Dressing up....a wagon??
Yes, thats right. I have a 1997 wagon that I want to modify.
First. I am looking for a roof spoiler that hopefuly wont cost me my first born!
Second. Any one install the whiteline springs on a wagon? I would like those but I don't want to drag the a$$ end of my car on the ground (since the rear is heavier than a sedan or coupe).
Erik
P.S. If you have pics of modified wagons, please post them!!!

Do a search on modified wagons? There is a thread going on right now with a bunch of crazy looking wagons.

I've got a 98 OBS wagon, and I'm fixing it up.
Mine is black the top two thirds, and grey the bottom third.
Have gone with dark titanium window tinting on two back sides and rear. I put on a set of Konig Verdict 17 in rims with Black Opal finish. Also a set of Champiro (Dunlop) 205 45 x 17" tires.
Have ordered clear side marker lights, will put in amber bulbs, don't know if I'll smoke the lens or not.
The brakes suck so I'm starting with Goodridge brake lines, then probably go for a master cylinder bracket, just as a starter. Eventually want to get bigger rotors (possibly STI on the front) and replace the drum rears with discs (possibly RS's).
Then I want either a cold air or ram air injector. Will be opening the vents on the hood in either case.
I want to go with euro clear side lenses on front, clear headlight lenses, and somekind of clear unit on back, although they are real expensive.
I've checked out stock spoilers for the top rear, they are just too damned expensive. Anything new is over $300 bucks, if you can find one used (dangerous), they'll still be over a bill and a half, and you've got priming prepping and painting. Had one guy ready to send me one, then he found out it was damaged. I like the spoilers they put on the BMW "wagon" and may try to track down something like that.
Going to get the top of the windshield tinted in a few minutes, don't know what color yet (don't know whether to match the grey bottom, or the titanium windows.
Eventually will get a new front end, probably RS style and play that role. Just got to get all the money.
As soon as I can get some pix, I'll put mine on.

Ron, here is a link to a company here in MI that makes replica OBS roof spoilers, primed and ready to paint for $99.99 + shipping. On the count of three, everyone say "thank you" to Brian (North Ursalia) for the link!

Working on my wagon here as well.
It's a 2000 OBS. Silverthorne on top and Titanium on bottom.
The 22b Bumper, Lip, and Grill all go on once I get them painted (this week or next week).
Already have a set of Enkei CDR-9's (17") with Kumho 712's 205's on it.
I've cleared out the side markers, and the front is clear once I mount the 22b bumper. The 2000's came with the roof and waist spoiler pre-attached (YAY).
I also put on a "VW" style FubaTech anttena in the middle of the roof. Drilling a 15mm hole into a perfectly good roof is scary, but strangely fun =)
I'm going to razor off and paint over the whole for the original antenna once I get the cash to do it.
Of course there are the performance mods coming as well, but since it's a wagon, I'm going with Form over Function. But the fucntion is going to include.
- Turbo Kit (won't be going the EJ20T route, I'm going to turbo the 2.2, just like the 22b)
- Coil Overs
- Other assorted engine goodies, flywheel, clutch, etc.
I've modded the inside with a silver trim and installed Indiglo gauges (I love them!) and also have a pretty rockin stereo system installed.
2 RockFos 10's powered by Earthquake Amps. Inifinity Kappa all around the doors, also amp powered. Head is a Sony MP3 car player.
So it's been a labor of love, but coming together slowly and surely...
I'll post pics once the front end is on the car!

Hey Jersey, I like where you are headed. We both seem to have similar ideas.;)
Digital; I can't wait to see the 22b front end. Did you get it from chalenger deep?
So far, I have only done a few small things to my car. 15 inch 1994 legacy turbo mags (5 spoke). Clear corners. I also put on the STI ver 6 front grille and pink star emblem. The grille is awsome and changes the look in a nice subtle way. Highly recomended. And of course I installed myself some tunes (Alpine cd head, Nakamichi 4 channel amp, Audio Control x-over and Boston sub and speakers).
Keep the ideas comming!!:alien:

oh, yeah, forgot to mention the Alpine head, infinity speakers in the doors, fosgate sub amp and JL10" woofer in a big box. most of the time don't even have the amp pushing the woofer, it gives me a headache. Set bass at about 1 on the head and that's plenty.
Just had the top of the windshield done in the same 9% Titanium as the other windows, "lookeeng guuuud".
More later.

