Rally New Zealand - talk about it here!! part 1

WRXMaster 10-03-2002 05:29 PM

Rally Newzealand

Its live now on wrc.com!
Coati 10-03-2002 05:50 PM

I forgot it was tomorrow there already. Just clicked on the link and  it's on!

Burnsie's in front after the first leg.
Tommi and Petter are both still in the rally.:D

Paasonen came in 5th on the first leg in a Mitsubishi against a full WRC field. They've got to be ecstatic.
sumit 10-03-2002 06:04 PM

and Makinen is b a r e l y in front of him.
YoungWilliams 10-03-2002 06:25 PM

Damn, now I'm gonna have to avoid this forum all weekend!!! 2 Playoff games to go to, so I'm watching the whole rally on Sunday!

Go Petter! Go Tommi!!

Cheers,
Grant
driggity 10-03-2002 08:24 PM

Ugh, coverage schedule on Speed is the same as usual, so I guess we don't get to see what happened today until Friday night :(
Thug 10-04-2002 07:52 AM

Surprise, surprise. Another Peugeot 1-2-3 at the end of Leg 1. Who else is sick of this?

You'd rather they go back to last year's coverage of 3+ weeks after the rally?;)
jaybird 10-04-2002 10:52 AM

I still think Burns has a chance to steal the Championship. He has been right there all season and these are his favorite rounds coming up.
jaybird 10-04-2002 11:05 AM

Burns would need to win all three and Marcus would have to get less then 7 points in the next three.
Thug 10-04-2002 12:01 PM

Read: Not gonna happen to Mr. Consistency.
mordy_2v 10-04-2002 01:13 PM

Wow Burns must have really smoked the field on the stages he won. Petter won the last 2 of the day and he's sixth and 45 seconds behind Burns.
brainrally 10-04-2002 01:53 PM

How about that Jani Paasonen? Relatively inexperienced, jumping in with barely a week's notice, bringing the LANCER up to 4th. Only on the last two stages he lost time, dropping just behind Tommi and barely ahead of Petter.

The Mitsu team has to be feeling good, especially after setting fastest time on SS5.

What Petter won were just the Super Specials. Only 2 kilometers long so you can't make up a whole lot of time.
dwx 10-04-2002 05:41 PM

AMAZING! Petter and Tommi are both still in the rally! Oh well I guess there is still plenty of time for Tommi to crash and Petter to have mechanical problems.

but I hope not. :D
Sea Dragon Rex 10-04-2002 05:56 PM

I think they mentioned that Tommi was having some kind of intercooler problems yesterday.

Petter just passed ahead of Tommi on Stage 9 and both are ahead of Paasonen in the Evo VII! Woo, hoo!! Maybe they'll be able to catch the Peugeots, NOT! Hope Subie has something up it's sleeves for next year. I don't think they have a chance in the Manufacturer's Championship unless they get another good driver.

Maybe the bug-eyes are slowing them down!
mordy_2v 10-04-2002 07:01 PM

ah, the super specials, i should have known :o
Coati 10-04-2002 07:59 PM

Damn, look at those times!
Is anybody else out there sticking pins into little voodoo dolls of Pugs and Lancers? ;)
Coati 10-04-2002 08:06 PM

OMG! It worked: Paasonen's out!

Edit: sorry about that ... now for those Pugs:devil:

I'm pretty sure they said that they didn't want more than two drivers back when the Colin rumors were floating around.
Thug 10-04-2002 09:18 PM

They can have 6 drivers if they want but it wont do them any good when all 6 cars break.
wrxinfx 10-04-2002 09:52 PM

do the girls on WRC radio sound hot to you? They do to me. Sound a bit drunk too. Damn. And there's three of them. And all they do is talk about cars. Wow.
kotaro 10-05-2002 12:17 AM

Burns is out!

no serious injuries according to corrado provera in wrc radio

:(
Habu 10-05-2002 12:19 AM

Three words.........

PETTER! PETTER! PETTER!!!!!!!!!

Gotta fly!
Skippy
Lightning Jack 10-05-2002 12:22 AM

Go Peter!!!!!!!!!! woohoo
hopefully Tommi don't crash :D

Burns is not as good as when he was with Subaru
Thug 10-05-2002 12:27 AM

Tommi's already had brake and turbo problems. I wonder what could possibly fail on the car tomorrow.
Wheels 10-05-2002 05:26 AM

Solberg rocks and should be subarus number 1 driver. Tommi way over drives that car. Why cant he get used to letting the car do most of his work that he did in the EVO.
Patrick L 10-05-2002 12:09 PM

Now all we need are the top 2 Pugs to have problems.
Bonzo 10-05-2002 01:09 PM

sounds like speedtv threw in another n00b for an announcer:rolleyes: kinda funny listening to his name pronunciations:lol:

