How to paint your seats
http://photobucket.com/albums/b22/reconracer

Duplicolor makes a vinyl and fabric paint. Mask around area you want to avoid overspray, spray 2 light coats every 15 for a total of 6 light coats. Let try for an hour and a half
thats pretty interesting never heard of anyone paint therir seats...sweet
just when I thought I heard everything, there is this

looks good, but how long is that paint gonna last from sitting in it everyday?
reconracer 07-23-2005 08:03 PM

step by step instructions and other jiberish
paint hasnt rubbed off on my clothes yet and it held up when i sat in there with wet shorts from the swimming pool, the lifetime of the paint on there don't know, but im getting 4 sparco's put in there anyhow. The seats stiffened up a little bit, kinda have that brand new feel when you pull it off the dealership lot. No my covers arent painted yet, they will be done on the 1st when my the rest of my car gets fixed from the hit and run, btw the covers were free anyhow.

If you were serious bout step by step instructions here you go.

Find yourself some duplicolor vinyl & fabric paint, couple rolls of painters tape (get some thin tape and wide tape 2 of each should do) (wal-mart, napa, autozone, schucks auto carry it) you'll need about 6 cans.

Vaccuum your seats if any stains use some stain remover. Make things easier remove seats from car.

Tape off seats first with thin roll of painters tape for the part you are painting then use the wider roll to cover more area to prevent overspray.

Start the painting process use 2 light coats every 15 minutes for a total of six light coats. Let dry for 2 hours before you sit on them to be on the safe side.

This is how I painted my seats, take your time masking off the seats thats one of the most important steps
drain bramage 07-23-2005 11:37 PM

my first thought.... omg no he didnt.... but me being a wrx owner and not seeing sti seats everyday i had to take a double take. good job

Good thing you didnt overspray the rear seats...

tasq 07-24-2005 03:01 PM

no offence, but anyone who thinks that looks good needs to look again. The color is splotchy, TONS of over spray on the rear seats. You can tell they where rattle canned, and it looks cheap.

Sorry.

Hey peeps whats up, Im up here in Alaska and have seen recons seats first hand. I did not see any overspray and honestly I dont think it looks bad at all, he did say he was goin to do another coat of paint so I beleive that will get rid of the splochyness. One thing you have to understand is that being up here in no-mans land you kinda gotta get creative. We dont have a dyno/tuner and the suby dealer up here is worthless as far as anything. When we do order parts it costs an arm and a leg to ship, and lord help you if they send the wrong part. Someone had to be the first to paint their seats right?
128d 07-24-2005 08:26 PM

TygerStile 07-24-2005 11:37 PM

reconracer - I give you props for doing something that I havent seen before. The blue painted areas do look a little blotchy to me, but maybe it looks better in person. As long as you're happy with your car and how it looks. Glad to hear you're painting the rest of your parts...
robfuqua 07-24-2005 11:48 PM

 Reconracer is getting pissy........

Dude, you posted pics of your car, with a mod that you did. I'm all about painting things to customize them, but I think it looks splotchy....and there is overspray on the black.

Don't post pics of your mods and then get super pissy when you get flamed by a few people. More people liked it than didn't anyway.

well i call it being defensive, yea pics can be decieving especially judging one that is half finished, there is a pic in there of the final rear seat. if you wanna be a hater go ahead its all good, its normal for everyone to dislike constructive criticism and if you call me out and your wrong im gonna say something back at you, just keepin it real, chappelle show did have a sketch when keepin it real goes wrong but not in this case btw i try not to drop a bomb on someone, i try to point something out and make suggestions

 JEEEEEZUUUUSSSS..........Reconracer........please go to school to learn how to type in english!

Reading your posts, with all of your run-on sentences and their lack of capitalization, punctuation, or coherence is giving me a headache!

God, I need another Killian's.............
reconracer 07-25-2005 01:32 AM

you should understand being from Florida, good ol jacksonville education i got, learn from your mistakes if they give you a headache don't read them. Thats correct you were right here to see overspray on the seats, is it on the seat after it was finished no, was it there before no.

This forum is for how to paint your seats, not how to criticize the person who painted there seats, but hey its entertainment, keep the comments coming.

To the chucklehead who said Alaska is dark half the year, which is somewhat correct if you live in northern Alaska, another tough guy who thinks he knows everything from watching national geographic
V6TurboTA 07-25-2005 01:58 AM

How did you get the overspray off the seats?

btw my car is modded... The entire interior is sound deadened to the max

and the hockey puck, does that provide downforce or is it for show
Chi_San 07-25-2005 02:45 AM

TTIB... Ya...

Dangit. Someone, please don't post a 'how to paint your dash' thread, because I'm sick of a grey interior with a black dash and black steering wheel.

Oh now, I live in Oregon, it's more boring than Alaska, I'm about to go get some grey vynal paint and do it myself! O___O
reconracer 07-25-2005 02:52 AM

Do it paint it, oregon being more boring than Alaska, ha i doubt it, being that closest city is 360 miles and plane ticket will say Florida is usually about 1500 round trip 900 if you buy monthssss in advance.
Chi_San 07-25-2005 02:58 AM
Do it paint it, oregon being more boring than Alaska, ha i doubt it, being that closest city is 360 miles and plane ticket will say Florida is usually about 1500 round trip 900 if you buy monthssss in advance.
Um... Since I live close to city limits, means I can't partake in most activities since they are illegal... Blowing stuff up, for example, is a PITA, because of nosey neighbors and etc. Since there is less to do IN the city than OUT of it, makes the city more pointless and irritating. ;) Being remote doesn't make it more boring, believe me.

Blah, I don't hve the cash for paint right now (yes, pathetic).
reconracer 07-25-2005 03:19 AM

There some up and downs living in Fairbanks, s/h and well cost of anything is rediculous here, 8 bux for a value meal at BK, s/h 75 bux for turbo shipped.
Nice open roads to drive on with no state troopers around is a plus
grannyshifter 07-25-2005 03:27 AM

not bad. i don't have the balls to do something like that to my car.
128d 07-25-2005 09:15 AM

What the hell is the hockey puck mod?
MomoWRX 07-25-2005 12:18 PM

ditto, hope it dosen't come off on your clothing when it rains...
V6TurboTA 07-25-2005 01:00 PM

 The hockey puck mod holds my lightweight battery down. It also insulates too!

I basicly needed something to fill the gap under the stock battery bracket when i installed the smaller battery. I looked around and the hockey puck was the first thing that came to mind. It worked mint and is still there today :D

~v6
reconracer 07-25-2005 09:57 PM

metoo 07-26-2005 07:27 PM
i got the overspray off by taking off all the masking tape. the whole seat was taped off except the seat cushion
I'm not here to bust your chops, but THIS PICTURE clearly shows lots of overspay AFTER the tape was removed. It is very clear where the masking tape was, and obvious that you did not mask the entire seat, but instead, just a couple inches from the area that is now blue.

There's blue spray on the right bolster.
There's blue spray at the rear of the head rest.
There's blue spray on the access hatch/arm rest.

I'm not flaming you for painting your seats. I'm just pointing out that you were not careful to protect the rest of the seat from the paint.

To everyone else:
I thought STi seats would be a maintence nightmare (which turned out not to be the case) and wanted to trade for 2004 WRX seats, but when I saw that mesh, I quickly changed my mind. I would have dirt and crumbs all in that stuff. That mesh really makes painting those seats tough. The mesh acts as a mask to the fabric beneath. Personally, I wouldn't have attempted this stunt. I don't really review it as taking balls as much as the lack of fore thought. Not to offend, but there was very little "what ifs" taken into account.
