This weekend folks. :) Hopefully solo-x and I will be there for practice starts, but we can't leave until 9pm Thursday night because its my wife's birthday. So, we just may not be there until late Friday again... unless we pick up a passenger that can drive and we drive straight through.

Or, every light over .650?

KC, KC, KC... Redlights are ALREADY two shots. So are DNFs. Cones are 1.
I agree with Nate though - a shot for each stall and 2 for each spin sounds like a plan.
With that rule, I guess that means this last weekend I owed an extra 2 shots on Saturday, in addition to my 1 for a cone and 2 for a RL. I can't believe I stalled Chris's Exige at the line. TWICE. :( At least it was on the same run I guess. :p (Note to self: low torque vehicles do not like to start in 3rd...)
Luckily I'm pretty sure I drank those extra 2 shots anyway, without realizing I owed them!
Edit: Just saw the part about every light over .650. Hmm. I'd say only if Toledo uses the traditional tree with the printouts. Otherwise, it's too inconsistent to rely on the announcer to announce RTs.
a shifter, huh?
Welp, I just got an email from the shifter guys. They're recommending that we postpone my pledge induction into the shifter world. They feel that with the high competition level in F125 at this weekend's event, that I might find the experience less than ideal. :( So they're suggesting I delay my first hit off the crack pipe until a later event. I think I might ask about the local Toledo Express event on Labor Day weekend.
<- foresee's a really hung over croy in the future...
Been a while since I've been hung over because of alcohol. Now dehydration, that's a different story. I too-often end up "hung over" after a day with zero alcohol, just from not drinking enough water.

dehydration hang-overs suck. all the pain, none of the fun! I get an added side affect if I don't stay hydrated now that I've had PRK done on my eyes. My vision is highly affected by the amount of fluid inside my eye. If I get dehydrated, I actually start seeing halo's around lights and can't focus on stuff in the distance. Hrm.... maybe there's my excuse for the lazy r/t's.... ;)

+2 for STX. My first ProSolo attempt. We had a half-assed failed mirror solo trial last summer at one of the Detroit region events. I don't think that's quite the same.
This will definitely be a learning experience for me. I've never run off a real tree before. When do the practice starts and such take place on Friday? I'm hoping to be there by 1:30. Maybe I'll have time to get some practice. I'll also have a brand new suspension to try out...so pretty much a new car as well.
See you all there.

Hopefully the layout of the course this weekend will be better and a lot faster than the previous Pro at Toledo. I recall the 04' Pro was an excellent course even with the 120-130 degree turn-around pin.

It's not a pin turn but it is pretty tight. Courses look to be a lot of fun and hopefully we got the bugs out of the system during practice starts and the rest of the weekend will go smooth. Showered now and feeling a lot better, 92 degrees and 90% humidity with no wind just sucks. Heading out to Loma Lindas now for a couple of margarittas and some good mexican food.

Thanks Max. I'll be there for the Pro Finale (or whatever replaces Pro Solo in 2008). I'll be doing at least 3 Pro Solo tour events and 1 Nat'l Tour in 2008.
My wife and I just had a baby this year - so the little bundle of joy has put a dent in my autoX budget for this season.

I just got home, I think the Mini drive was ok, there wasn't much damage to the car from a distance from what I could see.
Had fun this weekend, nice to see everyone, thanks for the gas Phil and Jenn!
EDIT: Just found out I only witnessed the aftermath, the mini supposedly had a tire blow and it had some anti gravity issues, don't want to say more than that right now..

Wow! What a fun event. Now I understand why everyone loves the ProSolo format so much. Having to run the tree was fun. So glad I got there early enough to get some practice starts and figure out when to go. I also want to thank Ground Control for my new suspension and Jason Kolk for the alignment. My car is now one hell of a fun ride! Its amazing how much more fun Solo is with a car that turns and does what you ask it to.
It was definitely a fun weekend to run STX. With cones and red lights thrown into the mix it was hard to pick a winner. Phil was running strong on Saturday and couldn't manage a clean run today. Same goes for my co-driver. Cleaned up the left course, dirty on 4 of 6 runs on the right. I picked up .8 or .9 seconds today, but Greg managed to find time everywhere and run away from the rest of us. Congrats to Greg! STX ended with a NASIOC sweep of the first 5 spots.

I had a fun time at the event, it was my first national event... the prosolo is different... I enjoyed it but there was a definite learning curve (I didnt even get to the practice starts).
Anyway, I had fun in BSP... was the only subie there. Got 3rd out of 6 entrants. The miller's evo is fast! I was glad I got to 3rd on day 2, I knew the car had it in it. The stupid 2nd gear just isnt tall enough. I was on the limiter pretty good before the 180 turn around, then on my way out of that I was on it for wayyyy long. It was very annoying. The shifts to third turned out to be too much of a distraction to me for the return part of the course, so I decided to just keep it in 2nd (bleeding time either way :( )
Regardless, I had fun. I hope to make it out to some more national events. I have to say I think I would prefer a national tour just cause I am not so sure I wanna do so many hard launches... heh :)
I will have incar up shortly.

Hey Andrew, it was good to meet you (Matt in the black Legacy. A Legacy on street tires in SM wha?! ) Your videos look pretty good, there were a few key cost/benefit corners that tripped a lot of people up coming back (well me at least:o ) you looked to have gotten ahead of the turns pretty well.
I had the same problem with topping out second and tried shifting during the 1st and 2nd sessions, but today I stuck with bouncing the rev limiter. Definitely frustrating. I was supposed to get tuned earlier this month with a specific map raising my limiter for AutoX just to get me that extra flexibility, but my Accessport was borked upon tune.:( It's back so hopefully by the end of August I can get a bit of breathing room.
I feared the tree, but got to do some practice launches with mccanixx running shotgun which helped a bunch for getting the timing and staging procedure correct.
I got 3rd in SM behind the two driver Lieber EVO which was just sick. I wish I could pull the trigger on some real wheels/tires to go with my 9/10k springs in my garage but my car still pulls double duty to work on occasion. Someday.

