updated wagon templates

Hi all,
I've updated the templates and moved them 1/2 inch lower on driver's and passenger's side like I said I would in the readme file.
Here's the two new gifs:

PLEASE NOTE these templates are for the GG wagon. NOT for the GD sedan. If someone is willing to volunteer their GD sedan I can probably make some up for the sedan sometime.
Also, some have reported printing problems.
Please click on the below two links directly, and print LANDSCAPE 8.5" by 11" and you should be fine.

| prelude/2.5rs | 10-28-2003 11:28 AM |
As far as the plugs go, what I did is used normal female plugs snipped in half. They were a bit too wide for the Marker male plugs. I snipped the female sides in half and they fit very snug onto the markers.
Thanks to Dendrobium for the template. I did use them and they came out perfect. When you're cutting the holes, start out short and keep trying to fit the template making adjustments as you go along. The heat of the dremel will burn the paint around the edges of the hole so if you want, you can put masking tape down first, put down the template, and then cut. If you want pics of it installed, Pm me.
It is a little scary doing this mod, but if you use the templates evrything will be fine. Good luck to all who do this!

We should put a few dents on your wagon first, it will be less painful doin' the cutting.

I'll get those pics to you tomorrow. This mod is real easy guys. You just have to build up enough courage to hack into your beautiful car. Obviously, when you get one side done the other will be a breeze. Good luck!

http://www.japanparts.com/Pic/pic078/015-002.htm

Or did you have to contact them directly? Just trying to figure out which ones match the stock orange ones that we have (yellow or gold?) or go with a full set that matches. Any idea which ones looked smoked (silver or urban white)? Thanks!

I started installing my marker kit today. I dremeled out the new front corners so i could put a bulb in there and got those in. As for the fender markers i used the template from http://archlab.gmu.edu/~rchong/STI/sidemarkers/
even though it was from an 04 sti I was to give it a try and it seems to work very well. The instructions are very clear and helpful. I have not finished jus wired and marked everything and drilled a 3/8" size hole where each marker will be cuz im using my gf's dads nibbler this weekend. Ill post pics of the finished product when Im done. Brian

Also the connector for the sidemarker next to the headlight is the same for the fender marker so maybe you can pick that up from a junkyard or dealership

Just completed the mod. to my wagon. It was very easy just take your time and double check the measurements. For the templete, seems slighly long on the horizontal plane (tabs), so I re-measured the housing using a dial caliper and sketched on AutoCAD. Did use the location reference for centering the hole. Then printed the "dwg" on label sheet for the stick on template. Worked bueno!
For the connector, just solder connectors (14 ga wire), pot out the cavity with good RTV sealant. Then splice to the front signal.
Cheers

Same here... I agree - be very careful as to the width of the hole you cut in the fender. Measure twice, cut once definitely applies in this case. Make sure that it will lock down when you pop the light in there. I sealed the metal with touch up paint, hopefully that will work well. I simply spliced into the turn signal wires so that I have extra safety when changing lanes on the freeway (gotta love LA traffic).
Good luck to all of you thinking about doing this!

Just installed the markers on my wagon. Like mentioned above, the "tab" area's are too long. Leave about 1mm on each side when cutting. Then you can test fit, and cut a little more if necessary. If you cut out the template exactly, the marker will just fall out.

Thank you for pointing it out -- I was the one who originally made the templates for the wagon -- I certainly don't want anyone ruining their fenders -- so please heed the advice of "measure twice, cut once."
The difference of 1mm can probably be attributed to whether one decides to cut to the "inside" edge or "outside" edge of the linetraced shape (does that make sense?).
Please always err on the side of the "smaller" linetraced shape when cutting, and then slowly/carefully increase the size of the opening as you testfit your sidemarker in. Make sure that the snaps on either side of the sidemarker have adequate sheetmetal to "snap" into.
good luck,
-- Dendrobium

Here's the link to the a template for '04+ sedans. Well, definitely the STi, b/c that's what it was used to do. I would assume the non-STi sedan would be the same, though. Anyway...here you go...

in my opinion the best way to insure proper fit of your sidemarkers make copys of the templates provided on this site cut the template holes out with an axacto retrace the hole onto some more stable paper cardboard ext and make the proper ajustments and you can test fit the side repeater in the smaller hole to insure a tight fit ;)

Just bumping this old thread to the top... I've got some recent requests for the wagon templates. Unfortunately my old hosting account is no longer active, and the DVD that I had the images backed up on is aged and unreadable (ie. CRC errors) :furious:
So.. does anyone still have a copy of the wagon templates lying around on their hard drive? If so, could you host them somewhere, or pm me and you can email them to me so that I can rehost them for everyone.
thanks!
