P1 Front Lip Spoiler part 1

Simon Lines 02-28-2001 06:47 AM

P1 Front Lip Spoiler

Hi All
Sorry, but I got fed-up with wading through the original 9 page post.
As you can all imagine i have had numerous requests for the GENUINE P1 front lip and up till now I have not been able to help. However, I believe that in a few days we will have permission to offer this part in the US. I have a target price of £200 for a raw un-painted part and I will hopefully also be offering the P1 front lights in Halogen and Gas Discharge.
Please note, Prodrive takes a VERY dim view of copies / replica's
Finally, the GENUINE P1 front lip has the benefit of actually affecting your aero package, giving negative lift at 100mph from the venturi set in the underside of the lip and venting into the front wheel well.
Cheers for now
Simon
fellfrosch7 02-28-2001 06:55 AM

There you have it people! Straight from the horse's mouth... Now everyone will jump on the P1 bandwagon. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] I'm going with a Version 6 lip.
63Alpine 02-28-2001 06:59 AM

This is great news Simon. I realize that copies of your products make Prodrive very unhappy. It should also show you the potential of bringing more of your products to market in the US. I personally would buy genuine Prodrive parts over almost any other part out there. I just haven't had the opportunity.

By the way, I am looking at the Prodrive WRC seat that was mentioned in Sport Compact Car. Do you have any details about it? Is it adjustable in any way? Does it come with all the needed bits to install it?

Regards,
Kurt
goose 02-28-2001 08:14 AM

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE also bring the prodrive style ver 5. foglight covers along with the lip....
STiShawn 02-28-2001 08:42 AM

Thank you Simon.
Isn't 200lbs like $400? Simon, I think its great Prodrive has realised they should stop neglecting us in the USA, we are a huge potential market. Im VERY interested in getting the P1 lip and spot lights/covers etc. Please keep us informed as you learn more. Thanks again, my check book and I await your reply.

Hi Guys
The lamp covers are no problem, but you should be aware that the only type I have are with the 90mm hole for the P1 driving light.
Cheers
Simon
BTW - £200 is $288.72

Simon

Will you be offering the lip spoiler to UK customers at that price too ?

J.
Die Civic 02-28-2001 10:14 AM

what about the rear wing? I'd rather have that
chrisj 02-28-2001 10:15 AM

So are you going to offer the lights as well. I would think that it would be better to package all the parts necessary to convert you RS nose to a P1 into one kit. If the lip, covers, and spoiler are available separately, every kid in America will have a half pieced together P1 look a like. If we are going to style our cars after the famed P1, we should give it the respect to do the complete conversion and not pillage certain parts that fit our budget.

sounds good simon. I think you will make a good profit, and the price sounds reasonable for a part that should be a factory fit.
your "dim view" on the replica made me wonder about something not related to this thread so i wont say it
Tarmac Terror 02-28-2001 10:54 AM

Oh man this is so sweet. I can't believe it. We finally have a official word on this lip and its for the real thing.

See omaha if we just keep pushing and pushing we will finally get it.

Maybe we should push for the P1 car now.....[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

Nate
STiShawn 02-28-2001 11:10 AM

Simon, put me down for 1 P1 lip and fog cover set, and do you have lamps for them? For $288 I'm all over it like a bad suit.
As for "respecting" the P1, imitation is the highest form of respect.
You can have a vertible P1 here, now that have the WRX, drop an Ej20 into your car, tweak it to 280 and you have one, bolt on body parts, wheels and the appropriate color.
I dont want a P1 knock off, I want a functional, stylish front lip that will accentuate the looks of My RS. No where on my car will you EVER see P1 badging.
Cant wait to see this happen.
Simon, we/I cant thank you enough for this.

Thank you!
Shawn
STiShawn 02-28-2001 11:22 AM

Omahasubaru just brought up a good point, how much will shipping be? Or will it be reasonable with an adequate number of lip spoilers ordered to fill a crate?
Damon 02-28-2001 01:31 PM

i want one as well. whenever you get all this finalized, my check book will be a'waitin just like Shawn's. i know he was one of the first to post on the original post, and i wasnt too far behind him. so no one say "were jumping on the bandwagon."
Damon 02-28-2001 01:37 PM

ps- im interested in the Prodrive wing as well, if you can get that. any idea on the pricing on that?
bratmantlz 02-28-2001 01:43 PM

what would the rb5 prodrive wing cost eh? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
STiShawn 02-28-2001 02:14 PM

No offense guys, but Simon is already going out on a limb to get us the lips....lets not take him for granted. We can already get the RB5 wing through a few vendors, I doubt Simon could beat the prices.
He is providing us with a part previously NOT available here in the states. Please respect that. Im not getting on anybodys case,so dont even start a flame war here, (PM me if you feel it nesecary) I'm just sayin lets respect what he's doing, and maybe if we ask real nice and this goes well we can get more Prodrive unobtanium in the future.
Imprezer 02-28-2001 02:16 PM

Awesome. Great news, Simon.
wop 02-28-2001 02:20 PM

Simon Lines-

what is different about P1 headlamps? They look the same as an RS to me. I am missing something? By "gas discharge" do you mean H.I.D.? If so... is it a new headlamp assembly designed for H.I.D. or a H.I.D. retro fit?

thanks,

-wop

wop 02-28-2001 02:25 PM

oh yeah...

STiShawn-

£200.00 = $289.035 USD

Tarmac Terror 02-28-2001 02:27 PM

Good point Shawn. What about shipping, Simon??

And the H.I.D. stands for High Intensity Discharge or gas discharge. But that is for the fog lights not the headlights.

Does shawn, omaha, and I get a discount for keeping the hope alive....[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

J/K.. I am happy to just be able to get it.

