hi,
getting ready to get some hood dampers.
the only ones ive seen are the Tein and the godspeed ones.
im sure the tein is a good product, has anyone used the godspeed?
take a look:
the tein are $120, ebay Item number: 120043370178
the godspeed are $60 ebay item #: 120043743873
any input?

Those Redline above look good and half the price of everything else I've seen. I bought some from rallitek.com, I don't remember the brand, maybe Cusco. They are chrome and look really nice, I'm not a fan of the green teins. Also, they make working under the hood WAY more easy, not trying to work around the f'n prop stick is well worth the money.
| subarulz! | 10-21-2006 03:36 AM |
Sorry to jack but anyone have these and ever thought they got in the way of working on the car? I often hold the hood up with a broom stick in the middle when I do things like change spark plugs or when I did the down pipe. I think these are pretty cool but am worried I'll regret it when time comes to do some work on the engine again.
| seattle944t | 10-21-2006 04:05 AM |
The NRG ones don't require any drilling since they use the existing bolt holes on the fender and the hood. I don't know about the Tein and the godspeed ones, but the redline ones require you to drill and pop-rivet the mounting points.
| fastwrx25 | 10-21-2006 07:19 AM |
I would get the redline ones. ~40 bucks
| DaNewSube | 10-21-2006 10:33 AM |
props to the teins, installs under 10 min, uses oem bolts on the hood mount.
looks great, works great when you're cleaning the engine bay. No more headaches from the hood falling on you.=)

ya a big plus for me was not drilling holes.. i think the godspeed ones mount same as the teins. so ill go that way for sure. im just not sure if i want green.

The ones I got are chrome, they use the stock holes and are either Cusco or AVO. Double check Rallitek.com for the brand. They are holding an open house this weekend and might have some discounts going on. I'd be pressed to try the Godspeed too, just because they cost half the price. Wish I investigated more before buying, although the chrome finish looks super sweet together with the Cusco upper strut tie bar.

The drilling part for the Redlines are much easier than a lot of people think. I got mine a couple years back from Bryan at JnJAssociates and they are holding up really well.

If you dont like the green like me, I painted mine the same color as my strut bar ends. Not hard to do. Just scuff them up with some steel wool and spray them. Took me less than a day to do.

The nice part about the TEINs is you can pull the ball lock pins in like 1 sec and disconnect the damper if you need the hood farther out of the way or if the damper rod is in the way of you working on the car.

looks like a clean mod. How hard is install?
| antny | 10-23-2006 01:49 AM |
Very easy with the teins. I got mine for cheap on the group buy from one of the vendors. I want to say jsc speed but dont qoute me on that. I just did my clutch this weekend and it made the install a little easier without the hood prop in the way. Very good investment

there's a guy on the www.saab92x.com forums that does alot of custom machining and he's planning on designing a set of dampers himself for much cheaper then what's out there. check out:

I think ive read thru this entire post and didnt see mention of WORX Tuning hood struts. I believe they are abotu 130 retail, but im sure if you call them direct you should be able to get a better price. Probably nowhere near as easy on the pocketbook as the godspeed ones, and i dont know what quality difference is between them all, but if I had to guess, WORX would only be selling products as good of quality as they would put on their own cars.

So for all the ones that don't require drilling that use the stock mounting holes.. why does every vendor say that they should not be used with Carbon Fiber hoods???
I have a Siebon CF hood and would like to go the hood strut route, but every site says not to use them...
Anyone???

well from what i can tell , the dampers are to strong for a cf hood. i have a stock hood on my 06, and you can tell that when closing it the hood is strained. so a cf hood is not as strong at the mounting points. so when you go to close it the dampers break the hood at the mounting points.
thats what i hink.

Ive been silent about a few threads posted here mainly because i want to make sure that the parts came in on time and made to specs and i can deliver what i promised. There were 60+ sets preordered and they will all be shipped next week.
Im not a vendor here so posting a link to the product is not allowed but if you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask me. I can tell you from every bolt and nut and dimensions of the IxizHood as i spec and design every component. This is not my regular job, I am merely having fun and funding my hobby. I have other products and will be adding more when time allows.
I have the final product assembled last evening I will be the first one to tell you if it does not function. But I can also tell you that it has functions that some others would not have. 4 prototypes were designed before the final version. And Im still using version 3 on my own car
Thanks for all those that supported this project from beginning and look forward to more projects in future and Happy Thanksgiving (holidays)

I have the Redlines and I drop the hood to close it like normal.
I'm sure all the struts are the same in that there is very little to no lifting assist in the first foot or so.

i personally am still leaning towards prova golds because of the coating so there is no rust but the price keeps me looking for another alternative
Anyone use the NRG? Found a cheap price...almost too cheap. Good deal/price?

Just to warn everyone, I jumped all over this deal about a month ago and am still waiting for shipment. The part is backordered (which they don't tell you on the website), and the estimated ship date was March 27. I emailed them for an updated ship date but have not heard back yet. If they don't ship within the next week I'm gonna ask for my money back, since they charged my credit card on the purchase date, not the ship date.
Damn, I was just going to post about the IxizHood...I got his IxizShift short throw shifter and am very pleased with it. I wouldn't expect any less than excellence in the IxizHood. Check it out.
Due to concerns from potential users and by request. As an option all hardware with the Ixizhoods can be changed out with FULL Stainless Steel Hardware. The current setup has been tested with salt water spray and it pass the test. So in case for those who still prefers stainless hardware its available as an option.
Please dont hesitatet to contact me for any hood dampers question. (Even its not my product). And Feel free to test my knowledge and compare them with any other ones in the market.
