ones on your stock grill.

the liberal replica gt spec is pretty cool but it doesn't fit exactly right and sometimes warps along the bottom.
2mprzya 02-07-2007 12:38 PM

they have the cheap knock offs of the zerosport on ebay real cheap, and i was thinking of getting one and sanding it down and throwing some fiberglass on it to fill in the holes.
Handsdown 02-07-2007 12:39 PM

just get the gtspec liberal-replica, it's made in the same factory and doesn't have the holes.

how does the one from my stock grille work on it? Glue, zipties?
How bad is fitment on it?
Lexington 02-07-2007 12:47 PM

I have a liberal grille.

I used velcro through the mesh to hold a badge on... hasn't failed me yet.
Handsdown 02-07-2007 12:48 PM
how does the one from my stock grille work on it? Glue, zipties?

glue, and fitment isn't that bad, just sometimes the gap with the passenger headlight can be a few mm bigger than it's supposed to.

just get a flathead and pry the old badge off, it will have a little notch protruding from the top and you can sand that down and fit it on the mesh of the GTspec grill

i have the liberal replica grill and i just used 3M adhesive. it's on there good.
Chapel 02-07-2007 12:55 PM

oh, sweet
thanks guys
I think I'll go with the Liberal replica then. It's close enough to STi spec without running me broke. I can use that money for my brakes.

How about the Prodrive edition V7 one.

Shown here :D

Handsdown 02-07-2007 02:20 PM

yeah that's probably my favorite bugeye grill in the world^
Chapel 02-07-2007 02:20 PM

is that a grille or part of the bumper?
Handsdown 02-07-2007 02:21 PM

it's a grill, impossible to find anymore
Chapel 02-07-2007 02:22 PM

I want that bumper.
bren wrx 02-07-2007 02:23 PM

handdown u know i have a liberal sti, let me know when u fit a badge in it, i want to see if it looks clean or ghetto
handdown u know i have a liberal sti, let me know when u fit a badge in it, i want to see if it looks clean or ghetto
i don't know if i will, there's a bump in mine and i don't think i'll put it on anyway. i'm actually thinking of selling it.
Chapel 02-07-2007 02:38 PM

can you take a picture of where it gets bumpy?
if I get the GTspec replica, I might be able to fix it by bracing the back of where it 'wrinkles' with fibreglass.
Handsdown 02-07-2007 02:39 PM

you can see it in the previous picture- on the parking deck, right in the center it just bows up a bit.
Chapel 02-07-2007 02:42 PM

I wonder if that's why most companies do that center post...
kirkeemonster 02-07-2007 03:06 PM

where can you get the GTSpec / liberal grill at??

I have the GT-Spec grill and I put my badge on it... I cut the OEM emblem holder from the stock grille and sanded it down.

Then I popped out the emblem and drilled a hole through the emblem holder smack dab in the middle.

I then got a very long thin bolt that I put through the drilled hole and was long enough to reach back through the mesh. Then put a washer on the back of the mesh and a locking nut.

Glued the emblem back in the holder and voila!!

That pretty much looks like my car... I like what you did with the i badge there. Does it come with the mess crap or did you have to buy it?
Chapel 02-07-2007 09:47 PM

so, there's room for a bolt head between the emblem and the emblem holder.
Chapel 02-07-2007 09:51 PM

you know what I just thought might work better then the bolt?
drill 4 small holes in it (box corners)
2-4 zip ties through it
That should stabilize it too
The only concern I have with the bolt idea is it twisting.
Or combine the two ideas for maximum stability and strength
My only concern with cutting the original grille badge holder out is that I might want the stock grille later :(

so at ravspec they're 85, but they'll paint it for 40, so you can just stick it on when you get it. saves having to deal with another shop, especially if you don't already know anyone who does good paint
skate enjoi 02-09-2007 01:45 AM

how much does the cwest grill run (the one without the 3holes on each side)
Ryan314 02-09-2007 08:14 AM
