low profile floorjack part 2

TimStevens 09-21-2004 11:51 AM

Yep, I just bought it about two weeks ago and you're in luck, used it for the first time last weekend :) Nice jack, damn heavy, but it feels very solid and has a high lift, which I need since my jack stands are really tall. Also has an integrated rubber pad in the cradle, which is a nice feature.

Other than it making some squeaking noises when I lift my car sometimes I have no complaints. But, like I said, I've only used it a few times now...

Thanks for the feedback Tim. The weight is kind of a downer since there are other racing jacks out there in the 30# range. This will work fine as it will be my garage jack and getting credit for my old one and just spending $50 or so makes it even more appealing. I just saw that it had a cushion on the handle to protect the car from getting dings while you're jacking it up. Pretty cool :)

BTW - did they have this in-stock at your local Sears or did you have to order it online?
TimStevens 09-21-2004 11:59 AM

They had only the display model in stock, which they wouldn't give me, so I had to order one.

And the pad on the handle is definitely a nice feature. I honestly couldn't figure out what it was for until I was jacking up my WRX and it kept hitting the bumper. Then the light popped on :)
Hank3 09-21-2004 12:02 PM

So the store ordered one for you and you picked it up there? I want to avoid the costs of ordering it online and having them ship it to my home - it's pretty hefty in price :)

 - that's great!!!

Yep, I went in the store and they ordered one for me and had it shipped there. No extra charge. You can also order things online and have them delivered to the store and again pay no shipping. That's the way to go if you can, saves a trip to Sears. But, you may not be able to get any discounts.
Hank3 09-21-2004 12:15 PM

Thanks Tim - I'm on my way to Sears now. I have to go in and get the swap approved by the manager first :)
TimStevens 09-21-2004 12:17 PM

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, have'm order it for ya. Took about 5 days to get it in here. Just paid cost of the jack and tax.

Good luck :)
Hank3 09-21-2004 01:22 PM

Just an update: they'll do th swap for me. I'll get $70 back for my current one and $120 - 10% (Crafstman Club member discount) and then I pay the difference

Plus they have three in-stock. The dude said if they have an item below five in-stock, then don't advertise on the on-line sore for available pick-up because someone may go in and buy it and then the stock be depleted...
TimStevens 09-21-2004 01:28 PM

Cool!

I have the 2 ton version of the one

More holding capacity, plus it is MUCH lighter.

Only downside is its almost $100 more.......
TimStevens 09-21-2004 03:00 PM

I thought about this one, but I don't see this jack ever leaving my garage, so the weight isn't such a big deal. And, the WRX is my heaviest car by a long shot, so no need for the extra tonnage yet.

But when my H2 is delivered...

Your right, I do take it with me sometimes, so its worth it to me! :)

Why does it have to be low profile? My car is low and my Craftman fits fine. I had a problem with a different car I used to own and it was too low... that's when you drive up onto 2 boards to get the clearance.

$60 for jack and stands... AND 2 pieces of wood.

The only problem i've found with this is that the saddle is so small, it really mangles the lip on the side rail and now its rusting. :( Its also too small to reliably use in the front or rear. Few a few more bucks, you have a more versatile, stable and safer jack from HF with the $80 aluminum model. It comes with a build it saddle pad and is wider to distribute the load better.
TimStevens 09-21-2004 06:49 PM

A hockey puck will get rid of the problems with the small and pad-less saddle, but for the extra $19, I'd take the Craftsman 1.5 ton floor jack than the HF one. And I did :)
Sorry to revive this thread but my Craftsman SUV jack just developed a leak and I'm gonna return it to get a better jack. Does anyone happen to have this one?

I can a credit for the broken one and then dish out another $50 or so to get the one above. I totally forgot about the Craftsman Club card I have so maybe they'll let me use that too :)
thats the jack that i ended up buying. im happy with it and the pad is nice, but it is still kinda heavy. my nearby sears store had a promotion when i got it, $120 for the jack and a creeper. it would be nice to have a little lighter weight jack but i read a reviews about the harbor freight jack having issues with the saddles breaking.

I dno't know if its the pucks i've tried to use, but they always split apart on me on the rails. They're just simple pucks from a sporting goods store. The proper jack pads i have don't seem to have that problem though.
DJ_STI 09-21-2004 11:01 PM

I returned 2 different craftsman jack till i find i really nice one that barely fits under my wrx with tein-s tech springs. (and by barely i mean by maybe 5mm).

it's an SUV jack so its handy if you have to work on the big car to, but it works nicely for the wrx.

ohh yea and it only has a one year warranty :furious:

Really? That's weird, I've been using the same puck for a few years now and it doesn't even show any signs of cracking  Good to know, though, I'll keep an eye on it now. But, with the new jack I only use it when I'm jacking up under my skidplate or diff protector.