Finally the Impreza wagon is gettgin some tuners...I think it might be in part of the new WRX Wagon but none the less, Im glad we are all getting together.
The best thing I can think of is to make the GF8 Impreza wagon into the Australian/Asian WRX version.
So to get all the clear lights the bestplace that i can see would be teaguesauto.com, only because they seem to be one of the few places that deal with the WRX wagon rear lights, which are indeed a different shape than the normal Impreza. Teaguesauto also has official STi rear Spoilers, both high spoilers and waist Spoilers...but because they are STi they are very pricey....though they look stunning, If you are not familiar with what they look like imagin the normal high spoiler for a wagon, but imagine it extending about 4 more inches, and the waist spoiler is longer so that it almost wraps around the sides of the back. Very nice:D THere are a few companies on Subiegals website that have STi spoilers for wagons to...though i'm not quiet sure on this.
Obviously the ver 6 bumper can be bought from numerous places, so can all the other stuff, sway bars, shocks, stickers exct.
As for an Engine...well thats a different matter. I'm thinking about putting my spare 2.5 DOHC in, but that will come later. Turbo=ing the 2.2 is good and so is getting an STi replacement, or keep it N/A there all good options.
So bottom line, It's great that there seems to be a movement towards sports wagons, nothing like beating a car on a track day in a wagon, espcaily if you put one of those "baby on board" signs in the rear window.
I have been doing alot of research into this concept, so if anyone has an ideas questions, or comments please let me know. At or PM me here.
Thanks,
Stu

Hey guys!
I'm MORE than willing to get any info you all need to get the waist spoilers going for your wagons. Just give me some specifics of what you need measured and I will measure them up and get them out to you guys to send off to the replication guys.
Wagon power baby!
Cardin555: I actually got my 22B bumper through a roundabout source. It's had two homes previous and never been mounted, LOL. Not sure where the original came from but it's in GREAT shape and ready to roll. The Grill and Lip I got from Dutch on the boards here, can't wait till they are mounted up as well. It will definately be a bit unique!
I also got eyelids I'll be popping on as well. Should make the front end pretty agressive looking!
Send me what you need guys and I'll measure it up! Paying 300-900 bucks for a waist spoiler is a pretty damn rough chunk of change to justify. So anything I can do to help you all out I'm more than ready to do!

As for Subaruparts.com, stay ontop of those guys regarding your order, quite often orders can fall between the cracks and disappear if they not reminded about them.
As for importing a car...If its a working car and is ready to roll once it arrives, its very difficult, but not impossible, as for importing a damaged one, i think it might be difficult but not as difficult as importing a whole one, providing you can prove that it is only going to be used for parts, I've heard the best way todo this is to literally have the car cut in half. This garantees that it wont be driven around illegally and so on. The basic problem the Government has is; emissions and 5MPH front and rear bumpers.
Obviously, with most government regulations there are loop holes, say if you work overseas for the military of something like that.
With the Website I posted, It would be best if you bought the car and them asked them to chopoff the bits and have them send them over....or go overthere yourself and do it, England is a great place to visit, A Subaru Mecca if you will, It might even be cheaper to do this than pay freight for one to come overhere and then pay for all the taxes and drama to show that the car is not for road use.
Other than these ideas there is little we can do, but feel free to do a search, I know this importing idea has been passed around alot, im sure there are aspects i am missing. Also ask the guys on the STi mailing list about importing, there are a few pros' who know that kinda stuff there. I myself am going by memory, so I might not be 100% on my facts.

Right on about Subarusports.com. I placed my first order with them, they lost it for 6 days, I sent them two emails that they didn't respond to, I finally got them on the phone and they admitted they lost the order, sent the order express the next day.

DigitalRonin, if you look at the link that I posted above for the upper spoiler, you will see a little picture on the Spoilers4Less website that shows the dimensions of the upper spoiler. I would assume that they would need all of those dimensions (length width and hieght) in addition to where the mounting points are. I believe there is one directly in the center of the wing, and then if you could measure out to the other mounting points on each side, that should suffice. Well, let's start there and I will email or call them with that info and see if they need anything else. Thanks, man. Feel all the wagon love?;)

DigitalRonin, dsmawd is correct! They are looking for the dimensions and the MOUNTING POINTS specifically. The only other dimension they might want would be the thickness of the spoiler at center point and possibly at either end.
Thanks for the help, dude.
Great to know that I'm not the only one that thought wagons were at least as hot as the coupes and sedans.

wagon owners unite
Once again its good to know that there are a bunch of people interested in modifying their wagons. If anybody has installed an RS bumper on their wagon please email me. I am looking at doing my installation myself all I have to do is get the reinforcement and save up to get the rest of the Outback paint scheme off. If you guys find out about the waist spoiler let me know I know of about 3 people who would probably be in on that. Who knows maybe we can all start a group buy? Thanks for the info guys and please keep the modified wagon threads going.

