There is no humanly possible way that the flat black Subie didn't bust some stuff. I saw that on SS earlier and just about craped myself. Solid 5 feet of air. Got a list?

Thats Marvin Form the GC (Gravel Crew) Fact is, he is a bit sore, but will be driving his Rally Car to work tomorrow. I am amazed, yet so impressed. Marvin's only car, has 1 more payment on it, and that's how he puts it down? 1st practice jump he nails the landing perfectly. On both rally days he hits the lip at speed and gives the croud a show, then proceeds to the forest to lay down an 8th overall position, 2nd in class. I respect his decision to lay off the lip a 4th time to secure an excellent finishing position. He and his car could have done that all day long, but he is mature enough to think big picture, even when the croud is chanting Marvin, Marvin, Marvin. so to answer your question...list?

At my other job.
The decision to go to Rim was made in early April, and I couldn't easily get time off on such short notice. Since Jakke was available, it made sense to put him in the seat, and provide some additional feedback for Travis.
And yes, I am kicking myself.
Thanks for asking!

That shiiiitititie was awesome. Subaru should put pics like that in their commercials showing the subaru staying level and the Mitsu taking a nose dive and change their slogan to "Subaru: A Balanced Machine In Every Way"
Did you get any pics of Pastrana and the other Subie driver clearing the jump side by side? It was awesome to see the two subies start of the SS and take the jump like champs, but then it sucked to watch everyone else speed up to it slam on the brakes. I think there were only one or two other cars that went for the jump and one of them was a subie and I swear the co-driver threw the shocker out the window after the run.
And the Sheriffs Explorer smashing into the lifted F350 was absolutely hilarious. I wonder if that guys getting fired? Probably be stuck behind a desk for a long time if he doesnt.
did that wrx break all of it when he landed. hahahahaha that evo got f'd up. serves you right darkness
The only thing that broke was my windshield cracked. ANd it only was 2 inches long at the very bottom of the windshield. I'm not gonna lie that hit was hard, I felt every vertebrae touch as I landed. Just about knocked the wind outta me. I hit the jump the same exact speed all weekend long, I think what happened is that over time the cars that slowd down before the jump changed it a bit and put more of a kick to the lip. All I know is that in the air I thought I over jumped it. Oh well bring it on!!! I thought it was an X Games try out anyways.
Peace out
Marvin

P.S. THe struts that I am running are Tokico D-specs, front has Forrester springs and the rears are stock WRX springs. And I used the same struts all weekend.

He gets that from his motocrss experience, that's where you want to land after a "tabletop" jump, much smoother landing.

Yeah I made the decision from the beginning that coming up short was not an option, I learned that from racing BMX. On Friday we had 2 passes to make, to judge the speed and distance, I walked the jump and estimated it was somewhere in the 55-60ft. range. I got lucky the first time and hit it at around 65mph. My co-driver John (usually calm in the car) decided to yell oh f#%$, and grab onto the roll cage during the test jump. Man it was crazy, went from seeing the course to sky, crapping my pants to a 10 point landing. Was a great feeling knowing that I was the first one to clear the jump. And to hit it during the race in front of all those people was cool. Especially when we could hear the crowd while we were in the air the first time we jumped on a timed course. Great Rally and great pics I am glad you all like them and hopefully next year they put more than one jump in there. I would like to see 2 or 3 in a row kinda like a rhythm section. But I don't think a lot of cars would be willing to do that. Anyways if you are wondering my car is the flat black one.
Peace out

Ha ha, I wasn't expecting to see a picture of my car there. All I have to say is 1200 miles of freeway followed by a very dusty recce.
http://rally.cipherstrength.net:666/Rally%202006%20Season/Rim%20of%20the%20World%20Rally%20-%200428-2906/imagepages/image34.html
I was co-driving for Matt Johnston and unfortunatly we did not get to run very much of the rally. The car we were supposed to run never showed up, they kept running into problems, but the car was supposed to be at Oregon Trail the week before, so I'm not sure what was going on.
We were able to borrow Vartan Samuelian's Galant VR-4 for Saturday since his co-driver got very sick on Fridays stages. But the head gasket blew on stage 8 so we DNF'ed. Still 11th fastest on stage 8 with taking the last 2 or 3 miles easy since the engine was overheating is not too bad. Considering it was Matt's first time in an AWD turbo rally car.

Thanks, the only advice I can give is get some good suspension and try and over jump it. I hit that thing at around 60 mph. Oh yeah don't lift or hit the brakes before the lip cause you'll do what Amy did. That is also a reason why I don't have a front mount intercooler. Good luck.
I do, but I'm not the photographer, so I can't share it. Sorry!
I can get in touch with him and see if he wants to post a link to a full-size version, though.

Shoot me a PM if he wants to share it, that thing is awesome, toss a tag on it from him and it will be a popular background in no time flat :D
...P.S. THe struts that I am running are Tokico D-specs, front has Forrester springs and the rears are stock WRX springs. And I used the same struts all weekend.
wow! are they just-off-the-shelf d-specs?

Yeah just off the shelf D-Specs. We did build a gusset because in the early stages of testing the struts for rally we were bending the crap out of them. The struts would bend at the very bottom of the shock where it would bolt onto the hub. Really easy fix and cheap. Tokico is allowing us to keep testing them and showing them results. As of this year I have won one rally and placed second at Rim, both in class. We will be furthering our communications with the R&D department to maybe revalve the struts and get a more progressive and heavier spring. Our theory is that the strut is doing all of the work therefore overheating the struts about 3/4 of the way through the stages.
Right now we are running a Forrester spring up front and a stock WRX spring in the rear. It raised the front an additional 2". We put the Forrester up front to help with the approach angle for some of the dips and water-bars we incounter during a rally. I would really like to get a heavier spring onto the struts so that they will compliment each other instead of the strut doing all of the work. I guess we will see. Until then I am glad everyone likes the pics, I tried to put on a good show. And I am certain once we get the right combination of springs and struts, the landings will be a little bit softer. As you can tell we did hit pretty hard but it was not as bad as it could have been, no bouncing after we landed, pretty much planted and took off.
Peace out
