New Zealand is a true highlight of the season. The landscape is beautiful and the action on the fast, flowing gravel stages tends to be open and unpredictable. The challenging terrain really rewards the drivers with the very best car control. If you can win here, titles will follow. Given the long-haul nature of this event for European fans, it's also a good opportunity to put together a double-header with the preceding round in Australia, allowing you to take in the best of both countries.
This year's event moves from its traditional Auckland base to the Waikato region and will be based at Mystery Creek Events Centre in the city of Hamilton. This is adrenaline territory. If it drops, jumps, slides, bounces or goes just plain quickly, then this is the best place in the world to try it out. The locals are exceptionally welcoming and love rallying, and the new city has a diverse culture in which to spend the week in the run-up to the rally. In fact, it's worth making this a two-week trip to really benefit from everything that the area has to offer.
This year the event returns to a southern-hemisphere summer slot. When it's sunny, the stages can be glorious, but, when it rains, they can turn as slippery as any on the schedule. Blind crests, fast jumps, flat-out kinks and huge cambers make the roads more challenging than most, but the drivers love them. You need to be brave to do well, but the slightest mistake is punished severely as a result.

Prediction: Podiums for Gronholm, Hirvonen, and Solberg (not necessarily in that order)
For Britian: Hirvonen, Stohl, and Solberg (Gronholm will crash) with special guest star Loeb in the new C4 (they've no chance for a mfr. win with the Xsara anymore)

Of course, the question is "Which Solberg?" Henning has improved a lot over the season, when he keeps it on the road, that is.

Should have qualified; Petter in both cases. Stohl is still a bit better in these events. I've heard Henning may end up with Kronos next year since Loeb and Sordo will officially be with Citroen. It makes me wonder will be the second driver at OMV.

Ctiroen is back as a full manufacturer next year. Kronos (running Citroens but not Citroen; this year's a little flukey that way) has yet to announce anything, but the odds seem to be on Pons and H Solberg.

Loeb is doing the recce for rally NZ. there has been a hint, that he won't be doing Rally GB aswell. there is no point risking another injury, if the championship is in the pocket :)

But I think that Petter had better get er DONE. It would be great to see him drive well, not break anything, and grab another podium.

Congrats to Ford for their first Manu title since 1979.
Jari-Matti Latvala, second win in a row!
PWRC was quite a roller-coaster (it's where all the action is at these days), but Nassar Al-Attiyah took the title in the end. Congratulations to him and Chris Patterson, they've done a great job all year.

Subaru should really get rid of that aussie slow mo and mr Hollywood.
Rossi in a tarmac specced built car on his friggin first rally was driving in the same rank as the two factory drivers A BIG SHAME .They should run their scouts on some national rallyes in europe what crazy fast drivers drive here its hard to belive. If somone would only gave them a chance.
And this car this year its a flop it looks like a friggin Seat and it goes like one to. the 2005 evolution was faster on all gorunds (tarmac or gravel). And not to put blame on the mechanics . You cant set up built a car if some idiots keeps on crashing it. And on top of it those pirellies would be better to drive on the rims. We had them on our rally car the ****ers had cracks on them after one single SS.
Subaru should get the michelins and some good drivers.

Ford ended Propecia Rally New Zealand as they started, with complete dominance leading the way to their first FIA Manufacturers World Championship since 1979.
27 years ago it was Bjorn Waldegard flying the flag in an Escort with victory in New Zealand to go with the Manufacturers title. This year it was the irresistible Marcus Gronholm in a class of his own.
Gronholm led Ford to a magnificent double with young Mikko Hirvonen playing a great supporting role when putting the team ahead of his own ambition on the final day. Not that he would surely have challenged the unflappable Finn who collected an amazing 12 fastest times across the 17 Special Stages.
Gronholm's margin at the end of a weather affected but nonetheless impressive event was a dominating 56 seconds back to his team mate. Manfred Stohl drove impressively on the final day to pick up third, a further 1:43.3 back from Hirvonen.

That's absolutely great that Ford wrapped up the title.
New car, New team, and they were fast out of the box.

It's taking FOREVER to get the Euro sport coverage up on those two sites which you can usually download them from. I'm not talking about torrents either.
Whats up with that? Has Eurosport not aired the event yet?
Subaru should really get rid of that aussie slow mo and mr Hollywood.
Despite a poor performance this year, Solberg knows it's better to be signed to any team rather than be on the outs like a lot of drivers are this and next year.
Subaru 'sells' the seat in thier second car to the highest bidder, who currently is Subaru Australia. That explains why Atkinson is driving, for good or ill. Ford does the same thing, though I can't remember who Hirvonen's sponsor is, as does Stobart. I think teams like OMV run straight on money from sponsors, though I dont know if they directly support Stohl or not. Henning I think is having a lot of his drive paid for by a Norwiegon ice cream company.

OMV _is_ the sponsor. Bozian is the team. Expert (Henning's sponsor) is the Swedish/Norwegian Circuit City, a retail electronics store.

Impressive season for Stohl/Minor. . . They have continued to improved their style as the season has worn on. Nice to see! I root for them in place of Petter when I can.

Congrats to Ford on a fantastic season. They were on the ball straight out of the gate, and if it weren't for the inevitable teething issues earlier in the season that are bound to come with every newly-designed rally car, the driver's championship would've gone down to the wire (Loeb's broken arm aside). Their manufacturer's title is well-deserved, and they're going to be the team to watch next season. Here's hoping the C4 goes through some of the issues the Focus did (and more!). :)

Seeing the pictures made me want to go to the homeland for a while!

If it wasn't so damn far from, well, everywhere, I'd move there.