Guys, if that place every needs "x" amount of people to order a waist spoiler for them to go ahead and start making it, count me in for sure!!! That would be incredible to get one for $99.
| jersey judge | 11-01-2001 06:19 AM |
all we need to do is get the measurements to them, and they will check to see what they can do.
The top spoiler for $99 is unvelievable, most of the quotes I got for it were over $300.
whenever dsmawd can get the dimensions etc. , even if he just sends them to me, as I've spoken with someone there and can relay the info. I'll also tell them there is more interest and see what kind of response I get.

I've got to echo what dsmawd said, there hasn't been any statement from the potential supplier that they could do it for ANY price, much less for $99. They're asking for measurements and specs on the waist spoiler for the OBS wagon (we don't have them yet), then they'll do some homework and quote us IF they can do it, when it could be available and for how much.
Till then we're still waiting to get some specs from DigitalRonin, or anyone else who's got them. Looks like we've got at least a half dozen people interested so far, with almost no effort.
Just waiting for the specs so we can bring them to the supplier

Digital, thanks man, we owe you a beer sometime!
Ron, yeah, I'll let you know when I find that money tree!;)
Caron, that wagon looks great, it is nice to see that we here in NA aren't the only ones that get all that damn orange plastic! Next order of business after everything I mentioned above will be to find some red/clear taillights for less than $320/set!

modify a subaru wagon
As far as I could tell, if you look at the webpage for whiteline, they will have two listings. One for the sedan and one for the wagon. They have it available to the 2002 impreza and I think the same could be said for the old body style.
Additionally, you could also go to SPO, I have read about them in the recent sports compact car magazine and they have all the mods from performance to handling. They seem pretty good, but I haven't purchased anything from them. Yet. So if anyone can give feed back on that, that will be of help.

Get back up there!
Hey, Ron. Have you heard from Digital, yet? I really wanna get the ball rolling on this. I've got a feeling that getting Spoilers4Less the dimensions will be the first step in a rather long process. Oh, well, I've waited this long for a waist spoiler, I guess I can wait awhile longer, besides, its almost winter.

exchanged messages with him offline the other day. Gave him all the specs that spoilers4less would probably need. I'm sure he'll get back as soon as he gets the right info for them. Yeah, xmas is coming, so maybe it'll be an easter present!!! (if we get lucky).
I'll let everyone know

Where can you get the Liberal kits and what is their homepage?

Do a search on "wagon body kit" from "vividracing" (member name). There are pix of the Liberal kit. Vividracing is selling them now.

Digital Ronin sent me a message. He's working on getting real dimensions for the OBS wagon spoiler.
He may have them in a few days.
Not a real easy job

Hey Suberboy, the rear bumper is the same for all the imprezas from 93 to 01 regardless of body style.
I am also very interested in the spoiler. The roof one for sure. I have to wait and see for the waist spoiler.
One question. The replicas that we are talking about; are they the STI versions or the outback sport ones.

I don't know the difference between the spoilers, but the website at www.spoilers4less.com shows a picture of one of the top spoilers on the car, you can make it larger, and it also shows a diagram of the spoiler with dimensions that you can also blow up.
I took the dimensions and measured against my OBS rear window, and found that the entire wing fits on the glass part of the rear door. It doesn't mount on metal at all. Also fits with what they told me, that it mounts with a super adhesive from 3M (I think) and they haven't had any failures with this kind of system.
Ron:)

Good news, Ron. Glad to hear it. The roof spoiler on the STi versions is different (much bigger) than the one that Spoilers4Less is selling. No one makes a replica of this AFAIK, and the real deal costs ~$800!!! Ouch. I believe that the waist spoiler on the STi models is the same as the ones on our wagons.

smoked corner lights on liberal kit?
Does anybody know where to get or how to make the smoked corner lights that on in the liberal GF8 wagon. I would like to get morettes but I don't want to have clear corner lights on a black headlight assembly. Let me know about the waist spoiler I am definitely interested. Thanks

K2, I would imagine those are just the normal clear corners that have been painted with transparent paint. I have seen people paint the orange on their tail lights red. Just a guess. That car lives in Japan, so I don't think we can ask the owner!:p

