Sno*Drift Pro Rally
Atlanta, Michigan
January 24-27, 2002

NEWS:

The organizers are very much looking forward to hosting the first round of the 2002 SCCA ProRally Championship Series.

We've expanded the format of this year's event to a two-day, ice and snow covered, 110-stage-mile ProRally. Concurrently, we'll run Sno, a 30 mile coefficient II ClubRally, on Friday and Drift, a 70 mile coefficient III, ClubRally on Saturday.

We've added a new stage or two and brought back some of our favorites.

The event will be headquartered in Atlanta, Michigan and all stages will be in Montmorency County.

This website will be updated frequently. Please check back for detailed schedules, entry lists and spectator information.

Please look around the site and let us know what you think. If you need more information, please feel free to send a note to [email protected] anytime.

wow...i might just have to try and make it to this one.

jeremy
mykrrrr 12-10-2001 11:35 AM

I'd be super down for a Subaru meet up there. :D

The parking lot next door to the rally HQ is big enough for a meet (I think.)

Jeremy - It's a great time. I've worked the stages for the last two years. I'm gonna head up there and go snowboarding as well for a day or two either before or after the rally.

The only bad thing about getting alot of rally nuts up there on those roads is that they think they're all Colin McRae and go blasting down the roads like they're in full bore rally cars. :( I saw a nice Audi with some battle scars on it (probably from an "off") last year.

The other bad thing is that the hotels right around Atlanta fill up quick. The "major" city close by is Gaylord which is about 30 min. East.

I also heard that Prodrive/SRT USA booked up all the open rooms @ the Win-Sands (Rally HQ) hotel.

I'm gonna call around for hotels in the next week or so.

-myk
Marquis 12-11-2001 06:53 AM

I'm pretty sure I'll be there, so let's make sure we get a chance to meet up.
peepshow 12-11-2001 07:48 AM

I'm gonna go. When and where are we gonna meet?

- Trent
Marquis 12-11-2001 11:01 AM

That's a good question. I've never been up there, so I'm not even sure what to suggest. Maybe the guys that have will chime in.

As an aside, do you want to caravan up there since we're so close?
Achilles38WRX 12-11-2001 11:40 AM

this sounds cool, where the heck is atlanta michigan anyway?

mark
mykrrrr 12-11-2001 11:44 AM

We can all meet @ the Win-Sands hotel (Rally HQ)/BP station on Friday. Parc Expose is tentatively scheduled for 2:30 pm on Friday. FCO (First Car Out) is @ 3:01 pm

Does anyone want to share the $$$ on a room in Gaylord??? There's really nothing left in Atlanta and driving past the rally to Hillman seems like a waste. Gaylord is about a 40 min. trip.

Anyone else want to work as a marshall??? I got to work the start of stage 1 last year and it was really fun. I learned a lot and got to joke around with the drivers before they started. Anti-lag sounds so damn beautiful from 2 ft. away. :D

Let's really get this sorted so it'll be a good I-Club showing.

-myk
peepshow 12-11-2001 12:39 PM

Sure, Marquis, caravan sounds like a good idea. mykrrrr, I would be willing to share room $$$ with ya. Probably others would, too. I remember stuffing something like 6 guys in a room for the car show up at St. Ignace. Gaylord sounds like the best bet. Marquis, you wanna share the room, too?

- Trent
Marquis 12-11-2001 12:50 PM

That sounds like a good idea to me, but I think I have at least one more person coming with me. If you guys don't mind that many people, count me in.
dwx 12-11-2001 01:15 PM

I see they have quite a few places listed on the sno-drift web page, although I don't know how current it is as to the vacancy status. I'll probably head up there with a friend of mine. He's a ham guy and usually works, I might work this year as well. What hotel were you guys looking at staying at in Gaylord?
peepshow 12-11-2001 01:28 PM

mykrrrr & Marquis. I forgot to mention that I won't be going up until Friday night, I have to work on Thursday and Friday. Hope that is O.K.