Tarmac Terror-

I am aware of what H.I.D. is (I have the retro fit on my RS [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img] ) I was unaware that Simon was talking about the fogs. I have re-read it and now it makes sense. thanks for pulling my head out of my ass [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] .

Simon Lines-

I am interested in the H.I.D. fogs, please keep us posted.

AAHHH,

nothing like a "functional" aero piece for the money.

I would gladly pay $$$ for something that is functional over looks.

After all, we have to keep up with the Evo's(everything on that car IS functional).
subywan-kenobi 02-28-2001 10:46 PM

I'm definitely in on this one, and I also have some good news about this piece for those that are interested and it involves carbon fiber!!!!!! I don't want to go into details though until I know this piece is available to us first!! Can't wait!!

Whats the word today P1eople.
omahasubaru 03-01-2001 07:36 AM

Hello all.

I've been watching this thread for a day or so just to see what happens before I replied.

Obviously I'm exstatic to hear about the P1 lip (genuine) being avalible to the US market! Thanks you Simon, it was hard to not reply as when I first read this thread, there were 0 replies at the time, but I did wait to just see which direction this would go.

First off I'd like to say thanks to Simon at Prodrive, YOU DA MAN!

Second, let's keep this thread on track and discuss only the subject at hand as Simon stated in his first message, "...got fed-up with wading through the original 9 page post...". No spoiler chatter or whoa! what's up today (sorry STiShawn, just my opinion). It is fun to keep this thread going, but might make Simon lose interest. If he is not coming to the club for a week and we all chatter up a storm and it says 8 pages, he may just turn around and leave and forget about selling them.

Third, I would like to know what it would cost to get a genuine lip pre painted as I share the P1's color of the 74f paint code.

Please let us know what you find out Simon and I'd be willing to get all of them shipped to me and then ship them all out to everyone else, although I'm not on any of the coasts so it might cost more $$$.

Yes the fog covers would be nice, but only if you can offer the fog lights too. (I'd miss my big fogs for atleast 3 minutes).

I'm glad to have been one of the few and proud who have pushed and pushed to get this lip for our US subaru market, just wish we could get an actual P1 that would drive leagally on the roads here.

That's enought chatter from me for a while.

Keep it clean, keep it short, and don't bother to let us all know Your in or down for this deal until the specifics have been handled.

Thanks to everyone who is involved with making this happen now and in the future,

Cheers and Thanks,

Jon

Yesss, I'm licking my lips for these lips.

goose 03-01-2001 04:39 PM

Hold on a sec here, is this process really so far along already that we can actually make orders on these parts???
Simon Lines 03-02-2001 05:16 AM

Hi All

Really good to see how pleased you all are and to read all the positive comments.

So far I have a provisional pricing on the basic un-painted part, so I made the original post with the circa £200 price (this is plus delivery, shipping, tax, etc, etc). Following that I have been waiting for information on delivery times and minimum quantities etc, I can tell you that I would be more than happy to offer the 90mm spot lights in "normal" halogen as well as HID (Gas Discharge) along with the special cover. However, I cannot get the STD STi blanking plate without the 90mm hole though.

With regards to the RB5 rear spoiler or the WRC look rear spoilers, these are both prodrive parts and available through SPD (and others) I will not be offering this as a special part. The P1 front lip will at first only be available from me, this is because of the special conditions I have to conform to in order to be able to sell this part in the first place.

The RB5 / WRC look rear spoiler would make a for a good overall aero package with the P1 front spoiler. The P1 rear spoiler will NOT become available.

My initial thoughts are to offer the P1 Lip (with towing eye cover, fitting kit and instructions). And then as a separate item offer the 90mm driving light (two flavours – Halogen and HID) with the special blanking plate with the 90mm cut out.

Talked with STi Shawn on the phone and he wants one for sure as do I! (big suprise).

Please advise on payment information. I've got my CC in hand or willing to send MO or PayPal International.

Thanks - Jon

I have a question...

What fog lamps are the P1's using currently? Hella? What model? Can we get them in the US?
Delicious Tuning 03-02-2001 03:33 PM

Well, what if I just happened to come across a set of covers....

I was just wondering what lights I could use. Any ideas?
DrunkenMonkey 03-03-2001 12:20 AM

I guess I will try and keep this short since it seems some peeps in here think they can tell others when/what they can post about..and I wouldnt wanna make anyone "pissy"..I just wanted to say im still interested in this lip and i wanted to ask about the lights...are the fogs the same size as the standard 2.5RS fogs just with a cover over it that blocks all but the small hole? or is the cover a mounting bracket also for a new smaller fog the size of the hole?

thanks for your time,
DM

garface 03-05-2001 07:49 PM

The lip in the box looks like it has some brake ducts. Am I right? I didn't think there would be anything in that area of the lip, it looks like it might make the little holes push air towards the brakes, or is that just for aerodynamic purposes?
Damon 03-06-2001 09:34 AM

garface,

i think the "ducts" you refer to are for aero purposes. the lip not only looks good, but is quite functional in providing some more downforce on the front of the car under high speed.

ps-whats the status of things?
STiShawn 03-07-2001 07:56 AM

The ducts are to diffuse the air at the front of the car and add significant downforce.
SCOOBYSHAG 03-07-2001 10:01 AM

I am definitely in for the P1 front spoiler. Maybe the fogs and covers depending on the price...

For the people that don't realize, this is the second post that Simon himself had to start because he didn't want to wade through the past 9 page post.

Aspen 03-27-2001 08:36 AM

I suspect that you will be hearing more about the P1 lip spoilers from all the dealers that are starting to pop up in the USA like AutoCareSubaru and SPD among others. You will most likely be ordering from them since they are now Prodrive dealers.
