Colin McRae, not Constantinople: RALLY TURKEY starts 10/13!

So yeah, since Loeb is out with a "broken arm" (aka: his hard drive crashed) we might actually have a real rally!
Go Colin!

Looks like Kronos will have a good change of losing the manf championship.
Groholm 1st
Mikko 2nd
Petter 3rd (Loeb got all his bad karma)
Henning 4th
Atikinson 5th
Gardimiester 6th
Stohl 7th
Sordo 8th

on a tandam bicycle.
CN is asking that snow be imported so everyone has a chance. he will be the first driver to actually lap someone in WRC!

Good to see McRae back where he belongs. Rumor is he's looking for a ride for '07...but we saw how that panned out when he was looking for one for '06. :(
Marcus will still win though.

It's always wicked to see McRae back. His performance with Skoda in his last outing was outstanding despite the final problems he ran into. I expect to see some good results being that he is driving the Xsara again.

Go Colin. I really want him to be 3rd or 2nd with Marcus on the top.
Of course i wouldn't mind if Petter was on the top but Colin needs to be on the podium :)

from rally-live.com
News after SS8:
Phaselis is the longest stage of the rally, at just under 30km. Once again Petter Solberg took the stage victory, beating his brother Henning by 2.1 seconds.
It's a very good day. The car is great and I feel confident, mentioned Petter Solberg.
Marcus Gronholm was the only one to come close to the two brothers' time, the Ford driver finishing third, just seven tenths behind Henning. The Finn's lead over Petter Solberg is now 28 seconds.
Mikko Hirvonen set the fourth fastest time, eight seconds slower than Petter Solberg. Most importantly, the Finn is now threatened by Henning Solberg. Hirvonen is third in the race standings but Henning Solberg is only one tenth of a second from catching the young Ford driver.
Chris Atkinson gained two places in the race standings. The Subaru driver achieved the fifth best time in SS8, enough to promote him to sixth overall, 14.4 seconds behind Kosti Katajamaki.
Once again the Kronos drivers are barely scratching the bottom of the top ten.
Colin McRae who admitted making the wrong tyre choice - dropped from fifth to seventh overall after setting the ninth quickest time, 36.9 seconds slower than Petter Solberg.
Xevi Pons was slightly faster than the 1995 World Champion, taking eighth place, three tenths of a second adrift on Harri Rovanpera. The Spaniard lost one position in the general standings and now finds himself in eighth place.
Dani Sordo had to settle for the twelfth fastest time, behind Manfred Stohl (10th) and Francois Duval (11th). Sordo is already 2:30.5 away from the leader, eleventh overall behind Francois Duval.

Yeah, I feel bad for him. He seems a geniunely nice guy, and was really looking good at the beginning of the year. The crash in Cyprus was nbd, if unpleasant for all involved, but that off in Finland was "Oooooooof!" big. Add to that the Japan unpleasantness, and it's really adding up!
I think being the Citroen #2 driver must be very hard!

"Who does #2 work for!?"
Sorry couldn't resist.
I think he was brought up too quickly and it got him. Kronos thought they were amking the right choice since Pons wasn't producing, but Dani was too green IMO. I was surprised they put him in #2 this season. I was figuring they'd have waited until next season.
I am sure he will rebound but it may have hurt alot more than it helped. Instead of him going into 07 with a good season under his belt, he will be going in with a shaken confidence. I hope he can shake it off and come back strong.

5 Stage wins, and only 34 seconds back--but now retired from the rally after hitting a rock on a transit road before SS15. At this point, I'm not surprised by anything that happens to Petter.

He hit it on TRANSIT? .... wow.

I wonder how long it will be until Eurosport has a 'SWRT Transit Adventures' feature?

man, this season has had some really bad luck for drivers :( petter's had terrible luck all season long and then sordo's seemed to catch some of it recently within the last handfull of rallies. hopefully next season will hold better luck for them.

If there's a silver-lining in any of this, Petter scored 7 stage wins in this rally.

Congrats to Henning Solberg on his first WRC podium :D
OMV Peugeot's Henning Solberg finished on the podium in the WRC for the very first time on the Rally of Turkey on Sunday, when he brought his 307 WRC car home in third.
Henning was in contention for a solid result from the off and eventually took the final place on the rostrum by just over 20 seconds. The Norwegian was extremely emotional at the finish and even admitted to having shed a tear or two, after his co-driver, Cato Menkerud was also overcome at the finish, following the 28.55 kilometre-run through Olympos that brought the event to a close.
"I think it's the first time we have cried in the car, two tough guys. Cato started crying, so I had to join him," said Henning. "It's not easy being the big brother to Petter, but I'm catching him step by step.
"I always try to fight. You can never give up. On the penulimate stage a brake pipe broke in the car. I have been a mechanic since I was six years old, so I worked hard and fixed it. We weren't very fast, but we could make it and I'm very happy with third place. It feels very good to be close to Petter. He has all the experience on all these rallies and it feels good to be closer to the top. It's not easy, you have to work hard." :D