Tommi seems to be just not into it. Petter is having fun and going fast. Gooo Hollywood!
Rattler 10-05-2002 01:29 PM

Hurry over to WRC's website and watch the video Colin crashing. You can plainly hear him use that word that the Moderators would kick us off for a week if we were caught using!
WagonMonster 10-05-2002 01:46 PM

I just have one thing to say...

that is all...
Onederer 10-05-2002 02:04 PM

what are you trying to say Will? You think he's cute? is that it? :p

I just knew that posting a pic of Solberg wouls illicit a reply like this.
johnfelstead 10-05-2002 07:53 PM

Petter's engine just blew up, so he wont be smiling anymore! :(
Rattler 10-05-2002 09:01 PM

Peugeot/Marcus are champs again.

http://www.wrc.com/en_GB/News/NewsDetail/2002_R_I_Jordan.htm

At least Tommi was in third. :D
RallyDriver 10-05-2002 10:14 PM

My budy was eleventh (Tomasz Kuchar PL)
And at the same time first from the non-manufacuturer drivers

Thug 10-05-2002 11:51 PM

SWRT's slogan should be, "Almost as reliable as a Yugo!"
PURE EPI 10-06-2002 09:40 AM

Suspicions

Truly a cruel turn of luck for Solberg. He really deserved the podium here.
Though I can't help but wonder about Peugeot's dominance... something doesn't smell quite right.

i bet solberg said the same thing...
dwx 10-06-2002 11:29 PM

I don't know if anyone else saw the results but Possum Bourne was #1 in GrpN in an Impreza. I know David Higgins won GrpN last year at the network q and it was the first time in forever an Impreza had beat an EVO in GrpN.
Dussander 10-07-2002 11:46 AM

I bet this won't be every drivers favorite rally in more. :)
Subie Gal 10-07-2002 11:53 AM

first off... easy on Tommi....
it IS his first year in the subaru.. and i am sure that it's still not set up to his liking.. that Evo he drove was HIS... set up for HIM... the guy is a huuuuuuuge talent. do not over look him...

and Petter :(
broke my heart... poor guy drove the piss out of the rally
only to be let down again. major, major bummer.

and Burns
sorry dude... keep it out of the bank next time!!

I don't really know... it just seems like Tommi has lost his edge. Petter was driving phenomenally all rally, and to see him blow the motor practically made me cry.

I was cursing Tommi's podium because, frankly, he doesn't deserve it. But, at the end of the Speed coverage, he redeemed himself by saying something along the lines of "this isn't how I wanted a podium spot" and how bad he felt about Petter's failure. That was Petter's spot, and it was nice to see Tommi acknowledge that.

Kha0S 10-07-2002 01:17 PM

Oh yeah, and Colin? Listen to your co-driver.

I don't see how Colin magically turned a "two kay right don't cut" into a "fast flat three."

Nicky's got lots of experience in the passenger seat ... give him the benefit of the doubt, once in a while. :D

Rattler 10-07-2002 01:27 PM

I can't believe WRC.com hasn't bleeped out Colin in his crash video yet.

LOOKED to me like he did hear the note..
but clipped the bank on the pass side front..
which shoved him straight off the edge

it happens :D

poor Nicky.. i wouldnt ride w/that nutter!

driggity 10-07-2002 05:57 PM

I've said it before but I wonder if Tommi ever really got comfortable with the new co-driver. Combine that with a new car and it might be an explanation for his overall less than stellar performance this year. Hopefully some rally Petter will have a clean race and not have the car fail him. Poor guy.

But damn those Pugs are fast  They just seem to be leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else on just about every surface.

If you listen, shortly before entering the corner, Colin asks "three?" to Nicky, who corrects, emphatically "NO, TWO!" ... mere moments before he clipped the gate on the inside. Admittedly, the gate was hidden behind a strategically located shrubbery, but the initial call from Nicky reflected that. Perhaps a caution note was in order, but at the same time, Colin mistrusted his own brain enough to try and verify with Nicky, but it was too late.

Many/most drivers would have been more conservative on the corner if they thought they might have mis-heard the call, but I guess that's the difference between a WRC driver and a first-year ClubRally driver.

At the same time, those of us in the silly seat get a chill when a driver doesn't seem to be paying attention. :D

Dussander 10-08-2002 10:53 AM

Here is me and the wife doing one NRI on a road rally.
Her - "Left @ 0.8miles"
Me - "Left?"
Her - "Left"
Me - "How far?"
Her - "0.8 miles"
Me - ....
Me - "Left?"
Her - "Yes!"
Me - "0.8?"
...
I suck at remembering while driving. :)
