performance mod advice needed part 1

speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 09:45 PM

performance mod advice needed
what is the best performance mod for a 04 sti?
Trunk_Monkey 11-09-2005 09:47 PM

Depends what you want to go for. Horsepower/torque numbers, 0-60 time, responsiveness, torque, lowering spool rpm, handling, feel?
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 09:53 PM

i mainly am tring to make it better cornering as it is a little skitchy for me and better brakes would probably help, huh?
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 09:54 PM

what would u recommend. i heard that it's belt isn't too good either
Silver571 11-09-2005 09:56 PM

2 threads?!?!?!?!

And both in the wrong section!?

:furious:  B4RN!!!

gO read your first thread.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 09:58 PM

what silver571?????
Silver571 11-09-2005 09:59 PM

You made two threads about the same thing... and they're both in the wrong section.

First thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=880590
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:01 PM

And *** do you mean its "belt" isn't good? What belt are you referring to?
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:07 PM

sorry my bad this is my first night in a forum... the belt in my 04 sti it's seems like there is room for improvement thats all.
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:08 PM

What belt? theres many...
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:10 PM

do you have any advice on drastic improvement performance mods on corning? It could be better and i'm wondering if bigger brakes would help.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:11 PM

the timing belt
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:12 PM

Timing belt... needs improvment?

Brakes don't help you corner. The use of them, well thats another story. Your stock breaks are fine if you do indeed have an STi. Brakes lines and pads might be something to get but not right now.

Look at some strut bars and a coilover suspension or some nice springs like prodrives, as these will also help cornering.
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:16 PM

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=880590

go there now and read, seriously. now...
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:16 PM

ohh well i am uncertain of that belts name, so forget about it. Do u have any advice on some hp improvers
Trunk_Monkey 11-09-2005 10:16 PM

Tires are always a good place to start. The stock sti brakes are great. Think swaybars, anti lift kit (alk), coilovers. How much money do you have to work with and do you want high speed handling or tight lower speed corners - what do you plan on using the car for.

If you want the most effective performance mod look into fixing the nut behind the wheel. http://kalecoauto.com/tools.htm
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:18 PM

thanx im reading it at the moment
Trunk_Monkey 11-09-2005 10:20 PM

Its a joke if you didnt catch that, aka the best mod is a good driving school.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:20 PM

i speed handling, drifting and racing...
Trunk_Monkey 11-09-2005 10:21 PM

Well by saying drifting you are sort of contradicting yourself, drifting is all about losing traction. Go to an autox and see for yourself that the car is capable of far more than most drivers, once you realize that look into a driving school or joining a weekend racing (autox) club.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:21 PM

yea i am sloowwwwww, not stupid jk
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:23 PM

well then what should i be looking for since ur the "expert"
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:23 PM

May I ask a question here... how old are you ?
Trunk_Monkey 11-09-2005 10:24 PM

Im no expert by any means, just find a safe place to learn the car and see what you think it is lacking, you will see that your times will improve more with practice than with any mod.
C43 11-09-2005 10:26 PM

Forget everything and just go for a larger turbo. SZ49 or 20g. Get 850cc injectors, Big maf housing, UP and a catted DP, 3-in or bigger CBE, 3in turbo intake pipe(Perrin), 255 FP and a great Ecutektune. You'll friggin love it. Then get some STi pinks with group-n tophats. You will need gauges but just get a AVCR and you'll have all the monitoring you'll need. If not you will buy a bunch of unnecessary parts in a quest for performance. If you want to be pushed back into your seat. If you never want to get out of your car. If you can't wait until temps drop. Then all you need is what I described. Please check with a good search, because I am sure I forgot a little bit of stuff. I bought alot parts but the turbo friggin does it. Remember "Rome was not built in a day" good luck and enjoy. The search button is your bestfriend use it, you will find all you desire.

Judging by his questions... and responses, I doubt he is any condition to have a car with this much power.
rites 11-09-2005 10:28 PM

IBOTgetsaholdofthis.

Seriously if you want to know what you need the most... It's a better driver, so start watching videos, reading, practiceing.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:29 PM

im 17 why!!!
MBasile 11-09-2005 10:29 PM

best mod....well, its not really a mod, but learn about the car and do some research rather than just posting a question. It'll give you knowledge, and keep you from getting flamed (if you dont know what that is, you shall soon find out)

EDIT: HOLY ****! youre 17 and have an STi? uugh, the dealership here claims they wont even sell an STi to a teen...and for good reason
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:30 PM
im 17 why!!!
Its very apparent.

