Just how hot are your shift knobs getting in this summer heat?

This summer is hot and getting hotter. The sweltering heat has has lit up my shift knob by the time i get off work. I have the momo knob and it gets so hot that I can't even touch it after work. Now I put a towel over it but it still is pretty hot. Anyone else have a burning hot shift knob?

I cook bacon on mine

TR shift knob FTW.
Mine doesn't get hot at all.
I had a Hurst shifter on my 4runner and that got sooo hot in the summer and super cold in the winter.

Mine too. I usually just shift by grabbing around the boot for extra short, extra cool shifts... until the knob cools off at least

I have a silver prodrive knob and it never gets hot enough to bother me.
That or I'm so numb from work I don't notice it burning my hand at the end of the day.

^^^ truer words never spoken
i had a kartboy at first and loved it but in winter it was just way to cold to keep using, so i switched to the lgt and could not be happier

When it's too hot I simply cover mine with a baby sock.

i've got the stock leather knob and it doesn't get hot at all.

hmm, how hot is it... I've got the oem STI shift knob, I also have an STI logo burnt into my palm.
| DrD | 07-13-2006 09:33 PM |
I have the subaru cf one - never really gets that hot to the touch. (well, no hotter than everything else in the car after it sits baking in the sun all day in the desert...)
| Silverboost | 07-13-2006 09:38 PM |
i wish i could tell you how hot mine gets. but my car is still in the shop. but one day ill post and let you know.
| hikeeba | 07-13-2006 09:56 PM |
My black kartboy gets hot in my car that doesn't have tinted windows, but it is never too hot to handle. The cold is way more bothersome, but an infant footie sock fixes that.

I use them everyday, plus 20% tint on the other windows. it was 103 in NM after work, car was just fine. I cant understand why people dont use these.

Probably depends on the knob. mine is hot to the touch for like 10 minutes when i get in and go after the car sitting in the sun all day. I have never had a problem with it being too cold.
| "B" | 07-13-2006 10:43 PM |
05 STi knob is fine. Then again, I hate it, it's rattling, and doesn't feel good. Don't know why I don't have the knuckleball on yet.
| Local_Skater | 07-13-2006 10:48 PM |
One time mine got to 1000000000000000000000000 degrees, so I threw it in the sun to make it cool off a little.
For real though, I've still got the stocker leather one on my L, and sometimes it gets pretty hot, but never to the point you're describing.

My Prodrive shift knob - which is metal - doesn't get hot at all, even in the Florida sun sitting in a parking lot for 6 hours. It gets warm, but not hot.
| subie freak | 07-13-2006 11:02 PM |
i have the sti black shift knob for the 5 speed and it seems to be ok in the summer so far. just feels warm but not hot.
| J-Chow | 07-13-2006 11:03 PM |
My Razo titanium shift knob burns the hell outta me. But it only scorches for about 5-10 minutes
| powerlabs | 07-13-2006 11:14 PM |
My momo knob gets pretty hot, but its manageable by shifting with 2 fingers. It doesn't get too terribly cold in winter either, and I live where it can get below 0F.
My Sparco pedals though... OUCH!!! I like to drive barefoot, but lately it just isn't happening :(

| Dooley | 07-14-2006 12:04 AM |
i think mine would burn the momo logo on the palm of my hands if i were to hold onto it for more than 5 secs.
| Gairloch | 07-14-2006 12:11 AM |
I'll stick with leather thank you. The idea of a metal knob sounds interesting but I don't wanna deal with having to keep a sock in the car.
| D.V.S | 07-14-2006 12:15 AM |
yea have the same problem but on a different car, had to use my shirt but still.. crazy momo :furious:

| Joe_M | 07-14-2006 02:33 AM |
My black Prodrive gets so hot that the glue holding the emblem on it has completely vaporized. I have to carry a towel in the passenger side seat to shift gears coming home from work.
If it wasn't so lazy about it, I would just put my HKS knob back on it for the summer, I mean, it is sitting in the glovebox begging to be put back on.

My sparco gets pretty hot but I've got chef's hands so it's no big deal. Also the heat keeps me from resting one hand on the shifter where it shouldn't be anyway.
| ControlFreak | 07-14-2006 05:35 AM |
I have a black prodrive, it does'nt get that bad, the 35% tint REALLY helps that though.
| onelostsoldier | 07-14-2006 08:34 AM |
I have the half brush alum, half leather momo. I think I have the circles and momo perm burnt into palm.

This won't eliminate the heat from the summer heat or the coldness of arctic winters, but for a couple of bucks, it keeps your hand from being seared or frostbitten ;)

i leave the car in the garage all day...
ride my bike the 0.9miles to work, and drive around at night for fun when its nice n cool out.
keeps my super-knob cool to the touch. This one is pretty narrow, so it didnt even get too unbearably hot last time it was outside! Used a sunshade also

GReddy knob gets hot like a frying pan. If I'm home, I just bring an icepack out to cool it down to the point where it doesn't burn.It works lol..

My Black Prodrive is near impossible to touch. I actully point teh AC vents down to it when I get in the car and shift using teh boot. Cant wait to see what its like in the winter.
And the funny thing is, the shifter has gotten so hot that the prodrive emblem just falls off. Superglue FTW.

my top secret knob gets burning hot when i forget to put my sunshade up. lol, other than that, its not bad normally. during winter however, it gets cooooold!
| Gheorghe | 07-17-2006 09:32 AM |
My STi titanium knob get super hot in the heat where I can't touch it but I use the "grab the shifter by the boot technique" for about 10 minutes of driving. Same but opposite in the winter too, when it gets super cold outside I can't shift using the knob because it feels like dry ice. I love it though and am not complaining.
| WRXDriftR | 07-17-2006 10:08 AM |
gloves ftw? i always use my isotoners in the winter.
summer... well i can try the hot-tamales approach or put a pouch over it

answer...
15 tint 4 side windows and rear glass.
9inch, 5 (limo) drop tint on windshield
1 reflective windshield screen thingy
= all interior surfaces stay cool. You can save gas too! Your a/c will have to work less to keep your car cool in the summer ;)

My greddy ctr is like touching a stove top, when I get out of work.. Im deff. picking one of those thingies up. I used to wrap a napkin around it lol till it cooled down a little, then I went bare hand like normal.

Im using a leather shift knob and I have no issues letting my car out in the sun for 8 hours and then coming out and touching it. Yeah, it's hot, but not the kind of heat that doesn't dissipate quickly, it's normal again after about 5 minutes of shifting (not holding it, if you hold it it goes faster)

My car is outside 100% of the time and I have no problem. I the MOMO. Maybe it is I park under a tree at home, and I get done with work at 2am.

Can you buy the prova anywhere now? I think I remember reading that it was discontinued.
