Gauging Interest on Prodrive RB-5 Rear Wing for GD Chassis

We just got these this morning directly from Prodrive U.S. This is the New RB5 Wing that is made specifically for the GD Imprezza's. Here are some pictures.

These are made out of ABS, just like the OEM spoiler. It uses the same holes to mount as the factory WRX Spoiler, it also includes the third brake light molded into the spoiler.
Not only is this spoiler differnt looking, but it's main purpose is functionality. The car is sitting in MIRA's Testing Facility in the U.K. All the prodrive spoilers are wind tunnel tested to check functionality of them. This is the same room where the Prodrive WRC car is tested and aero parts are developed. Not only does this wind tunnel recreate different temprature and wind conditions, but it also features a fully functioning all wheel drive chassis dyno. But that's not all, the dyno will also rotate about 30 degrees. This is where they developed the newest prodrive WRX wing, so they can have replicate a head wind of 70mph, and have the cars wheels spinning at 80mph, and have it so it will replicate conditions of the WRC racing.
Here is the skinny on the tunnel, pretty cool. http://www.mira.co.uk/site/what_testing_facilities7.asp
Thus said you can see that prodrive goes into not only producing high quality products, but they actually test them before sendint them out. This spoiler is very functional, and is supposed to help with decreasing understeer of the veichle.
Let us know what you think, they are almost done and ready for release to the public. As far as pricing goes, not quite sure. We will keep you posted.

Hmmm...I'm sure it works really well, but the looks of it will take getting use to. I think I'll keep my stocker for a little while longer. Kudos for making a spoiler that looks different.

I'm sure it's functional, but I think it would look better without the extra pair of vertical slats inside...
| Richmond WRX | 09-01-2005 11:29 PM |
yeah it would look better without the slats on the inside.

I like it. How does it effect visability? Can see a shot of it through the back window?
| kunfuzion | 09-02-2005 12:27 PM |
looks good. might be better if top deck was wrapped in c/f.

Different is good, I like it. To bad it's not STI trunk compatible.

Same here. I am sure they serve their purpose but people like me buy these things for looks anyway. :p

Hotness +1. If I owned a GD, I'd be all over it.

wow. i like it. keep me updated via PM when these become available with pricing!

Is this a Prodrive UK or a Prodrive USA piece? just wondering
| psg | 09-03-2005 05:57 PM |
There is no Prodrive USA any longer, as far as I know, just a Prodrive UK office in California.
| KAX | 09-03-2005 10:41 PM |
once i get a price, il tell you what i think. I realize its functional and fully tested, but like some others said, most of us are going for looks and the price, im sure, is not worth it for only that. I like it, but would probably like it more if it was more like the STi wing with the lower spoiler too.

 Not for me , they could have made it fit more to the edge of trunk , don't like the second set of upright's ,
| akinasdevil | 11-08-2005 05:48 PM |
Would look better if the spoiler looker like it was molded as one piece. Wish the "slats" didn't look like separate pieces.
| Richmond WRX | 12-21-2005 02:41 AM |
any new news on this spoiler?
| WRXSIG | 12-21-2005 02:44 AM |
its quite different, i would be in on it...but im sure id be made fun out of college within the 1st week it goes on...no thanks
| twentynine | 12-21-2005 02:48 AM |
Hmm I like it. I'd probably only get it if I had a full JDM lip kit though. It looks a little out of place with the stock curvy and chubby body lines of the GD. I'd like to see it with the upper deck in carbon fiber too.
| RallySport Direct | 12-21-2005 02:05 PM |
None yet. We are still waiting on prodrive for more info!
Thanks

After speaking with Simon at Prodrive, I dont think this wing will ever make it out, unfortunatly.

Yea, I have the Prodrive RB-5 that was released in late 04 early 05 on my 2002 WRX. I like it alot.

The RB-5 cannot be purchased anymore. I think they only made like 5 or 10 of them. I paid $400 shippied if I remember correctly.

Wow! I love that look. I think it complements the body styling of the 04-05's. Keep the vertical slats cause it looks raw!! I would definitly sport one of those.

Here is a couple of pics of the first RB-5 that was released in late 2004 / early 2005.

I just spoke with prodrive today about this issue, yes, they are being produced currently, and are available in the U.K. market already, we are just waiting for our shipment to land on the u.s. shores, honestly, i would say a good month more before we will see some, but they are definately a green light. We will keep you more informed of when we get some more response and information from prodrive.

hmm I'm predicting a $600+ price unpainted. I'd like the middle section. Kind of like the S204's wing inside of the old RB5. Speaking of S204, wonder if anybody has a replica wing of that one coming out?..

im interested in this wing as well, ive got a 22b replica wing (fiberglass). the 3rd light is cheap, and ive never really been able to get a good seal onto the trunk because the lower section traps water on the trunklid and it seeps into my trunk. this wing would solve that issue furthermore its really funky. keep us posted when yoyu have pricing/info. could you also paint for an additional charge as well?
| Richmond WRX | 03-10-2006 02:02 AM |
Prodrive either needs to get this wing out or someone needs to sell me an rb5 wing.

I am going to bet one of two things will happen. Either the wing never goes into production or they produce very few of them like the old rb5 wing. I realy hope I am wrong about this though.
| RallySport Direct | 05-12-2006 12:48 PM |
Richmond - You could be right, it is a great looking wing, there just may not be engough intrest. I dunno though, we can only guess.

That is correct, we have not heard anything from Prodrive regarding this wing despite my many requests to them.
I will let everyone know as soon as I hear anything.