- Trent
mykrrrr 12-11-2001 02:28 PM

Caravan sounds good. Room sharing sounds good.

I really don't care where we stay in Gaylord. It's all central to the highway to Atlanta.
Cheap is good, the more the marrier I say since it'll drive costs down down down. :D

dwx - If people want to work we should request that we work together.

Mark - Atlanta is about 45 min. (~30 miles East) of Gaylord MI in the Lower Peninsula.

-myk
Marquis 12-11-2001 02:43 PM

dsmawd - I'm sure the room will work out no matter what time you plan on being there on Friday. I guess the caravan probably won't work out, though. I had intended to go down there either Thursday night or Friday morning, depending on what others had planned.

Just a bit of advice for those sharing the room: bring a towel. I remember being the sixth person using the same thin hotel towel down at Virginia Beach one year, and that wasn't cool...
mykrrrr 12-11-2001 02:53 PM

Marquis - I'm coming from Chicago and usually go up 131 but I can come up past Lansing if ya like. I'm planning on leaving early Friday morning from Chicago (2/3 am) so we'll figure out the logistics later.

Should this be moved to the Motorsports or Mid-West forum???

-myk
JC 12-11-2001 07:28 PM

I'll try and make it.

JC
Mike Anson 12-11-2001 07:29 PM

Who's going to Sno*Drift?

Hopefully this isn't already a thread...

I'm not sure if I can go, but I'm hoping to make it. Anyone else going to brave the cold?
Axiochus 12-11-2001 11:12 PM

I'm planning on it, but it's not so solid that I'm ready to reserve the room... yet.

You may also want to PM Mr. TeamHella... he's been talking it up since LSPR.

Matt.

P.S.- How 'bout 100AW... you in, Mike?
10th Warrior 12-11-2001 11:49 PM

i will hopefully make it up this year. we shall see.

you all should come to 100aw. trust me, the roads are badass  just getting to the spectator areas will be fun. of course, we always could use volunters ;)
Mike Anson 12-11-2001 11:59 PM

If I had my druthers, I'd go to both. Do you think it'll be worth it?

I'll see what the wife says.
Axiochus 12-12-2001 12:06 AM

Yeah, I think it will be worth it.

Plus, I'm thinking of volunteering, which would be really good experience.

Matt.
dwx 12-12-2001 12:39 AM

This should probably be maybe be made sticky so it doesn't get bumped off after 3 hours...
Marquis 12-12-2001 07:05 AM

mykrrr - If you could come over to Lansing, that'd be great. We could just head up 27 straight to Gaylord.

Oh, and this probably should be moved to some other forum, just to solve the 3-hour bumpage problem.
Marquis 12-12-2001 07:12 AM

Yes, there is a thread about this already but it's in the General forum. It gets bumped off the first page every 10 minutes or so... :D

Maybe a Mod could merge this thread and the other one into this forum. It would be more on-topic, and wouldn't get bumped so much.

Anyway, if you read the other thread, a handful of us are planning on going. Hopefully we'll all be able to meet up at the parking lot of the Win Sands (is that right?) hotel which is the rally HQ.

10th Warrior - what's 100aw? I've been looking for some events reasonably close to me (i.e., not on the West Coast) to go to. Plus I wouldn't mind doing some volunteer work if you need it.
peepshow 12-12-2001 10:02 AM

Well, maybe I will take Fri. off. If not, I'll just link up with you all at the hotel or somewhere.

- Trent
mykrrrr 12-12-2001 10:04 AM

I notified the moderators about the other thread and to merge them together.

-myk
Marquis 12-12-2001 10:12 AM

That's cool, just let us know. Either way works, but it would be cool if we could get a sizable caravan rolling.
iceweazel 12-12-2001 03:03 PM

A couple notes for those that have not been there before.

a) DON'T meet at the A-Win-Sands. Theres no damn room
for the rally folks let-alone a meet. Highly recommend the
restaurant down the road or the grocery a block away.

b) It can get FRICKING cold, be prepared. We've had
spectators and marshals get stuck out in the woods
before for a couple hours.

c) watch where you spectate. There was a minor
incident involving a speeding rally car and 3 spectators
last year at an icy corner. Remember your physics!