I keep telling him to go read... don't think he has done it.
rites 11-09-2005 10:30 PM
im 17 why!!!
Because your a moron, if your 17 you need to be asking how to slow the car down not make it faster.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:31 PM

yea i probably sound like a dumb but im just starting out so please don't talk about me like im 5!!!
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:31 PM

since you won't go to the other thread and read, ill bring the other thread to you.
Ok, I'm really bored and don't want to write my paper... so I did something for you.

Quit posting and start reading.

1. Start here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=34
- More specifically: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170789

Notice you will find posts such as: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=879085 In which the same question you're asking has been asked. But atleast they have given goals and posted it in the correct section.

After you finish up all the threads in the FAQ you're ready for step 2, of Silver's 6 Step Program to Success and Anti-newb Posts.

2. Maintaining your Subaru. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=65

You car is nothing if isn't maintained well. You also need to know how to work on things yourself and how to diagnose problems.

3. Learning to drive your Subaru well.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Power is worthless with out being able to drive it and control it well.

4. Stop and Gain control. Power is still worthless if you don't have the proper setup. You need to be able to stop, especially if you have a lot of power.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32 also go here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=88 to learn about tires and wheels to further help your control.

Now grasshoper, we are ready to start adding power. Since now hopefully you know about your car, and how to work on it. And are able to control it.

5. Finding your power plant and researching: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=91

In your case its the 2.5L factory turbo'd. Hopefully you knew that.

Reading here you will find tested parts and what people are using on your motor. This will give you knowledge in what to do and not to do. For more on what helps a lot, go here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=79 where others prove what they have been making with certain setups.

6. With power comes tuning.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=80

Learn about tuning the car. What works and what doesn't. Tuning is essential... that is unless you want your car to blow up.

Now you should be a master. If not then you didn't read.

All info needed is there it just has to be dug up.

I leave you with, be safe and have fun.

speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:39 PM

Silver571 11-09-2005 10:48 PM

How old do you think I am?
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:51 PM

Silver571 11-09-2005 10:52 PM
19-20-21
wrong.
WR^2X 11-09-2005 10:53 PM

This is rediculous. Where do you people come from!?
A 9 year old could read the forum title, "Interior & Exterior Modification and Care," and the description, "How to make it Bling, keep it bling, body kits, seats and trims..." and realize that this post doesn't belong here.

And replacing the timing belt? The first thing you need to replace is your car.
C43 11-09-2005 10:53 PM

Forget my post. You just need to enjoy the car. If anything do the STi pinks. Dress it up. You car is already faster than most stock cars. With the mod list I wrote you will kill yourself. Dude just enjoy the car.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:54 PM

anyways if u aren't willing to give me straight out advice instead of sending me on treasure hunts for answers i give up, just give me the most performace inhancing mods for speed then!!!
Silver571 11-09-2005 10:55 PM

HOLY ****! Did I not give you everything you need to know?! ****ING READ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WR^2X 11-09-2005 10:56 PM
anyways if u aren't willing to give me straight out advice instead of sending me on treasure hunts for answers i give up, just give me the most performace inhancing mods for speed then!!!
It's not a treasure hunt. All the answers are in the forums, you just need to know how to SEARCH! Why don't you ask for mod advice from the people who suggested that you replace your timing belt? They obviously know their ****.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:56 PM

thanx c43 for the good advice without the critisism like everyone else
C43 11-09-2005 10:57 PM

Stop! just start searching and forget about this thread. Trust me I know you will be ripped to shreds.
WR^2X 11-09-2005 10:58 PM
Stop! just start searching and forget about this thread. Trust me I know you will be ripped to shreds.
Exactly... I would have pointed him to a more performance-oriented part of the forums, but I think he'll piss off too many people.
speedspeedspeed 11-09-2005 10:59 PM
Stop! just start searching and forget about this thread. Trust me I know you will be ripped to shreds.
I would agree. First thread I posted (before I realized really what I was going to get myself into was "Short-ram Intakes VS Cold Air Intakes." Oh man, I got burned. Don't worry man. Just go to a new thread (forget about this one), and just remember to search next time. No big deal. Peace

just drive carefully and don't get yourself or anyone killed please. You are too young to be dead.

if you want more power get a turboback exhaust and engine management. +50hp
