Going to install my HID kit part 2

dead-eye 12-12-2001 11:54 PM

zaidallas,
Sorry for not responding promptly; I don't subscribe to this thread so I don't check it often. The Eaglite kit in my car is pretty cool. On warm-up it casts a bluish-purple light which turns bluish white after about 15 seconds. It's very bright. The only complaint I have is that the beam pattern seems to be concentrated in a slightly rectangular pattern not like what they show in the ads (a bright, evenly dispersed cone pattern). In addition, the lip on the RH light is more pronounced. I'm not sure of the proper term but when I say lip I mean the wedge shaped pattern on the RH side of the RH light. I read on some web site that this pattern is for safety reasons so the driver can see the right side of the road better. I guess this is what they mean when they say that a LHD car has a different beam pattern than a RHD car. I'm thinking about getting the kit from vividracing; I'm just waiting on some more info.

Re: WRX nonHId Projection headlight

Ok, this is my dilema. i have nonHID projection headlights and want to install EAGLITE HIDs into it. since these projection headlights have 2 bulb (dual) filament. i have a bulb for hi and low so since i got H1 kit for the lows. Will it work properly witout the relay kit? Will i have the foglight problems and such? i have my DRLs disabled and that is my main problem that i wish to avoid. i really want to keep the DRL disabled. Please let me know.

Are you saying that you have two separate bulbs, one for high beam and one for low beam? If so then you don't have to worry about a relay kit, just plug the ballast into the lowbeam power line and your done, your DRL won't come back and you will still have your brights.

My HID is on the way and I'm trying to find a way to make it works. Well, at least I won't black out when I accidently hit the high beam. Also, won't have dimming effect on the fog light indicator or high beam out issue.

I'm planning on using 2 relay to solve the issue. I'm no electronic expert. So, let me know if this is a really dumb thing to do. Any suggestion on how to make it work/better is welcome.
This seems like it could work but there still will not be any load (resistance) that the ecu can sense for the highbeams so your brights will not just shut off when you turn them on but you might still have the dimly lit indicator. A 20A fuse will work.

Lemme know how it works out.

Can anyone tell me how to install the HID with relay from autolite? i kinda wondered on my own to install it, but it's not working properly.. Also, on the right hand side headlight, there is wire that needs to be connected to the battery (+) according to the diagram. Do i have to go across the engine bay and radiator in order to connect it to the battery? or is there some other way?

Please someone help me...... Avey? or Silverwrx02.. anyone?

Yes you have to go accross th engine bay with the power wire from the right headlight. The way it comes out of the box you will have to flip the diodes coming from the lowbeam wires (the middle wire from the harness) and it will work, but you have to be care full that you don't turn on you highbeams, or it will burn out the fuse in the main fuse panel, so what I did was put in 30A fuses in the main panel, then the fuses won't burn, but the diodes on the highbeam side get hot, you wil have make sure that you don't turn on you brights but if you do you have a few seconds to put it back before any thing can go wrong, BTW the way you have to hook it up when you turn on you brights they won't come on anyway. Atleast this way everything functions normally untill you turn on you brights.

I am going to look into making a kit from scratch that works perfectly with this car, I think it will involve a completely different system where diodes won't be used. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for your help!!
please keep me posted on your new development.

i installed my hid with relay and it works on both side now thanks to Avey. however, i see dimly lit high beam indicator and my fogs don't work. i have no idea what i did wrong... i thought i installed it correctly. anyone else having similar problem? any help please?

Make sure you are blocking flow with the diodes on the highbeam side, it sounds like you are letting both diodes flow.
BlueWRX 12-28-2001 03:28 PM

okay, there are 3 diodes coming our of relay kit, right? i connected all three in places so that it would turn on. But what do you mean by blocking flow with diodes on the high beam side? can you please explain to me? Does that mean, i don't connect it to the high beam side?

Stupid question, maybe

Since the HID kit will work by either using the high beam connector or the low, couldn't you just connect both wires to the bulb (without the diode or relay)? Since current would only flow through one wire at a time it shouldn't be a problem right? My question on this is whether the ballast will be able to compensate for the surge of power when you flip on high beam? The ballast seems to be able to handle the high beam wattage, but would that surge cause problems? Maybe stupid (its late) but its an idea. Maybe someone could enlighten me on this.

Thanks,

TMK

I'm no expert but you don't want the current flow back to hi when you have low on. This may cause short circuit.

HID kit is a sham

That's what the author of this article thinks and tries to prove

Any way to disable DRLs with Eaglite HIDs?

Has anyone figured out a way to disable the DRLs with the Eaglite HID kit?

I've tried the ballast in the engine bay by the heat shield for the turbo, which worked with the stock lights, and the green and blue relays under the glove compartment near the passenger door, which I've also heard works with the stock lights.

Neither works. Is there any way I can do it?

What about with the relay everybody keeps talking about? Right now, the hi-beams are exactly the same as the regular beams, except the light in the dashboard comes on. And the fog lights will come on with the regular beams, but they light uo the high beam indicator normally and the fog light indicator dimly. WHat will the relay change about that. I can't get any high beams with this kit, right?

Thanks.

I like the eaglite but it is very annoying to have them on with my lights off. Any up-date on this yet? WHat kind of diode and relay do i need?
Avey 04-13-2002 08:25 AM

If your DRLs are on, and you have disconnected the module, you have grounded to the body. If you want the DRLs to be off ground right to the harness of the car. No need for a relay kit, if all you want to accomplish is disabling your DRLs.

Good luck.

I installed the ground to the wire harness and it still goes on when i start the car. I have disabled the DRL.

Check that the ballast module is NOT grounded. If it is grounded, the HID lights will be on all the time.