Don't want to see you guys coming over the hood, eh?

d) etc, etc. Enjoy yourselves but watch out for Johnny Law.
He gave out about 10 tickets to spectators last year.

Ed
mykrrrr 12-12-2001 09:39 PM

A) I'd think the IGA lot to the West of the Win-Sands would be big enough to have a mini meet but it has been a year since I was last up there so I could be wrong. I don't think it's gonna be as big as the 35 car Chicago/WI meet on a Thursday. I think it'll work out. I do agree that we shouldn't clog up the Win-Sands area too much since it is rally HQ but since people will be coming in @ different times it'll be a good general meeting place. We can figure out the specifics before the rally.

B) Agreed here...it can get pretty cold; bring lots o' warm clothes, layer it on and be happy. :D

C) Physics??? I only remember playing with toys in physics class... Use common sense...

D) YES...drive stupid and get busted. Deputy Fife will DEFINITELY be on the look out for outta towners. :(

Ed - Are you competing??? What car??? Need crew help???

-myk
JenisonWRX 12-13-2001 08:38 AM

I will be there...

also a friend of mine who is a huge autox'er and becoming a subie fan Mark. He drives a black Contour SVT

should be fun ;)

100aw = 100 Acre Woods ClubRally. it used to be run back in the 70s-80s as a ProRally, and this coming feb. 23 (its a saturday) it gets revived as a ClubRally. supposedly, its going to be the new clubrally championship event. its in central MO, HQ'ed in Salem and run in the Mark Twain state forest. the roads are truly awesome. the first half will be run in the afternoon and then the second half will be run at night. it should be really good and the weather will no doubt be interesting :D even the spectator routes will be fun ;) there also might be a rally-x in the morning, but we're still trying to find a place to hold it.
DCRallyDave 12-13-2001 04:42 PM

That sucks

Poor planning by SCCA organizers again. 100 Acre Wood is on the same weekend as a Canadian National event. Why would they have made that the ClubRally championship if it conficted another rally. They had the perfect opportunity to use Sand Hills that does not conflict and is before the Pro season starts. Brilliant!

My tentative plan is as follows:

Leave early Friday morning (02:00/03:00) from Chicago to be up there by ~ 10:00/11:00 or I go to my parents' in MI on Thursday and leave @ 04:00/05:00 for Atlanta.

I need to register as crew for Dave Shindle's team (unless Dave, you can register me before hand)

We can set up the mini-meet @ the IGA next to the Win-Sands (providing that there's enough room) for 12:00 or so before the Parc Expose @ 14:30

This all may change so just keep this thread in the back of your mind. :D

I will be there either as a competitor or crewing for someone else(depends if I sell my rallycar {a 95 yellow & red Neon})

I'm planning on going. I think I will leave Cowlumbus either late Thursday, or real early Friday. I am lookin to save some money on Hotel room, so if anyone wants to share a room, just let me know.

Mike
mykrrrr 12-19-2001 09:30 AM

I too need to share a room with someone. I'm planning on going Friday morning so we'd need Friday & Sat. night (I really don't feel like staying on Sat. but I'm not gonna drive all the way back to Chicago that night)

I'm gonna start a thread on the MW Forum soon to gather the troops.

I'm in mykrrrr, I think Marquis and JenisonWRX, too. We can decide if that is too many in a room when we get there. I still haven't decided whether I am gonna take that Friday off or not. I will be up there Fri afternoon at the latest.

This is some news about David Higgins test session on Wednesday:

For one thing it was within the 7 county blackout by the organizers, just outside Montmorency county. GO FIGURE!! Two sets of rules for two levels of competitiors, heh?

"On his first pass, David went about 100 yards, slid off and hit three trees.* Messed up all the plastic on the front left side down by the fog light cover."

I am at the days inn room 309. My cell # is 262-994-0335. Pat Richard's car was up on jack stands in the parking lot when I arrived. :)
