Flame Kit

I guess this is the right forum to post this?
I already did a lot of searching, here and google, and only found one other thread about this. I also know lots of people are going to be against this idea and I know that I can run rich/ catless with a straight through and get similiar results but they don't come cheap and at the press of a button.
Call it rice, call it worthless, but I want an exhaust flame kit. Something like this one: http://www.auto-e-shop.com/
For $30, this thing is awesome!
Has anyone done one on their Suby? If so, do you have pics or install pics?
Before you call me a ricer, both of my Subarus are/ have been tastefully done. Here is my car now:

so you tastefully done your car and now you want to ruin it by torching your car? I doubt theres anyone here that did flame kits on their subi... maybe you could try it out and tell it how it looks? Oh, dont forget the heavy decals and neon lights...
One more thing, wear a flame suit...

Don't be a ricer. Get a catless turbo back and have your car retuned. You'll be shooting fireballs on the 1-2 shift no problem.

Looks cool to me.
As long as it's for show use, and not the highway. =) It would be a good response to tailgaters though!

ok seriously guys he didn't design his car for you he's doing it for himself and last time i checked none of you paid for his car so none of you have a damn thing to say about what he does to it....if you don't like it don't be a dick and don't be rude simply DON'T LOOK AT HIS CAR...
Anyways dude in order to get a flame kit you cannot have any cat's on ur car... Secondly you have to know that they are illegal in all 50 states and here in canada.
i assume you know how these work if not then i'll repost but you do run the risk of torching the back of ur car, personally i wouldn't do it to my subaru but Flame throwers are sweet none the less....Fire rocks LOL!!

I am already catless but do have the stock axle back ('05). I realize they are illegal but so is purging/using nitrous and I see lots of people doing that on the open road. I figure a little flame use here and there for show off purposes would be pretty cool.
Imagine if you saw a wagon pass you on the highway at night with 8 ft flames spewing out that back! Oh and I am 21.
So no one has installed one of these before? Not even on a hot rod or something?

So if you are catless, get a BOV and you will shoot flames. They wont be 8 foot blow torches, but then again I dont see why you would want that. I have seen walk through installs, and it is relatively simple(Propane tank, Elec. Regulator, spray nozzle, etc). I would just be very skeptical about having a propane tank in my car at all time, and my Dad owns a propane company
Personally, if I saw your wagon shoot a 8 ft flame I would probably laugh more than be impressed. After seeing them on every car in F+F, I am convinced that they are rice if you arent driving a hotrod
PS: I doubt that Gemballa 750 EVO has a flame kit. It is probably just shooting some mean flames from teh huge turbos and catless pipes

hey d-speed, i hear you. i am young and enjoy a good kick. so what the hell it is only 30 bucks..why not do it? some call it rice some call it cool, but today i was almost hit from behind by a tailgater... so i would have used it then. for 30 bucks you cannot go wrong. if you exhaust extends even a 1/2 inch past your bumper you will be good. i may order one for myself.
| sonicsuby | 08-14-2005 02:05 AM |
Have fun when the tailgater contacts local law enforcement saying you just shot flames at them. I'm sure the highway patrol in your area will just get a kick out of it.

Well, in the end it will cost you more than 30 bucks, what with bail and getting your car out of the impound lot and all.

ill bet it is just a relay and spark plug.
save yourself 25 bucks and go to radioshack and get a 12v relay, then walmart for a super cheap spark plug.

cops around here are no hassle for me. never had issues and know them all on a first name basis. i am not concerned in the least about it. if you are tailgating you deserve it. it would however be used mostly at shows and what not. thanks for the concern all.

Wow, I haven't checked back to this thread in awhile. I realized before even posting that most of you were going to be against the idea. I'm going to use the kit for messing around with people at local meets, etc. After some more research, the flames are only going to be about 1-2 feet which is completely tolerable.
Oh and I have a 100% atmospheric BOV and I'm catless, no flames. But I will soon at the push of a button!

nothing wrong with a flamethrower kit on your car. its one of those show and tell things that people can do. not like it will be shooting flames everywhere u drive.
i almost bought an 05 Evo 8 that the owner had. he put a flamethrower kit on it for fun with a nice turboback exhaust. he was gonna sell it to me for a decent price. i couldnt work out a deal for an evo period so i went with a WRX elsewhere. the flamethrower on it was awesome! it was just used for shows and stuff, not for the streets.
if u wanna flame your car for show and tell, go for it. it makes u different. who cares what people think. hell the honda guys with non-painted ground effects kits and stickers dont care what anyone thinks.
Why not? Every anti-lag video I've seen with Subaru's has them blowing fireballs much like those pictured. Where you at the competition?
If you knew anything about how antilag works, you would realize that is almost entirely unlikely that they are using it. These cars are probably using nothing more than a spark plug in the exhaust pipe. Antilag uses a controller that dumps fuel into the cylinders and retards the ignition timing at idle to allow the exhaust ports to be slightly open at the combustion cycle. This allows a flame to escape the combustion chamber and ignite the unburnt fuel in the exhaust to keep the turbo "spooled" up. This system requires a turbo/exhuast or motor rebuild so frequently it would be totally impractical to have this kind of thing running on a street or show car (or whatever those cars are) like that. Or who knows, maybe I'm TOTALLY wrong.
Here is antilag. Notice the difference...

Update: Purchased but not hooked up. They are not recommended on a chamber muffler design. They say that an explosion is possible with a stock muffler. Fireballs will have to wait until I get my straight through muffler. :( I will update this thread again when I'm shooting flames!

Wow, just wow.

To reiterate, don't use a chambered muffler!!!!!
just in case you forget.
Almost none of those cars from the JAP car show are shooting flames using antilag.

You just have to love a proper tuned ALS on a Scooby. Autronic SM-2 rocks as does the Pactel, Motec, and Haltec systems.

you should use a switch instead of a button and shoot flames everytime you drive..just one constant flame al the time. and then you should tell you laptop to shut up while your floor board falls out creating massive sparks and then you blow the welds on the intake :p
