Cheap ebay carbon fiber hood. A+ quality

I know you all seen the carbon fiber hoods on ebay for cheap. A few weeks ago I was looking for some stuff and I seen one ending soon for 70.00 so I bid on it knowing i would lose. I ended up winning. paid 250.97 total shipped and I got it today. I couldnt believe the quality. No flaws at all. I was kinda scared because the picture was of a bug eye hood on the auction. I am going to be putting it on in about an hour when my brother gets home and i will take pictures and tell about the fitment. I just wanted to let people know about this guy if he sells anymore hoods. His name on ebay is mercman58. here i a pic after i unboxed it

Not trying to bash on you but I sure hope it stays intact in a wreck.. VIS hoods do but the $$ tag comes along with it

Any under hood pics? edges and corners? seems good.

I am going to take some pictures of it installed and under the hood tomorrow. its to dark out now

I like it, I have been tempted to get one but was unsure about the quality. Did it come with the STi scoop, or is just the normal WRX scoop.

its an sti scoop

I got an invidia new off ebay this week.. 467 shipped and insured.
We'll see how it looks when it comes.

for CF hood.. it all comes down to the carbon weave pattern..
the better the weave the straighter the pattern and better the carbon will look..
so main reason some are more expensive because the labor it takes to weave the carbon fiber is more costly.. the process can be more costly..
but in turns the carbon pattern reflects better..

nice hood....a pic under the hood would help. Are you able to bolt on the stock splitter/seal? I've heard stories of CF hoods not having holes to bolt the oe splitter.
| 04 Rex in DE | 04-21-2005 01:11 AM |
No there were not any holes for the stock spliter. We made our own and bolted it right up.
| garie | 04-21-2005 03:25 AM |
more pics pls...
but 250 shipped is a very nice deal for a hood. i would totally jump on that if i was into cf stuff.

Here are some new pics of the requested under hood and edges. Sorry they are so big. the car is a little dirty and i gotta reclean the hood cause of the tree next door. I know i will get comments about needing rims. they are on the way. By the way I am looking to trade the sti trunk i have on my car for a wingless if anyone wants to come trade. The thing on the first pic is a reflection of the tree next door. its not the actual hood

looks to me like a great fit, now you just need some wheels... asap. ;)
| CGM_WRX | 04-21-2005 01:12 PM |
Damn, nice find. Even the underside is finished off nicely. Looks like it may be on the heavy end of CF hoods, any idea how much it weighs compared to your stock hood?
Thanks
Thanks

whoa, looks pretty good. reminds me of Seibon's quality, does it utilize the factory bolts?

yeah it has all the factory bolts. only thing i had to do like i said was make a few holes to bolt up the intercooler splitter.

how light is it? is if fiberglass with carbon fiber weave on top?
based on my knowledge of cf, no cf hood should stay intact in a crash... it should shatter... would your stock hood stay intact? no it would crumple. why would you want it to stay intact? so it could flip up and catch the person flyin' out the wind shield? cf is sacraficial... that's one of the best safety features is offers (just like safety glass).
real cf does not shine nor does the pattern have to be perfectly straight, although if it is layed carefully that's a biproduct of good craftsmanship. dry carbon fiber is strongest lightest and if you have a shop put some clear on it it'll last nicely.
if you're getting wet cf... the only thing you should care about is how it fits (just about all cf looks the same unless you're really picky).

i was about to bid on one of these ebay cf hoods, but was really scared about the quality, and reliability. Ended up getting a VIS hood from local GB. I'm really glad to hear that there are some good quality body parts still available from ebay, not like those body kits from what i've heard!

Looks nice...I was looking around for a CF trunk and hoodscoop. I usually shy away from ebay deals but it looks like you have yourself a pretty nice piece there.

NICE !
word of advise :
MAKE SURE you use compression washers - so the bolts won't work themselves loose
specially on the hood latch (if you're using your OEM latch)
Most recommend hood pins as CF hoods tend to flex at higher speeds- also as safety
overall- looks like you got yourself a great deal !

Yeah, my Fiber Images hood that I had on my Civic before I got my WRX had minimal bracing and was not backed by fiberglass. It was a single sheet of CF that you could actually see through when held up to the light. That thing would flex like crazy on the freeway.

yeah i just drilled 4 holes in the underside of the hood and bolted it up

If anyone sees this, this dudes customer service sucks... It's been a while now and still no response to my emails, his new names probably because his old name is tainted now with negitive feedbacks about his hoods and poor customer service. It's easier to run away than to man up to his mistakes. If I ever to recieve my hood i'll post to see if 04 Rex in DE's hood was a fluke.

It did take a long time to get it. I didnt read that it says about 4 weeks for shipping.
| Wrekaro | 05-18-2005 09:09 PM |
I went through his feedback, and although he has a lot of good feedback the good scores he got were from a lot of the same people over and over. Not only that but most positive feedback came in the form of paintball gun sales.
| BlackWagon | 06-18-2005 01:51 PM |
**** this stupid sob, he wont give me a refund he wont give me another hood, he wants me to file claims that he should be filing. Now I have a ****ed up hood, if I wanted a ****ed up hood I could have stayed with the stocker that flew up on me. Stay the **** away from this stupid bitch, who cares if its 300 bucks, you'll probably end up with a ****ed up hood just like 75% of his hood buyers. I could give 2 ****s about all the cursing the filter will take out i'm ****ing pissed.

Back from the dead, after 3 hoods I finally got one that wasnt chipped up. Only after I filed somthing with paypal did they want to help me. The eric email is the one you want to deal with, I guess his wifes the one that gets paid to do nothing because she was sapose to send fedex to pick up the 2nd damaged hood but that hasnt happend yet. Erics great to deal with, everyone else can eat a penis.
Also look at my first post on this 5-16-05 that was 4 weeks into me paying for the hood, and its now 7-17-5 that it has been resolved. If you want to wait that long to get a hood its a deal. I ended up trading for a stock hood anyways...

Looks Awesome man!! I have a VIS hoods and it fit well and hasnt cracked or split yet its a well made hood. I was always scared to buy a CF hood or trunk from Ebay.
| 2slofouru | 07-17-2005 11:28 AM |
It doesn't matter if the weave pattern is not perfectly straight, unless you're going to sit and stare at it all day. If I get one, I will be painting it anyway. They look so rice with unpainted cf hoods. And even painted, they should be way lighter than the steel hoods.
| phaze826 | 07-17-2005 09:36 PM |
our hoods are aluminum
| 2slofouru | 07-17-2005 09:49 PM |
Sorry, I didn't notice he had a WRX. I was thinking he had an earlier model when he said something about the ebay picture being one of a "bugeye". I'm thinking of getting a cf hood unless I can find an aluminum one. A friend has an aluminum hood on his 93, I can't remember which car he got it from.
| kunfuzion | 07-18-2005 12:02 AM |
^^ any non-US market hood from 93-00 wrx should have an aluminum hood.

the only thing i would worry about over time is it fading, but you can always have it re cleared...seems to be a good deal!