Question for any of you with a MY98 OBS wagon. AWD, Frt Discs, Rear Drums, ABS.
I'm trying to get Goodridge brake lines for my car. NOPI tells me they don't have them, and Goodridge says THEY don't make them. THeir catalogs lists for ABS w/4 Discs, or for NON ABS w/rear drums. They also have a listing for Outback but they aren't sure they will fit my configuration.
Can anyone help me with this, I've been trying to track this for 4 days, including writing to SubieGal. No response yet.
Thanks, Ron

I dunno, Ron. Does ABS make a difference in the brake lines? I don't see why it would. I KNOW my car has rear drums and ABS, just like yours. Why don't you just upgrade the rears to discs?;) Seriously, I would ask them what is different about the lines for cars with ABS. However, if you ARE planning on doing the rear disc upgrade (like me), you might want to hold off on the lines, because the lines for the drums WILL NOT work with disc brakes.

p.s. Everyone please notice it is spelled "brakes" I have seen a ton of "brake" posts where people have spelled it "breaks" several times (so it wasn't just a one-time typo). I know it is anal, but it drives me nuts!:p

Trent, I'm planning on doing the front AND rear sooner than later, but I want to do just a little cosmetic (side lights and spoilers), a little performance (CAI or something close to it), brake lines and maybe the master cylinder bracket. I've done the wheels and tires, so that will all bring me over a couple of grand. The brake upgrade will be somewhere over 2 grand also, unless I can find some parts at a junky's (although this is against my nature entirely).
I've also got a 71 Lemans GT37 Station Wagon that has me spending money once in a while, a wife, two kids and 3 other cars. I've got to plan ahead.
I figure the brake lines will make the brakes better until I can get some of the other stuff done first. If I have to blow another 50 to 100 bucks next year or the year after, I'm okay with it, cuz I've got MOST of what I have to have for now. (I wish I owned a piece of the US Mint!!!!!)
Goodridge is checking the fitting part numbers and line lengths to find out what they can. If I can't get a set of lines then my priorities will change and I'll get the rear drums changed first. Boy won't that mess up my plans!!
Thanks, Ron

I understand, just wanted to make sure you were thinking about replacing the SS lines after you did the rear brakes.
Junk yard parts are looking better and better. I found a guy here in MI that will pull all the parts from a '98 Legacy and sell them to me for $250 for both sides! Pretty damn cheap! Then later I can decide if I want to go to Wilwoods or something.

$250 for both rear brakes! Great deal, I'm jealous. And from a '98 not some POS 1990 with 300,000 miles.
Let me know if he happens to have another set turn up.

He had more than one late model Legacy in the yard, he said. The number is 1-800-695-1021, ask for Bob. He said that he just got in about 5 SVXs, too, in case you know anyone looking for parts from an SVX. The website is www.merasian.com.

:( Haven't heard from Digital Ronin yet, hope he hasn't forgotten us!!!! I know that the belt line spoiler has some dips and turns and might not be real easy to get a tracing on, but I hope he's trying.
Gave up on the brakes for now. After finding out that the console, front seats, rear seats had to come out, and that the carpet had to be rolled back, figured I didn't have the inclination to do it right now (the garage is COLD already), and I didn't want to spend about $400 to 500 for my buddy the mechanic to do it, so I've scrubbed for now. With new parts running about $500, it was just a bit much to look at just before Xmas, seeing as I've got two kids and will be travelling for at least part of the holidays.
It'll just have to wait till next year, sometime.
BTW, SubieGal figured out that all I needed was standard OBS lines that are the same as some other ones, and I ordered a set of Goodridge lines from her for $97.50. At least I got over ONE hurdle.

Hey all...
I haven't forgotten and I'm sorry it's taking so long.
It looks like in order for me to get this done right I'm going to have to remove the waist spoiler. I have some "rough" measurements (like the overall width and heigth) but the problem is that the mounting points are curved to follow the curvature of the trunk and I cant get how long the surface area is as I would have to measure along the curve. I know if we don't get these guys the right measurements 1 of 2 things are going to happen
1. They won't even bother
2. They will make ones that totally don't fit right
My garage has been getting used to paint my new grille and other components (as well as house the woman's car...ahem...yeah). But I'll be able to get this thing off (hopefully) and trace and measure to get an accurate representation of what the spoilers measurements are. I'll also take pics that we can send to the guys from all the angles so they have a "pseudo" working model to work with.
