I agree, that's a bunch of crap! There's no reason at all for that! It's just as bad as when Barrichello pulled over for Schumacher a couple of years ago in F1. Absolute BS!
I wonder if the FIA would fine Ford for it like Ferrari got fined for their incident? But I guess that would be like the pot calling the kettle black after all the decisions that the FIA has made recently.

CoDrivers are pissed.
Works co-drivers reacted with a mixture of anger and resignation to a new ruling that means their names no longer appear next to their drivers on the side of the cars.
The new approach was introduced for the Monte Carlo Rally and rigorously enforced. Subaru was ordered to remove Phil Millss name from Petter Solbergs works Impreza.
Were a team. Were both in the car, winning navigator Daniel Elena said. Sebastien is French, but Im not. Im from Monaco. Id like to see the Monagasque flag on the car. Its a pity.
Im just lost for words. As if we havent got enough in the sport to worry about, Mills commented.
The decision was put forward by the World Rally Championship Commission, seemingly to avoid confusing the public. Co-drivers names may still legally appear on cars front wings. FIA President Max Mosley said he would look into the matter.

A few reactions: I think Petter got a little carried away with himself and forgot about what was a very sensible strategy, but that same spirit made him Champion last year so you can't fault him. In fact I almost couldn't believe my ears when I heard him saying that this was strickly a points run.
Those new Pugs are clearly fast and we will have a great battle this year. Just based on what I saw in the Monte, Gronholm looks set to bounce back from last year's frustrations and make another title run.
Impressive stuff by Loeb, I knew hed do it. I'm thrilled to see Mitsubishi back as well.
About the rules changes... To read this forum one would be lead to believe that the WRC was destroyed beyond recognition. Yet I didn't notice any meaningful change in the competition. So can we please move on and enjoy the season?

I think the Evo will shine on the dry tarmac events. With Gils driving, there is a great possibility of doing well.

Gils has been praised as "the tarmac specialist" but every tarmac event I've seen him at recently has resulted in a sporatic performace. Is it fair to say that he is no longer of the same caliber or is it just that the competition has raised to his level?

Actually, the FIA fined Ferrari for their antics on the podium... Schuey pulling Woobins on to the top step and handing him the first place trophy... That's what they got fined for. They were politely "told" that team orders are frowned upon, but that wasn't what they were fined for.
On the note of co-drivers, I think it's BS too. Boo to the FIA for that one. Hopefully Max will realize that it's a STUPID rule that makes no difference to him, but the co-drivers want to and deserve to be recognized!

The way I understood it Markko had already past Duval then Ford told them to 'hold their places" to both cars could score. Duval had to stop at the end NOT to let Markko pass him but to hold his own place.

I was going to get behind Team Mitsu this year, I think it looks cool and has rally car "attitude". The car has no active center DIFF and no slap shift so this is a test year of a 3 year plan. I dont see them winning even with Panizzi at the wheel.
SOOO I am behind Markko and Focus this time.

The car seemed to pull really hard, but did you notice that Marcus was banging the rev limiter on a few straights?

Yeah, Marcus was complaining about hitting the rev limiter on some of the longer stages.

True, he was in the very capable 206 before as well as a great crew behind him. The Mitsu crew is still new. It will def. take time but I think they can be back at a competitive level again.

This would be a very good year to start focusing some coverage on the privateers. With so few factory drivers in the series I could easily see at least one privateer earning points on every rally. The privateer sponsors would love the coverage and it could spur extra dollars coming in and eventually perhaps a diversification of the field. We could add two or three top flight non factory teams into the mix.
Thatd be exciting.

A Subaru privateer won a point in Monte. Olivier something...