Congrats to the Challenge winners! I was very happy to see JT and Kristin make it! This was not only Kristin's first Challenge, but her first ProSolo ever. Way to go Kristin! Congrats to solo-x for his Bonus Challenge win, getting him a free ProSolo entry!
Too bad for me Subaru doesn't still give money for "top Subaru in the Challenge". Oh well. Next time I should just try harder to not be a moron. For those wondering, I had a half-second lead going to the second side, but I was pissed at myself for not driving particularly well on the first side, and I went out to drive better on the second. Instead of going "oh, hey, I still have a half-second lead with a sloppy run, maybe I shouldn't push it on this next one!" So I blew out the braking zone in the back and very nearly went off course. Tried to throw it in reverse quickly to get back on course and stalled it instead. Finally got back moving again, but had lost more than 10 seconds. (Note to self: next time just hit the cone that would "keep me on course" and just GO. Maybe I would have lucked out and she would have hit a cone too.) Oh well, both the "pushing too hard when I didn't have to" and the dumb "put it in reverse" move are symptoms of being in my first actual Challenge (other than a bonus Challenge round last year). Hopefully I'll do another ProSolo sometime, somewhen, in some car, in some class and get to redeem myself. At least I managed to pick up some cash from Yokohama and Subaru for my class position and from SCCA for my 3rd qualifier position.
But the only truly important matter from the weekend is that hopefully Heather is okay.
No problem Jason and Billy! Giving the co-drive opportunity "forced" me to switch classes, which won me $425 and my first Challenge appearance. Yay, money. :) Course, this is now making me reconsider that whole "open vs ladies" question yet AGAIN. :(

I had a good time being competitive in the class instead of watching the "spec cars" run away. Still trying to get a feel for how this FSP car launches with the little wheels compared to the RS with big wheels but overall I'm happy to stay within .5sec of the winner. Who knows how much I left out there.....
The courses were fun and definately proved to be challenging to drive fast on that surface. Being narrow was of great help (none of our cars were narrow enough) with the way the gates flowed into each other. That turnaround was the first element that I could really feel the front diff working on throttle application....a wonderful thing. I feel the revlimiter thing....I started the weekend on a hacked ECU from our DSP car that has the limiter set to 8125rpm. My little EJ22's valvesprings can only handle about 73-7500rpm. Luckily none of my valves touched any pistons and a quick ECU change had me pulling cleanly up to 7k. I picked up .5 per side despite riding the limiter more than I'd like. :)
Congrats to all of our subie drivers! iirc, none of us broke anything! That's always nice! :D

A thank you to Phil and Jen for letting me co-drive their car. It was a great weekend. I was able to see a lot of people I have not in a long time. The only bad part was trying to get there and now, get home. I hope San Diego gets me home, because Cincinnati was not very helpful.

D'oh! Sorry to hear that you're still stuck in airport limbo Billy!! :(
You're most welcome on the co-drive. I'm just glad I could return the favor. :)
If we end up sticking with the car and category, maybe we can put some of our newfound Koni-tuning knowledge to use (nothing like thinking we'd set it to nearly full-hard, only to find out 2 seasons later it was nearly full-soft). D'oh!
Cliff Notes: Jen and Phil are morons :D

^^^^ Laughing at you. That's just like the time I didn't realize I could remove the fender off my trailer to get in and out... for 3 events... I crawled in and out through the hatch of the wagon.
How did the car feel after you figured out the adjustments? ;)

Don't know how it feels yet. IIRC, Phil double-checked for Billy after my Sunday runs what the shocks were set to. Then, Billy switched some of the settings for his runs, in an effort to make the car suck a little less. But since I had to use my class competition settings for the Challenge, we set them all back to the original settings after Billy's runs.
How did we manage that mistake, you ask? Well, the compression adjustment on the bottom of the DA Konis doesn't use the standard Koni tool. It has a little hole that you stick a pin through (we use one of the small allen wrenches) and turn to set. Well, somehow we'd gotten it in our head that the firm-->soft directions were the same as if you turned the Koni tool upside down and used the directions on the tool (i.e. the way you'd use it if it had an actual adjustment knob on the very bottom of the shock).
Billy thinks we're wrong. :) Since he has a set just like ours, I'm inclined to believe him. So for 2 full seasons, we have apparently been keeping them around 3 clicks from full soft, instead of 3 clicks from full hard. *sigh*
If Phil kicks the cold that I gave him and we end up going to Governor's Cup this weekend, I'm sure we'll be doing some serious testing of the "other extreme" of the compression settings and see what we think.

On my Koni DA's (8611), compression is clockwise for stiffer, and bump is anti-clockwise. Billy may have a point:D
| jcroy66 | 07-30-2007 09:25 PM |
Just went out to the car to get the Koni tool. Turned the Koni tool upside down and checked. According to our method, "clockwise is stiffer" for compression. So you're saying maybe we were actually doing it right?
| BlkWRXWag | 07-30-2007 09:34 PM |
Turning the Koni tool upside down will still tell you to turn anti-clockwise to go stiffer.
Compression needs to go clockwise (looking up from the ground) to go stiffer.
Compression needs to go clockwise (looking up from the ground) to go stiffer.
Oh okay. That's the part I missed. When you said "clockwise", I was imagining a clock lying on the ground I guess. :)
So yeah, we've apparently been doing it wrong. D'oh.
